Devlin, FYI Blackboard just announced its "Design Assistant" - an AI tool within the Ultra version of their LMS. A few clicks and the foundation of a course is built within minutes. It will be out in September 2023.

Thank you Devlin. I am tryin to complete my Master's Portfolio and I am trying to jump on this bandwagon and you always help keep things real. I will start looking in about 4 months, right now I am just doing Grad Assistantship at the Center of Innovation Teaching and Research and want to provide some insight on this topic if I don't stay on. 🙂

I partially agree with the video above, as a very creative professional will still be valuable depending on the requirements of the stakeholders.

I was worried that sites which can make a course from scratch from a simple prompt will get better and take our jobs, but I think before that happens we'll need to make courses that contain LLM feedback, AI-generated video, VR courses etc. and by the time the AI can just make a course including all of that quicker than a human the world will be a very different place and things will either be great or terrible and we won't be worried about our instructional design job :)

Yes, I think course-from-single-prompt probably will not be very realistic, but there is definitely a time coming where it can generate courses from content + some more in-depth prompting! That will be a skill in and of itself...and yes, as we improve our quality of work, I am sure it will be harder for the AI to match it. That being said, I think that the pace of AI improvements may get beyond what humans are capable....but we will have to wait and see, lol.

I highly recommend investing in AI companies, especially after layoffs in tech companies. So at least your money is still growing while you figure out your next move. After quitting my job have been making way more trading options....LOL. Using AI of course to make decisions. But seriously there has never been a time people are so interested in learning so definitely being your own boss/course creator would be the way to go.

Been working with Vyond and their AI that produces instant videos. Scary and exciting times!

Hi Devlin: I just recently watched some of your videos on ID's (Instructional Designer) not sure if its the same thing as being a e-Learning Developer (Creating online courses) which I have some interests in this area of work, but after watching this video I am bit worry if AI or Generative AI will eventually replace ID's or E-Learning Developer, I was thinking of doing a Certificate Online Course or Program at St.Lawrence College here in ON Canada? which will give a foundation in E-Learning and Instructional Designer?? Plus Do I need a Certificate or a Diploma in order to become a ID or E-Learning Developer? Its scary in some ways which jobs will be safe from AI? Plus, Is there a video that you have done (in the past) regarding how the ID's work was done before this AI or Generative AI like the old processes was done, as you may notice that I am not a Instructional Designer, I may have taken some online course or Udemy Courses about E-learning or Instructional Designer but that's about it. I would like your input on this Dan.

That would be ridiculous and a bad idea!

Would you stop alluding to the idea that AI is just going to get better and better? We need to believe we have a future in this career path! And basically, I think AI is overhyped. It’s a big mistake for us to be using it. We should boycott it. !!
