Observe things as they are and don't pay attention to other people. There are some people just like mad dogs barking at everything that moves, even barking when the wind stirs among the grass and leaves. Huang Po

In essence, Buddha means wisdom. In application or function, it means enlightenment. The function of wisdom is enlightenment. There are three classifications of enlightenment. First is "self-enlightenment" a state in which one possess no erroneous thoughts, views, speech or behavior. Arhats and Pratyekabuddhas in Theravada Buddhism have attained this level of self-enlightenment, but have not yet generated the Bodhi mind to help others achieve enlightenment. Second is "enlightenment of self and others" a state in which one helps others to reach enlightenment after achieving his or her own. Bodhisattvas in Mahayana Buddhism have attained this level. Third is "Perfect Complete Enlightenment", a state in which one reaches perfection in both enlightenment for self as well as helping others to reach enlightenment. This is the state of Buddhas. *the more we rid ourselves of these wandering thoughts and attachments, the more we will experience freedom from suffering, and the more wisdom and enlightenment we will uncover. Once we completely free ourselves from discriminating and wandering thoughts and attachments, our fixations to certain ideas or objects, we will regain our lost Buddhahood; our original perfect enlightened state, our self-nature Buddha.

The Buddha explain that the existence of suffering is easy to prove, just look in yourself and around you, people suffer in different form, this is obvious. Existence of suffering is not difficult to prove. But you don't need to prove the existence of an independant Self (:ego) to prove the existence of suffering. Existence of a Self is not necessary to prove the existence of suffering. So there is no need to answer to the question : "Who suffer ?". The Buddha answer to the question of the Suffering, only this question, no more. So you don't need to have a "Self" to have enlightment, release of suffering. Because there is no independant Self, you can say that every time a person became a buddha, all the reality experiment enlightment. In relative term there is a person who became a buddha, but in absolute term, there is no individual becaming a buddha. This is just a convergence of good circumstances on the scale of all the universe permitting the emergence of an enlighted being. Like a wave on the surface off an ocean without limits. All the ocean contribute to the advent of a buddha. A sort of mathematical statistical situation on the scale of all the universe. Probability every second on the ocean of "possible events" on the scale of this universe, this reality. A sort of "big lottery". Every second a non measurable number of dices are rolled and necessarely there is a moment when you obtain all "six" face in the same time of roll. "Bingo". A buddha appears. Live a moment, and die. And after, the roll of dices repeat second after second... I sea things like this. This reality can "give birth" sometimes to a buddha, mathématical probability. Very rare but not impossible. The universe "give birth" to a buddha, so there is no being with a Self or Ego who realize by himself buddhahood. All the universe realize buddhahood. The is my perception for the moment.

As I see it, there is a lot of confusion about "No Self" in Buddhism. A lot of Buddhists, and people new to Buddhism, think that this means that the individual has no unique fundamental spirit. I disagree with this, and see this as a Hindu belief. I think that "No Self" in Buddhism is better interpreted as "No Self-Consciousness". This means full concentration, to be fully in the here-and-now, and action fully from the heart. To be clear, "No-Self Consciousness" implies "None Attachments".

Yes in Mahayana Buddhism it also uses the world Self Nature to equate with Buddha nature, but this Self Nature means non-self, no egoistic personal self, which is an illusion. Amituofo 🙏

Hello Jiawen, Where are you located? I have studied Buddhism and I don't find it very satisfactory to the most basic human questions. I find that as humans we all have a free will to chose right and wrong. We have all chosen to do wrong, yet you talk about going to the Pure Land. No human makes it to the Pure Land (as you call it), because if you entered such a place, it would no longer be pure. I never understand from your teaching "Just How Good Do You Have To Be to enter the Pure Land?" the concept seems very nebulous to me. I only find hope in the teachings of Jesus from the Bible. The Bible is a "historical book" that looks at the human condition as it really is. We have a real Jesus, that gets hung on a Roman cross to pay the price for the sins of the world. We have the Old Testament scriptures that prophecy of a Jewish Messiah coming to redeem humanity. Jesus fulfills more than 300 of those prophecies, take Isaiah 53 and Isaiah 9:6 for example. Thank You! Reply

There exists a Pure Land, yet it isn't this one.
