I am a life long fan of all things powered, lets turn some wrenches on rusty junk and see if we can bring them back to life on the cheap.

Hi Darren, I lived on the Mornington Peninsula, south of Melbourne, victoria, Australia on a 3000m2 bush block for 40 years and would have loved one of these log splitter to have helped me to create a garden and fed my fire place instead, I used a manual log splitter which upon reflection kept me hale and fit as a Malley Bull (a concept that does not quite translate) , but you might get the idea. Cheers and thanks.

The average Hollywood movie these days goes for about 90 minutes and are a guaranteed yawn. I reckon there are a multitude who would prefer a 90 minutes with Mustie, for the plot, the method and the 'running ' product at the end and total satisfaction guaranteed.

Mustie! Big fan of your work. Love it! BTW, Have you seen RRC Restoration? Another KZreadr I watch. He just did a 250 almost exactly like yours. Beautiful 100% restoration. The guy does every single detail on every restoration. Definitely worth watching. Keep the videos coming. You make my weekend every Sunday.

also the reason for the pins in the piston is to keep the ends of the rings from getting caught in the ports

British cars of that period often had no synchro on first gear. They were so low geared that unless you had stopped completely it would pull away in second gear.

I have a 5.5 HP Briggs & Stratton on a walk behind trimmer. It wouldn't start.. As I had seen you do it many times, I put in a new spark plug, squirted some gasoline in the plug hole and it started on the first pull. thanks for helping an old man!

First Car 1964 VW - bought at VW Dealer and I remember they had a PIT in the floor of their shop where they drove the VW cars over the pit and removed the engines in just a few minutes - with the engines out on a pallet they could get to anywhere they needed to fix anything ?? I also remember a friend of mine taking his engine out the SAME-way as Muskie does in this video (wires, 4 bolts, and shaking it back then raising the back of the car to clear the engine ) ! :-)

FIRST CAR (1966) was a 1964 VW Bug for $1,400 (my dad put $200 Down and I paid $50/month for two years to pay it off - I also paid $50/month for teenager/male insurance - I made $1/hr at my part-time job working 35/hr/week (made a $100/month - just enough to pay my car & insurance then I was broke ) ! My dad gave me $10/week to buy gas ( was $0.15/gal) AND go out on dates to the drive-in movies with my girl friend with the $8 that was left - we get-in to the movie and I could afford drinks, candy, and maybe even a pizza ?? :-)

Hi, that top ring is called a Dykes ring, it is deliberately shaped that way, so that when the fuel ignites at the top of the stroke, the force of the explosion, forces itself down around the edge of the piston and onto the ring, due to its shape the gases force the ring outwards against the cylinder wall, creating a better seal, hence the reason for the low compression feel, if you Google Dykes ring, Wikipedia explains this better.

Didn't Yamaha switch to 12 volt by 1973 or 4? From what I recall regarding the toolkit, was on the left side below the muffler in that oblong area . The chrome rims look great, fix it up nice / sell it before the market tanks (its coming, bidens economy crash), you might be able to get $5 to 7k...?

Dunno if you still have this or not, but I did notice that when you did the first wheels down drive train test, the right rear axle was spinning inside the hub. I bet if you rigged up some way to clamp the wheel to the axle you'd have this running in 2WD!

I know this is a 3 year old video, but if somebody watches after this comment hopefully this helps with the spark issue. My father in law had a mower with no spark, the coil was rusty at the 2 points that you gap the coil and flywheel. I wire wheeled the points and got spark from that coil after it was rust free. I also use a business card to set my gap, hope this helps somebody save money and get their equipment running again
