My great-grandfather had 2 greyhounds to help protect his cattle from coyotes. As a very young girl I used to look out the upstairs bedroom window, on 🌒 moon-lit nights and watched them play with the coyotes. I felt so guilty knowing this, because I knew those dogs were not supposed to be making friends with the coyotes. I didn't tell the adults/anyone. I thought the dogs would be in trouble and be taken away. I didn't want that bc l loved playing with the 🐕dogs too.

That's such a touching story😭. Why can't humans and coyotes get along or some good people could figure out a good solution. Killing them doesn't solve anything. Because it been happening for more than a century and they still survived and adapted in human habitats and communities.

lol how do know it was a trap? I was a professional coyote trapper for years. A trap can not take a foot off and the only trap that can break a bone is a bear trap (if not every trapper would have broken fingers). And the whole coyote biting/chewing it's foot off is a made up lie by animal activist. It doesn't happen

''SHE''? Ok, I got good news and bad new, the good news is: That coyote is never going to harm your dog. The bad news is I think that coyote is trying to bond with your dog, and this in not an euphemism for mating, Im saying that she really wants to bond with your dog, that's whats coyotes do in the wild, the bad part is that she is not going to search for another male coyote anymore, a coyote bond is for life in most cases. (your dog is a male right you should castrate him just in case) PD: Is your dog really small or that coyote is really big?

Too bad about her paw? LOL! It's a coyote Judy.. I had one chasing my little Jack Russell at 7 in the morning, doing figure 8's around 2 trees in my front yard. Since then..I've killed 5 coyotes in my backyard. Don't be mislead, they will carry your little ankle biter off with ease when they get the chance. It's usually in Feb, March, and April when they attack. Those are the worst months for coyotes killing dogs. And those are the easiest months to clean up on coyotes. They come right in to distress sounds. After a long winter of trying to survive when the food gets low, mating season, and then they have their pups and need to find food for them. They will resort to your dog if they can't find any. As the saying goes.. The only good coyote, is a dead coyote.

The coyote is overweight and has access to a non traditional food source, such as garbage or human feeding. She's probably been rejected by her pack. I've seen one coyote that was heavier and it was at a highway rest area where truckers gave it snacks. In addition to being heavy, it had lost the jitteriness that coyotes are known for. The coyote hung-out at that same location for a few years approaching trucks for snacks.

Sad to know that based on your wording she might be gone now and would love to know that she got a chance at a domestic life as the wild is so punishing. Her disadvantage here would catch up with her eventually and given her disposition, so unfortunate. Love to see the behavior and that you got to enjoy this for so long.

Sorry Doc. That coyote is not eating kitties. Some human is feeding that coyote pet food. See how fat he is? Unlike other predators, coyotes quickly stop hunting if being fed by humans. One sheep farmer discovered this. Coyotes were killing sheep. He tried shooting them, trapping them, and poison. It didn't work. He contacted a meat butcher friend, and put out meat scraps several nights a week for the coyotes. The coyotes ate the scraps and stopped eating the sheep.

@@Angel.thdr3am3r Believe me, I have. The canids happen to be my favorite animals, so I have read about each individual species. Because Coyotes fill similar ecological niches as Jackals they are sometimes called the "American Jackal", but after domesticated dogs, they are more closer to grey wolves than they are to each other. Like Coyotes, Jackals do hunt rodents and other small prey, but are reliant on carrion for most of their protein; wheras Coyotes are more predatory in that hunt larger game such as deer.

I feel like the injury in the coyotes leg is because at one point she got stuck in a trap and some humans took her to a vet and maybe thats why she is so friendly. Her fur is gorgeous. Luckily she didn’t die. :)

No one took her to a Vet not arround her . She made it because of the cold winter we gets down her like -36 to -45 The bleeding was not as bad because of the cold she had time to clean it and it healed and at the end of her paw she got like a hard skin you could tell that she did a good job taking care of it. That happend about 6 years ago.It could be from rail way track that she lost her paw from the switches when they move them Because lots of Coyotes walk on the rail way track her and there lots of switches her that just what I thought some people put out traps in winter also to try to catch lynx or Bob cats and there not alowd no more to du that.

What??? The trap would have to be the biggest trap ever made to do that. It was probably hit by a car or born that way or lost it from being shot. My guess! A car!

Beautiful interaction they seem so happy together. I'm nervous of my dogs with coyotes but what we have to realise is that they kill to eat, not for sport. They don't know that your dog is your pet, they see it as prey. Coyotes will typically avoid interaction with humans and pets and as pet owners, we need to be responsible. Both animals are beautiful 💕
