Wildlife Biologist Breaks Down Recent Thylacine Photo Evidence
Ғылым және технология
Extinct or Alive host, Forrest Galante breaks down the recent hype surrounding potential photographic evidence of current existence of Thylacine (The Tasmanian Tiger).
The Thylacine Awareness Group of Australia is claiming to have photographic evidence that Thylacine are not extinct. Founder, Neil Waters has been on the media circuit showing the photographs to select people, but not everyone believes that his photos show Thylacine.

I'm hoping the photos are definitive enough to show whether its a Thylacine or not, keep up the good work!
Recent photo was of a cat sitting down, not walking away. Listen to his experts, they are being lead to explain and agree with his interpretation of the images. Its a tabby cat facing away from the camera , looking up to the left. Can not believe this is getting people excited.

Would be cool if you guys talked about extant or "cryptic" flora. Im currently studying a handful of hardy Opuntiad cacti, that occur in relictual colonies across Ontario, Canada. 🌵🇨🇦🍁 And feel as though i can directly relate to and contribute to the basis of this discussion; regarding the validity of photographic evidence. When verifying a species existence or re-emergence. I can DIRECTLY relate to the possesion of sensitive photograph evidence and data, that could otherwise jeopardize and endanger a population's existence... 😖😣 The geo coordinates have never been published online, and have only been shared once; with our respective govt wildlife / conservation agency for documentation purposes. My goal is to have this species recognized as naturally occuring to our Province. With that said, the next documented ocurrance of this species is 1000kms away along the southwestern border, between Manitoba & Saskatchewan. Since finding this population in Ontario of ~20 microcolonies & ~280 individuals, Ive felt compelled to provide the necessary survey information to have the species considered as at risk. Im currently in that process of building said infrastructure like Forrest was talking about, but its so hard to implement anything when there's conflicting opinions on what the goals of a restoration / rehabilitation project should include. The board; that oversee the land trust property, that these particular cacti occur on. Would prefer if they weren't publicized and have no plans to study them any further. So i feel kinda caught in the crossfire trying to bring awareness to their existence without jeopardize their location. I think it was you guys who said this, quote me if im wrong. But i recall you guys mentioning the value of biologist having street smarts. Does that include sneaking around at night to observe and study an incredibly rare species of vascular plant, that i otherwise couldnt see unless i lived on the otherwise of the country? Id personally like to hear an open discussion, regarding all the times landowners or organizations may have resented Forrest for coming in and doing the work for them. Has he ever been discouraged from completing his research? Cheers, - Ottawa Cacti and Succulent Sanctuary 💚🌵🌿
I kinda think it will be another inconclusive shot but I’m glad it’s getting interest in animals like this out there, to give people thought about preserving habitat, because this animal is either extinct or nearly extinct. If you haven’t seen Neils documentary “living the thylacine dream” you should. He’s not just some guy who thinks he saw something. So I’d go with not clear photo, not conclusively a thylacine, file it with other interesting shot of something.

hold the line. thylacine to the moon!
So Forrest makes a good point about Nick's motivations, there would be decent hysteria. Not heaps, but people would be excited, and we would all be pretty happy. So protecting the area against onlookers is good. So a few things about Australian culture. Tall Poppy Syndrome is prevalent here, we're the best at it. So that may be coming into play with Nick not finding it, but he's a good guy so doubtful. Second. Australia is full of bogans, a word where there's no translation and urban dictionary is wrong, the local ones would absolutely try and kill these animals. I have no doubt on that, zero doubt. Aussies would back me up on that. Now the whole pademelon thing and "that doesn't even look close to a Thylacine. Well, remember that macropods walk pentadactylly, because they can't move their legs independently, so they bend over and go on all fours. On a trail camera, especially a low resolution image, a pademelon would absolutely look like a Thylacine, especially when confirmation bias comes into play
@sethsmietana7733

Mr. Mooney may also say it’s unlikely to be a Thylacine because it isn’t 100% and, being a leading expert, wouldn’t want to prematurely claim it’s been rediscovered. It might look a lot like a Thylacine, but be just that little bit too unclear to responsibly give a confident ID.

Right. Mooney doesn't want to look like a clown if it isn't, so skepticism is the safest choice.

To Forrest’s point if you find an animal like Neil says he has you should absolutely not go to social media if you want credit and to help the animal, go through closed door biologists so an infrastructure of protection can be set up before the announcement, you will get your credit, I just don’t get why Neil thinks he has to do this by himself and any actual biologists that chime in are the devil to him

The only way you would have been able to go to Tassie and see it if it was " real " is if you knew the location . lf it was genuine there would be no way the location would be made public therefore there would be no need for Nick to put his reputation on the line by knowingly discrediting the photo's . No conspiracy theories here boys just a paddy melon hopping away through the grass .
Maybe Nick Mooney requires Neil to be the bigger man and replace his unambiguous Thylacine pics with ambiguous (but interesting) Pademelon pics in order to protect the Thylacine from us humans fucking them over again!

You cannot determine an animal's existence with evidence and proof. Evidence and proof are useful for like crime scenes. An animal in its natural habitat isn't a crime scene, thus evidence and proof are useless. To rediscover something, you must first find it and then that'll determine its existence. It may take a long time, but will eventually pay off due to patience and passion, as well as hope and faith.
Them is dead as dodo.If u want see tyacines, better clone em.
