A Killer Whale Called Luna

Ойын-сауық

This is the emotional story of one young killer whale's quest for companionship after he was separated from his family. Luna was just two years old when, alone and confused, he found himself on the rugged, wild coast of Vancouver Island. Following his tumultuous life, the film records the human friendships he developed and the trouble this led him into. From death threats, to numerous capture attempts by the government, the film-makers watched as people tried to determine his fate. Luna shows us how quickly our lives can once again cross with the natural world.

I can't believe that DFO manager lady said "......we just didn't feel that Luna needed rescuing.......". Someone needs to take that lady 2000 miles from the nearest human, and tell her she has to walk out on her own, with no means of communication. We'll see how many animal friends she has by the time she gets back to civilization., that is, if they don't ignore her "for her own good"!

If you want the villian in this tragic story, look no further than Marilyn Joyce. Who amazingly appears in this documentary. She esssntially killed Luna with the thoughtless application of her theory about the 'wall of separation.' She was too narrow minded to grasp that in certain exceptional instances, that philosophy needed to be set aside. If the plan forwarded by the journalist couple had been approved Luna might still be alive.

Not allowing the biologists wanting to train Luna to follow the boat & take him 200 miles up the coast to reunite with his family was the biggest mistake ever. Marilyn Joyce was absolutely ignorant & had idea how to truly deal with this precious life trapped in that place. Then again the time Luna lived with the people, he touched so many lives. He taught those who engaged with him unconditional love, I believe if they would have trapped him, they would have sold him to Sea World, instead of taking him to his family. He will always live in the hearts of those who knew him, even those of us that followed his story. ❤ He was a friend to anyone who wanted to be a friend. ❤

Omg' rip "Luna" Luna was lonely and was desperate for companionship ,, from what I hear about whales they are in pods with as many as 40 and they stay together for life. Luna was alone, as for the people who tried everything to keep Luna safe ,bless your hearts, and for the heartless so called officials did not want anyone near Luna, some peoole wanted to even kill her for messing up there boat shame on you all , for not taking care of such a magnificent animal, I wouldn't doubt that maybe she was killed intentionally.. but even if it happened how they say it happened its still the same shit, you people who wanted everyone to ignore Luna , YOU ARE TO BLAME and should pay the consequences, for not doing the right thing , Would you leave a toddler alone? This story really broke my heart, Luna should still be alive if humans would just have some compassion and and a heart for these gentle giants these unfortunate things can be prevented.. ........................... 🐋 🐋 🐋 🐋 🐋 Just a reminder DO NOT PURCHASE tickets to Sea world or any where they have whales and dolphins etc.. @@fernandab41 I am not a troll. And I was employed at a Natural History Museum for 25 years until I retired. Your original statement was broadly accusitive of humanity for failing to heed the teachings of a lost adolescent male Resident Orca. First a lot of humans responded to Luna with kindness and attention, while others tried to do their best to safeguard him. Second your unproven assertion that Luna was on some kind of mission to enlighten humanity is total speculation. Most likely this was a young animal, who had become separated from it's pod, and just as the film implies sought out attention from humans as a substitute for the sociality he would have experienced in his pod. As for wasting time, that is what I feel I have just done writing this paragraph, because odds on you are not going to accept anything I have to say.

This was a beautiful journey cut short by humanity. The warning by an evil man was verbally announced. And without the protection by the right people Luna became a star not a stat. Luna had more love in 5 years than most of us in a lifetime. Thank you to all in the Puget Sound in living with Luna or Tsux'iit as he was known. I side with those of the Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nations and would have paddled with them beating my drum. We had clearly broken down walls even though the fisheries didn’t approve and shame on their ignorance but mankind thinks it knows everything and creates rules. Luna broke the rules and the boundaries. This Orca was special in so many ways and lived by his rules. To any human wishing him ill will shows their lack of compassion and respect for this planet and it inhabits. I know those are big words for people with small minds but their distasteful opinions show off their ignorance and incompatibility. They likely beat their kids and wives. But for those who showed compassion and love their lives and hearts will be rewarded. That’s a lot of the lesson. Decide which side your own. The dark side or the side representing good. I choose like the children to represent good but will protect those I love. And all I need is my drum.

This was so sad. Luna was in his home and they were the intruders! As always, the government thinks they own and control everything, including wild life in its natural habitat. He tried to teach them peace and co-existence, they missed a big lesson! All he wanted was love, friendship and family but all they had was anger and intolerance. I think the lesson he was trying to give was pretty clear. I don't believe for one second that his death was an accident. It seems they waited until no one was around to get rid of him.

@Erthellf cause the government wants money they were literally lying and trying to fine random people 100,000 dollars just for touching the whale! Like that just tells me they didn't care so much about the animal more the fact that people bonding with luna would probably throw out alot study and research they supposedly "spent time doing that supposedly said animals and humans interacting is bad" when really it's not bad but because that would throw all that effort and money out the window they didn't want people to find out so that forced people to ignore him just cause they didn't want to admit their "past" research might be wrong.

One thing that I see when I look at a case like Luna or Springer for that matter is how quickly these animals bond. Springer had very limited contact with people and even once she was reunited with her family and found a foster mom, she still chased boats for a little while until said foster mom put a stop to it. And Springer was practically isolated from the time we found her to the time she was released. For Luna, there really wasn't any other outcome than to bond with people. Not only does that bond form very very quickly, it is also very very strong. And Luna couldn't exactly interact with people up close 24-7. Imagine the other killer whales that do! Good luck trying to break that bond. In fact, I'd say don't even try.! Just. Dont! It might (and I believe it would) cause even more damage.

they should've let that man take Luna back to his family that first season as soon as they found out, the whole situation just got worst and worst, fisheries dept fault for not letting that man at least try in the boat to take him back to his family where he belonged. Luna was just looking for a family company of any kind and to play like all kids and teenagers, so sad that it ended that way. I do think they had no intention of taking him to his family instead sea world a fate far hurst then death for a animal who was free, God and pray left that gate open and im glad.

When She who Must not be Named says that "friendship is the worst thing given", why do ALL of the places housing Orca try to say the exact opposite? sooooo suspect. I'm sorry Luna, I am so sorry the same people you wanted to rely on, let you down so miserably.

Its crazy that so many humans were real friends with a whale, also why is everything getting so blurry

OK , I’ll watch this. Then I’m not going to comment ‘ cause I don’t need a bunch of negative crap , we all have enough of all of it, really. Friggin’ SeaWorld in Orlando is an hour half from me And I’ve not been there for 38 years! Too bad for the whales and really too bad for humans.

Then they send complaintants in so the entitled can get what they want, that was no coincidence that some small minded people out of no where start complain about something so majestic and loving …
