True story: I was on my third class of a Robertson sweet red. The setting is a nice farm in Okahandja, a few kilos out of Windhoek. This farmhouse was on a small hill surrounded by beautiful massive rocks that encapsulated parts of the house itself and further created for a playful environment for the exterior of the house. The farmhouse had many cats, which I believe were owned at the residence because of the remote location which could have many snakes around. Needles to say, a bitch was outside trying to chase down one of the cats to pat. I then saw a black and white cat, that actually didn’t have a front-right leg. The cat was next to a huge rock, and with wine in one hand I bent down to pat the cat. After a few seconds I felt a shower on the left side of my head, close to my upper neck/ cheek area. My drunk self didn’t look to the direction of the spray, I rather looked upwards thinking it was raining(of course it wasn’t raining cunt!). After realizing we were within a drought, and that it most definitely wasn’t raining, I turned my head to the left. BOOM! A Zebra Snake in the cracks of the rocks literally hissing at a very close, almost face-to-face, distance. The cat was hissing too, maybe because the cat noticed the snake when it was sitting and staring at the rock before my dumb ass interfered. I very slowly moved back and went back into the house to pour myself another glass and get slightly more intoxicated in the confines of a kitchen where I felt much safer. I did realize, after telling everyone that a Zebra Snake spat at me, that I was soooo fucking lucky. If I was angled slightly more towards the snake, maybe some of the spit might have gotten into my eyes and caused damage. I wear huge prescription glasses though, so that came in clutch too. But if it bit me I would have been toast. It was so close to my neck and the cell damage in that area would have just killed me. No one can tell me I would have survived if I was not calm and or didn’t realize the initial spitting and aggravated the snake. I do blame and thank the cat. If it wasn’t for the cat I wouldn’t have been in that predicament, but the cat was also looking in the correct direction of the snake, which inevitably made me realize it too. All-in-all, Robertson’s sweet red is really good and can get you through any situation. Aka: never stay sober!!!

that's quite a story. I had an experience of a similar kind in Thailand, on Koh Phan Gan island, I was staying in a remote area of the island, walking from the beach towards my bungalow, minding my own business, when I felt something touch my crotch, my pubis to be exact, I looked down in reaction and there was a snake, coiled with half her body up looking at me face to face, strangely enough, I didn't panic either, I don't think my heart rate went up at all, then or later, I moved a couple of steps backward and the snake slithered away. I never found out whether it was poisonous or not, probably not, can't imagine a poisonous snake giving you a warning nudge.
