Wild Cow Goes Down The Road/ Clean up on Cedar Mesa

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

This week was just another week of cleaning up. We turned the wild cow over to the sheriffs office. We looked at some springs that needed re built, and we continued to drift cows around on the hood ole cedar Mesa. Thanks for the support!

Hi, thanks for watching. We love that wild and rough country. It is the type of place that you honestly feel not many people have stepped foot in. It is breath taking and we feel so blessed to get to ride and work in this country. Take care

❤🎉 Well that was quite the jam packed video!! Did the sick cow make it? Poor thing... That one view of your horse looked like he matched the road. 😁🐴 It's nice to see a Pitzer horse living up to his pedigree, I guess you have a few of them.🐎🐎 Some of that land doesn't even look real, the rock formations and such are so interesting, really amazing. 😮 Stay safe and thanks for your videos!! 🙏❤️🙂🇺🇸🐎😍😊🤠

where I'm at you can collect a gathering fee on those mavericks after sale. as for putting 'em in your herd, depending on local circumstances they are kind of fun to keep around. the local thieves have a hard time with 'em. 😆 plus she didn't seem that bad she was barely on the fight after being isolated, she was fine in the bunch. I have seen (been chased horseback) much worse. and horned cattle at that.

Shaun, my grandfather bought a lease in the Hole in the Rock from BLM in the 40’s and 50’s. At the time there were no corrals at the “Soda”. Everyone in town told him he was crazy because he would not be able to catch them, there was no way to contain them, no way to water them, and no way to feed them. Grandpa headed out from Escalante riding his horse taking a pack mule along to look for some of the wild Mexican and Mormon Pioneer cattle. He told Grandma he would be back in two weeks. When grandpa got out there he saw the “Soda” Alcove and said to himself “there’s my containment”. Then he found the Spring a I little further south and he said “there is my water”. He then rode around looking for cattle and spotted some. A few days later he started looking for a way to get them up on the 50 mile mountain and found the trail that goes up there. He rode the trail and decided it would work. He went back to town and got the material for the fence and corral. He traded something for the cabin that was down there. He took the cabin apart numbering them as he went. He then went back out and built the corral fence and later the pen and loading chute. He also put the cabin together. He was not able to hire any men in town to help him so he hired a babysitter and grandma went out there with him. He brought out over 500 head of those wild cattle. He only lost the mule on the 50 mile mountain trail. Eventually in about 1953 he sold the lease and herd to the the Griffin’s. For some reason Eason I am thinking he sold to someone else and they sold to the Griffen’s. I will have to go listen to his life story again. I love the videos. Seeing the wild cow in this video is what prompted me to send this comment.

Thank you so much for watching and for your comment. My Wife is from Escalante, we love that country over there. The 50 mile is one of the most rugged and remote places in the country. Your Grandpa must have been one of the toughest cowboys on earth to build that ranch.

Love these rides. Had no idea there were wild cows. I would not want to get in a pen with one. What kind of grasses are the beef eating? Thanks for another good video.

Hi, thank you for watching. Our cows eat a variety of native grasses and a lot of brush. I know it looks pretty sparse, but there is a lot for these cows to eat, and they do really well. We did a video a few months ago showing some of the different plants they eat. We also supplement them with some extra proteins and vitamins.

We turned her over to the Sherriff's office. They will most likely take her to the sale barn. Where she will be sold for hamburger. As you could see in the video, these wild cows do not do good in captivity. Thank you for watching and have a great week.

The trouble with a cow like that is she can ruin other cattle , she takes off and she will get other cattle thinking they need to do the same !
