Good to see you back ! I thoroughly enjoyed your search for the geese and your recording of the morning lift off from the roost. I am fortunate to live near a lake where several breeds of geese roost during the fall migration. The cooler temperatures and dark mornings out here in Alberta in the late fall usually means I am usually the sole witness of the spectacle of thousands of geese lifting off from the freezing up lake the as the sun comes up. Its good to know there are others out there that appreciate such wonders of nature.

Excellent Geoff - some nice east coast goosing, always but always a case of putting your finger in the air whilst crossing the others. Days at the Mondliath canny be too far away I'm sure, hope you're settled a bit more now with the little one and the routines are going smoothly. Remember those days. Thanks Craig, glad you enjoyed it :) Absolutely, we've all had to curb our ambitions on a lot of projects in the past year, so it was really good to find a local one! To be honest, I wonder if I would have persisted in the same way if I could roam more freely to other locations... anyway I'm glad I stuck with it!

Loved the video Geoff and its amazing how as wildlife photographers we all have subjects that we find a struggle. I suspect you won't find this funny but because the River Trent flooded behind our house we had a lake for about six weeks with a thin strip of grass maybe 25metres in width over our back fence. Oh, almost forgot to mention the 300 geese!! Great perseverance mate👍

Thanks Scott, glad you liked it :) Indeed, I'm sure that's true, and sometimes you just don't know when you start a project that it's going to be tricky... Great that you get a temporary wildfowl lake there, though if I recall your video correctly the floods nicked your bird feeders ;)

Geoff, thanks for sharing that. Anyone who’s spent any time doing wildlife photography can relate to your experiences. I’ve been trying to photograph coyotes and red fox on some private land for over a year without a lot of success. My trailcam shows there are plenty of them in the area, but they are mostly active at night. Camera trapping may be the only efficient means of capturing them on camera.

Brilliant video Geoff i understand the frustration we get thousands of them here on the solway but because its such a large area to cover its not easy finding them , but on the plus side there's always somthing to capture out on the salt marshes.📸👍

Hey buddy! nice to see you back, hope the family are all well 😊i've been getting some pics of Greylag, Canada and Brent Geese along the thames here...Nothing better than the Geese flying back ive watched them on Islay coming back superb stuff and food for the soul ❤️... Maybe find the farmer/owner of the field and whack a hide up and leave it there? I'm glad you said the roll with it bit, I'm a naturalist and nature nut, always have been, i love watching wildlife and getting a good picture now sometimes has to come as a bonus to the experience eh, and thats being a naturalist wildlife photographer is all about... great vlog and you take care eh..... JP

Nice one. I see you have the same struggle as many geeshunters here in Norway have. You dont get close enough. The geese is a wery observant bird, and it's always a head or 50 that are on the watch. The hunters usually get on their spot when its still pitch dark and uses hides/blinds an additional plastic/ rubber geeses that they place out in the feeld, looking like feeding birds, to make them land or at least take a round over to see. I live in a part of Norway that probably has the most migrating geese. Both spring and autumn. They have actually increased so mutch in numbers now, that they start to be an problem for farmers, (eating the first green gras of the field, in spring). We are talking about huge numbers, like 50.000 to 70.000 geese. :-)

Thanks! Wow, yeah that sounds like a lot of geese! My early morning attempt at the field had that idea behind it - get there before the geese... But by then they were going to a different location (and I've not seen them on that field again, though they are definitely still in the area)...

Thanks for video love your channel will the z 7 work with old type Nikon 600 f4 I don’t have a problem with manual focus just wondering if metering exposure etc work many thanks John

Hi John, yes it should work just fine with older lenses - depending on the age of the lens you may have to set the aperture on the camera /and/ on the lens ring if not shooting wide open, but metering and exposure should be good.

If you mean the bird that flies right to left behind the landing geese, I'm pretty sure that's a corvid - probably a carrion crow - rather than a raptor..

Heh, I think that's also faffy due to then needing to have the phone turned on, get the bluetooth connection running etc.. To be honest, snapbridge is probably quite useful, but it was so annoying and buggy when they first released it I have been a bit put off from it ever since!!
