Wildest beasts on Earth: Killer Whale | Documentary

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

In the remote volcanic archipelago of the Crozet islands, meet David Reicnert, a cameraman who has an extraordinary talent to locate, approach and tame some of the wildest beasts on Earth.
Enduring raging winds and icy waters with minimal protection, he enters the intimacy of elephant seals and orcas using clever ethological analyses and gets them used to his presence. Then comes the extraordinary: meet a man who communicates with penguins with body language, calms young seals and turns them into live pillows, lies underwater with 8 ton orcas or mature male seals...
Context:
David Reichert is a young American wildlife filmmaker who has dedicated his life to his passion. Specialized in marine subjects, at ease in rough seas and icy waters, David has an incredible resistance to extreme environments and a real talent for dealing with complex wildlife situations. To achieve this unique film, he spent 4 months in an isolated bay on an island 2000 miles away from the nearest continent with Jean François BARTHOD, another talented filmmaker and director with a solid experience as a DOP of feature films.

I prefer Beluga Whales and ordinary dolphins (Belugas are my favorite animal though)... Orcas can be assholes the way they terrorize other marine mammals like Sea Lion pups (which I really like) by throwing them up in the air repeatedly for some fun before eating them. If they do have the amount of empathy people believe them that could almost be described as an “evil/sadistic” behavior...

Brian Cline well they are called “the wolves of the sea” yes their behavior does seem cruel, but that is how they hunt. Their called” Killer Whales” for a reason, which you know. They eat other whales, kill Sharks Great Whites for their liver. I do adore belugas and dolphins as well. These mammals use 60 percent of their brains. Amazing

Ruthy Gilmore true I suppose it is just part of nature, and they probably aren’t cognizant enough to consider the trauma they inflict when doing that, and I suppose hunger knows little boundaries of morality in the wild. I agree though their intellect is very impressive as is their social behavior. It’s also interesting how they almost never attack humans even though they could kill and eat us just as easily as many larger sharks. Still though it is something I like to point out when people talk like they are innocent a angels and humans are the devil... Orcas don’t seem all that innocent to me lol. I do really like them too but the more I’ve learned about their cruel behavior especially towards other mammals including whales, the more I’ve come to favor dolphins and especially the Beluga whale (which has always been my favorite). I don’t care really what they do to fish though as they aren’t nearly as evolved and intelligent/aware as the marine mammals. I also have a new growing interest in the Octopus, there are some cool documentaries on KZread showing just how impressive their intellect is.

This was a very nice documentary and it was an eye opening experience. I was really sad when the one little pup was orphaned and had to fend for himself..just hearing him cry for his momma and then be pushed away from the other momma seals broke my heart. I was literally crying over that part.😢💔😭 Also there were a lot of things I didn't even know about Orcas..like for instance..they sleep with one eye open literally because only half of their brain sleeps at a time. Also that they rub up against each other to show affection to one another..and that each pod of Orcas have their own unique speech pattern to talk to one another. That's awesome! Like they say" You learn something new every day"! Thanks for the great video! 🤗🐧🌊🐋💙

Amazing documentary, you are so brave, David :) I envy you for having an opportunity to make a contact with orcas. I keep dreaming about swimming with them someday although I don't think I would ever be so brave. :D

. One day I meet the producer of this documentaries. I was art student in the 90. We meet on a road, when chating about movies. As a student, he helped me to improve some writen stories and lend me a camera tripod, with all his trust. Amazing guy who tryied to produce one of my projects few years later. Amazing people. I don't forget.
