Taking Cows Into A New Remote Pasture/ Truck Broke Down.

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

We had a really busy week. We got the cows prepped and taking clear down into a remote pasture that hasn’t been used in 25 years. TRASON’S truck broke down, and we saw some of the prettiest views in the world.

Your horse buying policies are very smart. Like you say, breeding is a big consideration. Jayden was very smart to start out by circling and flexing the new horse! You pointed out that experience is the best teacher! Thank you for sharing the surprises that you come across. Too bad about the transfer case on the dodge.

Thanks for the ride along. The youngster was a pleasure to behold. Your videography is superb. I feel the magnitude of the scene through your lens. That ancient dwelling is a site that deserves more study. Nice to see you have the cattle on good grazing. Hope the water hauling goes well. Blessings to you and yours. 👍👍👏👏🇺🇲

I have been really enjoying your videos but have been wondering about something. Is all that land you graze on state owned and you rent grazing rights or do you own some. Do you have fields of grazing grasses close to your ranch? I grew up on a farm in Wis which is completely different. Love all your scenery.

Hi Helen, thank you for your questions. Here, a vast majority of the land is public and owned by the federal and State government. We have bought the grazing permits. Both our summer and winter grazing permits are on public, federal and State land. We do raise some hay on both private and leased farm ground, but our cows spend their lives on grazing allotments. the allotments are State and federal owned. So we comply with all of the rules and regulations that come along with that.

I live in Montana but have traveled and camped in the area around Bluff, used to kinda think I'd like to live in Bluff. The new horse is trying to say something with the tail wringing when you first get on, but he sure seems to ride out nice once you get going. I spent a lot of years working on ranches before I got old and decrepitude so I'm sure enjoying watching your videos.

Hi Susan, great eye! That horse was telling us a lot wasn't he. I thought for a minute Jayden might get in trouble, but then he just kind of relaxed and walked out. We have ridden him 5 days and each time he gets better. He did not ring his tail today, just quietly walked off. Thank you for watching. Take care

excellent video. This is the perfect time for you all to learn the principle of bend. The new horse needs to be ridden with the principle of bend for 3 years. If I could be there to show you you could learn. The new horse has a slight U neck so every time someone pulls back with that curb bit or hackamore bit his head goes up. One of the boys was riding with a snaffle but not using the principle of bend. Quarter horses have a none flexible vertebrae right behind the scull so you have not been forced to learn the principle of bend in any way. Clinton Anderson says " the key to vertical flexion is lateral flexion". When I finally got that through my head and began using it a whole new enjoyment in riding opened up for me. Now when I start a young horse using the principle of bend he will always learn to stop and turn without tossing his head. Sooooo since that new horse is not a runaway put a traditional hackamore on him and ride him two handed for years using pressure off the nose from the bosal. Remember bend the head around until the feet stop then release. Pretty soon when he feels pressure on his nose he will slow and stop. After he has learned stopping time to teach backing. Since he is a low energy horse this will be a little harder than with a horse that likes to go. With the feet stopped hold one rein and touch your spur to that side until he moves his hind quarters away from the spur. When he will move away from the spur both ways time to put pressure on both reins until he takes one step backwards. Pulling straight back with a curb bit will ruin him. If you have the desire to make something of him you can do it. Good luck and feel free to ask me any questions.

Hey Jerod, as much stuff as I kid you about, I scattered one of those on I-29 at 65 mph, not much warning. I'm in Miami with the you tube channel Iguana Solutions wrangling rouge iguanas in Fort Lauderdale FL. 78 degrees and these folk have stocking caps on and complaining it's cold, all you can do is chuckle to your self and wonder what they would do if they had a real job in the real world. Take care and be safe, and I'm waiting for the next video.

Good info on what to look for when buying a horse. My experience buying is different from yours. I found the professional horse traders who make the most of their income from selling above-average horses(nicer ones) were much more honest than the farmer/rancher or little ole lady with a family pet for sale.
