Got a broken piece of equipment? Leave it roadside with a “FREE” sign on it in Musties’s neighborhood. Go back 2 days later and “buy” it back for half of what a repair shop would’ve charged to fix it. You get your equipment fixed, Mustie gets content. Win, win!

Back when I was in construction we would have screw guns "walk" off jobs. I would wait about 5 days and go buy back our tools from the local pawnshops. They had to repair them before they could be sold so I would get back my screw guns repaired and good as new for about a third of the cost of a new one.

Living beside a recycling centre most of my life in the UK we got a LOT of free stuff after the place closed for the day. It's impossible now as it took them decades to finally install cameras which are monitored 24/7 by the council. When we were kids we got to play with hundreds of 'ride-on' powerwheels & peg perego cars and bikes, many of them premium 2 seater types which were thrown away because the batteries were so expensive to replace.. We simply took batteries from the battery pile and charged them at home in the shed which included fire alarm batteries and small car batteries and powered the vehicles off them. We played destruction derby with them, ran them on 24v until the motors popped and simply went up to the dump again and got more. Fun times as a kid and fond memories.

Mr Mustie, I want to say to you how important you have become to, I'm sure, so many of us. While I can only speak for myself, while I realize the difference between reality and imagination, you evoke real emotions for many of us. I truly feel that you are a friend I could visit with. My father operated a small engine clinic during the 7's near Amarillo. It was a part time job for him because the little town was too small to fully support him. He became a snapper dealer and when I would visit him, his shop was full of new mowers getting prepped, and older ones getting repaired. So when I watch your video's I can almost smell and feel the environment. I went away and got involved in engineering, so I didn't get to spend that much time "wrenching"...but I still miss it. Thank you for your energy, time and your dedication to us.

I had a 2-stroke Ryobi string trimmer. 2 seasons, the lines split. I bought the 6$ line replacement kit, spent 4hrs trying to coax those lines into the tank, video after video, special "forceps". I junked it, bought electric, 100ft of cord... 12yrs later...not a problem. Ah, to the engineer who designed the fuel system and spec'd the plastic for it...what can I say. I have a 22yr-old Tecumseh 4-stroke lawnmower, not one fuel issue or oil issue. Not one. Every cable is busted, wheels are bare, belts cracked. It still starts and works.

I had one of these homelite (Home Depot special) trimmers around 11 years ago when I did lawns on the side after high school. The bottom cap on mine was reverse threaded so I was sure something awful was going to happen to yours since you were breaking it loose counter-clockwise. Glad to see it's a runner, mine broke the filter weight off too and I never had the tools to dial in the carb so it made its way to the giveaway pile too after a few years of good service.

Great video sir. Been binge watching your videos. I learned when putting new line on a weed eater is to cut a piece of line, then stick each end in the holes. Then wind both sections at once while keeping an eye on the length, then cut string in half. And then put line in the holes of hub and snap in place. It took me a while to figure out how easy it makes it..

Thank you Mustie for keeping some of us sane during lockdown! Have you ever picked up something by the roadside, taken it home, found out that the fix was so simple that it didn't even deserve a video, and taken the fettled item back to where you got it, rang the doorbell, and said "Here ya go, fella, fixed it for ya!"?

Thank you Mustie1 for your great videos. They help me when I cannot sleep at night due to chronic pain. I am entertained by your commentary and learn a lot about 4 strokes, I was just a 2 stroke guy. My tips are B&S recoil starter, rope replacement, make a small notch in the pulley wheel outside top edge for the cord to fit in, makes it easy to turn (preloaded rope wheel) for tensioning the spring. Bend the metal tab out at the exit hole to make it easier to thread the cord out, I bend the tab back. I only wind on one side/hole of trimmer cord. One works fine for me as the trimmer head turns so fast, makes me wonder why we are conditioned by makers to use two? I realise you do both sides for resale. PS please give Lilly a treat for me, don't see her much anymore in your shop and miss her.

I thought I would find this one boring, not really interested in weed wackers. But I'm glad to know of the 2 stroke carb adjustment tools. I never heard or seen anything about them. I'm sure you could go 4 or 5 years without yard sales or free piles, and still have plenty to work on! LOL! There's an antique boat motor for one, the Lambo kit car, and I forget what all else. I've seen probably 95% of your videos, and it's interesting to see the evolution of how you do things. Those Turnin Rust boys have much better quality video equipment, but they only describe vaguely how the fix things. You give us all the details and broad background. Definitely like your approach much better. Keep up the great work!!

I have a homelite trimmer I've used for 26 summers straight. Still has the original spark plug. It ran for months with all four head bolts loose, tightened them up and she still goes. I can't believe what a little over $150 bought. BTW, the nut for the bottom of the spool is a stock item at the big orange box store. Be sure to get the black one if you need one, the red one is left hand thread. That was the only item I've replace other than string line and fuel.

I remember when I used to go into the city on the Long Island railroad that the guys who worked in the train station who were responsible for keeping the platforms clear of snow used to have a version of this that instead of a weed wacker it had these finned horizontal rollers that were sweepers and they were about 2.5 feet wide and they would walk side by side the length of the platform and use the sweepers to push the snow off as it accumulated and they’d go back and forth from platform to platform and they actually worked at keeping the snow from building up. You should see about converting this to a sweeper, and I think you’ll get a lot more use out of it

You have to change the fuel lines regularly on those trimmers just like you have to do with the primer bulb as they crack and won't prime or run without those problems being fixed. It is good that you was able to fix the problems with the trimmer yourself and now you have one to use around your home.

I was also wondering if there was a gas resistant sealant.....but it looks like I’ll have to try to change the gas lines.
