Will a HOMEMADE SPOON Catch Fish?? (Fishing Experiment)

Can you make a fishing spoon lure out of a teaspoon? Today we attempt to create a fishing spoon lure form a normal everyday kitchen spoon you would use to eat cereal. We then take our homemade fishing lure to the saltwater fishig pier and the beach to put it to the test and see if it can catch a fish. What kind of fish could possibly be around and bite this? Can we actually make a spoon lure.. will it work?? We have a rod, reel, a spoon and a dream.. today we find out if a homemade spoon can catch fish. I did not expect for this to happen..

Try a butterknife. Use two sets of pliers and get a small twist in it. Drill your holes first. Don't cut it. Use the heavy end for the swivel light end for the hook. Dip the drillbit in oil before drilling.

I’ve lost way too many gotcha plugs and Xraps to Spanish and blues over the years. I started using a small 18-20” piece of 20lb seven strand wire with a figure 8 knot on one end with a split ring for the lure and a swivel on the other end to attach your braid to.

Watched it. Make a simple modification. Straighten out the hook closest to the center and stick a curltail plastic. You'll get some fish. Louisiana fishing , I believe that will work and for a more streamline presentation put egg weight on the main line at least 30 " in front of the spoon.

What i do when fishing light lures, is popping on a spirolino float, it serves as a casting weigth as well sinking to your prefered debt, spirolino/bombarda floats comes in different varieties, some of them float on the surface, some sink to 1 meter, some sink to 2 meters etc.

I have never had a lot of luck with any kind of spoon in salt or fresh water. The only thing that I caught on a spoon was a little baby sand shark. An old timer once told me that he use to go fishing in Texas in the late 50’s when he was a kid. He said that you could catch bass all day using just a spoon. He said that catching and releasing small bass teaches them to avoid certain types of lures, especially spoons. In the old days, he said that people would keep the small bass because there were no size restrictions. I find it funny that there are all types of restrictions on redfish nowadays. Back in the 50’s, redfish were plentiful and were considered trash fish. People would net them by the hundreds and grind them up for fertilizer. Nobody thought about eating them in those days before blackened redfish became a hot commodity but that’s another story for another day.

Yes! I have actually done that! I was fishing, trolling for salmon, with friends and lost my last lure. I cut the handle off a spoon, drilled a couple of holes in it, added a hook and a bit of red insulation tape, (silver with a flash of red works here) and a swivel. I tied it on, let it out and got a salmon on my second try!

Drilling stainless - low revs and a lot of feed force, thick oil. Thing is with stainless it is actually quite soft but it tempers fast with heat therefore the low revs etc. Think it could be easier to punch a hole with like a 3mm sharpened punch and a bit of hardwood behind.

To drill SS or any hard metal use low speed low pressure and lube to dissipate heat. You might want to hit a thrift store instead of a $1 store. You're more likely to get a higher grade of SS so your spoon will last longer, and you can find different sizes
