The Ultimate Wildlife Photography Accessory (How To Make A Camera Bean Bag)
Фильм және анимация
Here's a little lockdown project for all you budding creators out there!! We all know that bean bags can be a great form of support for wildlife photographers. I use one regularly and sometimes can be a lot easier and quicker to use than a tripod. In this film I show you various ways that I use one and show you an instructional film on how to make your own.

Nice one Trevor, well done to the Mrs!!😀👍🏼
Just discovered your channel today, I"m really enjoying your work. Love the bean bag, and I know its a year later, but I've made 3 purchases from Japan and never had a problem. If you read their comments on the bottom, many have a no questions asked policy. I've only returned one Item, and it was a lens I made a mistake with, there was nothing wrong with it. They refunded my money in full, and paid the postage back to Japan from USA. I always shop my options with Japan. Buy with confidence. Thanks for a great channel, you have a new subscriber. Thumbs up, well done!

Wow fantastic ~
I love your video. Thank you so. I have for doing this. I am American and I sew a good deal but I do need to change all the measurements to inches. But I suspect I can handle that part. I am 73 and want to make a camera Bean bag to help me shoot from my car. I want to give a shout out to my Tamron lenses. My 150 to 600 and my 18 to 400. A very nice lens for a bit less. I know you are a professional while I am a student. Photography has truly helped me. I lost my middle child 3 1/2 years again. A beautiful 45 yr. old son. The birds and my work keep me going. But at my age and size being able to shoot from my car is a big help. So I am going to try and make your bag to use in my car. Thanks so much for sharing your talent!

@@simoneardley thank you for your kind words regarding my loss. I just finished my first bean bag today. I used your video and added some of my own ideas.I used a pair of bluejeans and cut them up for much of the material. I think I spent about $20. The first test run was over the door of my Honda Pilot as I photographed a bald Eagle on her nest using my Nikon D500 and my Tamron 600mm lens with a coupler added. It worked very well. I plan to make a second one incorporating some improvements based on what I have learned. You are my inspiration for sure🙂
My wife's dab hand on the machine so I've ordered one from her! Lol...Excellent job Simon....
I think what they've been using is Buckwheat Hulls for the filling, a whole lot lighter than rice. You can travel with an empty bag to a distant overseas location, pick up a bag of buckwheat hulls and you're set. Oh an kudo's on the shirt. I just bought a bunch of olive utility shirts myself from Mark's Work Warehouse over here to wear in the field when I'm out and about. :)
@simoneardley

Not sure we can get Buckwheat over here in the UK, sounds a good option as the rice is pretty heavy 👍🏼
@twiztedzero1685

@@simoneardley Seems you can get buckwheat hulls in the UK after all, they use them for beanbag chairs and pillows too. Google them up find your nearest outlet. :)
I bought my Sony 70-200 2.8 brand new in box, of Ebay and it saved me a bunch of money. No regrets on that decision
Thank you for this video. I know this was over a year ago, but a suggestion you may have already come up with: your side and bottom pieces could be one continuos piece, (or the ends and bottom could be a single piece). That would make for less seams and make it much stronger.

If I had to lay odds on what your next vlog subject would be I think I would have put sewing at 500/1 lol. You seem to have a bee in your bonnet about the 300mm 2.8 so I checked it out. First things that struck me was the price at over 5 grand and the weight which is an arm stretching 2900 grams. That's too heavy for my liking. The 600 mm f4 is only about a kilo heavier! I use the 500mm 5.6 PF which weighs only 1460 grams. Nikon do a 300mm f4 PF which is 1669 quid but weighs only 755 grams you might like to consider. I thought maybe you were thinking of using teleconverters on the 300 2.8 as a 2.0x would give you a 600mm f5.6 which would be handy and half the price of a 600 f4. Nikon DSLR's won't autofocus below f8 as you probably know so I can just about get away with a 1.4x on my 500mm which gives me 700mm f8, usable on my D850. This limitation doesn't apply on Nikon mirrorless cameras and there's a very interesting vlog by a guy named Geoff Cooper which compares the 500mm PF and the 300mm 2.8 with all the Nikon teleconverters. You might find it interesting although he does use a Nikon Z7 mirrorless. There's a company called E-infinity which does imports with a guarantee you might like to have a look at.

Great design and I will have a go at making one. I had one for years filled with polystyrene balls but my new dog shredded it when on the riverbank recently and I spent an hour cleaning up the mess.... I'm sticking with sunflower hearts in future just in case. I learned to sew when I needed a boat cover and have saved thousands since I bought an old machine. It just takes a bit of patience and practice! Great video. Well done.

Hi Simon, I have my misses looking up the products to make one of these great idea, thanks for sharing. Going back to your question about 300mm f2.8, I bought the VR version from Japan a few years ago used, it came no problem and was mint. I had to pay import duty but even with that still £1000 cheaper than same product in uk. I traded it in for some other photographic equipment and got quite a bit more for it than what I paid. This has been my only purchase from Japan and I had no issues. Steve.

Glad you enjoyed it Tim 👍🏼
Excellent tutorial Simon, just asked the misses to sew one up to match the tripod leg covers she made me.. I looked at a Canon lens on eBay from Japan but when you factor in the duty and import taxes post brexit it was about the same as their priced over here. Got one used from Wex in the end with warranty. Also have a look on CEX website as they do 2 year warranty on lenses if they have a tidy one of the model your after. 👍🇬🇧

@@simoneardley Cheers. I have ordered a bean bag and look forward to receiving the modified version. Received my notification today that it has been posted. Happy to support your channel. Watched all your videos during lockdown and gave me the desire to get out there and get some shots.
Fantasic mate, id be interested in one of those . Think if i made one id loose it and set fire to the sewing machine or it would end up looking like a pair of underpants. Keep it it mate always an enjoyable watch.
