Wild Camping The Rob Roy Way | One Of Scotland's Great Trails

The Rob Roy Way runs for 79miles from Drymen to Pitlochry, following in the footsteps of Scotland's very own Robin Hood - Rob Roy himself. The path was created in 2002 as one of Scotland's Great Trails and is much quieter than the classic routes of the North such as the West Highland Way and the Great Glen Way, with only around 500 people completing the route each year. Abbie headed out to wild camp the route in September 2019, camping along the way. Their trip didn't quite go as planned, but the adventure was one they would remember with fondness.
00:00 - Intro
01:58 - Day One, Drymen to Callander
23:54 - Day Two, Callander to Balqhidder
41:05 - Day Three, Balqhidder to Loch Tay
1:02:08 - Day Four, Loch Tay to Aberfeldy
1:13:34 - Day Five, Aberfeldy to Pitlochry

I had an operation that went pretty bad. I then had corrective surgery that made it worse. I'm 55 and I cycled and walked my whole life out in the wilds. Watching your adventures and the lovely way you present them is a real joy. As unfortunately I am now disabled because of the bad operations. Watching your journeys is a way of keeping my mental health healthy. Thank you and All the best in all your endeavours.

“Doom & gloom (D&G).” Mainly from people trying to make sense of the world, and not succeeding very well. Some argue that D&G is simply realism; and that to refuse D&G makes one a ‘pretender.’ Abbie fights through that to keep a wee smile most of the time. Really lovely. Many here noticed that. Best of all is to accept Genesis 1:1’s interpretation of things. It’s deeply quieting, and enlivens nature even more!

My grandson has been begging his mom for a Highland cow poster and she put her foot down saying it was a waste of money and she did not want any cows in her very shabby chic home. He turns 13 in two weeks. I have kept his birthday theme a real secret, but you guessed it, it will be Highland cows! I ordered a framed poster of not only a cow, but of one with his tongue up his nose, his party hats are Highland Cow headbands, made with felt, chunky yarn and lots of giggling. It is tradition to decorate cupcakes and we all have Wilton Tip 233 and lots of brown and tan frosting. Highland cow trivia, Scottish food and even a game of "guess what is in the haggis" where you put your hand in the stocking and figure if the object you are touching is a toy solider or a barbie doll head. Having immersed myself in all things Highland Cow, I too am fully in love with them.

So glad I stumbled across this video; what a lovely person and what an incredible take on life for one so young - truly uplifting and sage in parts. I live on the edge of the Trossachs and enjoy getting out into it as often as I can but it's always good to find the viewpoint from elsewhere to truly appreciate what we have, right on our doorstep. Thank you Abbie for sharing this with us.

Abbie, thank you so very much for taking us on your adventures with you. Your professional presentation style, combined with your charismatic joy, makes each and every one of these a joy to watch from start to finish. As a fellow hiker, you capture some of the thoughts, revelations, and experiences that we all enjoy and have also figured out some way to decrease the concept of "the camera doesn't do it justice" with your filming. Again, thank you for being you!

Thank you so much Abbey for sharing your journey of the mind, heart, and spirit while walking through nature, our gift we created in oneness to bring the simplicity and example of what we are meant to do as we travers through our life. Enjoy the beauty of highs, lows, to breathe in all the colors of our "Rainbows' and to continue moving no matter the pain that sometimes raised its head to show us how truly fragile we are and to accept this. Respect to one's self comes to mind. Our World reflects are Journey. Thank you for sharing yours and the beauty of it all. I will start my journey soon. Being 73 years soon this is the gift I'm giving myself. I've already been buying and reading, asking for insights concerning each individuals experience. I hope that our paths cross one day and we too can share the wonder of our jouneys to each other in awe that we went to the end, no matter the difficulty. That pot of Gold is the Joy of knowing we took on the challenge and accomplished our goals with grace and dignity. Waiting for more stories of your adventures.😉 And again thank you.🤗

Many mentioned mental struggles here! Abby’s honesty probably helped here to open that door. W/o the Lord God of the Bible, I believe loneliness (and even despair) is totally rational. Still, the biblical way improves ‘’this’ in every way! If we read the gospels and just keep asking the right questions (like, WHO IS THIS JESUS?!?!) we can learn so much! Without his remediation, we are strange creatures indeed!

I really love your hikes, the history of the UK, and the landscapes are beautiful....

The first of your videos for me. Wow! It was a lovely trip and you were a perfect guide. I am one of those nerds who likes to use Google Maps and try to follow your route as you go. I really enjoyed it. At 55 minutes... that farmer probably tied up that gate because he has had less responsible hikers leave them open. Don’t take it personally. Most backpackers and bikepackers are superbly conscientious but it only takes a few to ruin it for everybody. Here’s hoping your knee heals up nicely.

Abbie you make me feel so good. I am with you all the way on this one, your chatter and happiness is so exhilarating to me the viewer. 22 years ago my son and I walked the railway track and stood on that viaduct before safety bars were installed, just a low wall one side and a shear drop the other. In the early days when steam engines huffed and puffed up that line hauling freight trains and passenger trains there used to be rock falls which blocked the line. So early in the morning they used to send a steam engine up on it's own to make sure the line was clear. 13 years ago when I was 70 years I peddled my cycle up Glen Ogle and cycled back along the railway track. This trip of yours brought it all back to me. thank you

Loved your hike on the Rob Roy Trail. But most of all really enjoyed your insights into personal connections to Nature .. Doesnt really matter where we are to find it but the wilderness affords us greater possibilities of success whether on a trail, river or ocean. I did a lot of hiking in my day and one quote I arrived at and think you might like is. "There are as many horizons as there are places to stand" ...... and then in thought.. and yet there is but one Earth on which to stand. From Earths central core perspective.. looking up to its surface from below.. there is only one horizon... a sphere or circle...All people's, races.. religions.. philosophies, and varied creatures of the World found together and connected through each center to Mother Earths as one..
