Wild Atlantic Way Road Trip Vlog Series - Downpatrick head [S1-E17]

Wild Atlantic Way Road Trip Vlog Series - Downpatrick head
In this episode we continue our tour along the Wild Atlantic Way south and leave Strandhill and travel towards Downpatrick's Head.
We stopped on the way to sample some traditional Irish Stew, the first since we started our Tour of Ireland in our Campervan 'Trudy'. It was seriously delicious and you must try this dish if you come to Ireland.
We entered County Mayo and arrive at Downpatrick's head - what a view. There was a great carpark to park up for the night. When we arrived the weather was wet and windy but in the morning the rain had eased and the sun was doing it's best to come out.
What a fabulous place - it was very dramatic scenery and had a sense of danger as you walked towards the edge of the cliffs.
Downpatrick head its self is a pinacle of land , separated from the mainland many years ago. What is amazing is that there used to be a settlement living on there. That all came to an end when the rope bridge collapsed.
Really beautiful views and a recommended stop when you tour the wild atlantic way
The Wild Atlantic Way is one of the longest designated coastal road trips in the world at over 2,500 km long. Our road trip of the Wild Atlantic Way started at the most Northern Point of Ireland - Malin Head and finished all the way at the bottom in the town of Kinsale.
The Wild Atlantic way is a road trip of a lifetime and that’s why we just had to do it and produce a travel series of vlogs of our experiences along this magical road. We saw beautiful and dramatic cliffs, stunning beaches, the best sunsets, met lots of lovely people, sung at a shanty festival and saw Ireland at it’s best. If you come to Ireland you must visit the Wild Atlantic Way - even if you can’t do the complete road trip just go and do part of it - absolutely awesome and what a road trip to start off our never ending journey around the Globe.
We hope you enjoy this episode of our Wild Atlantic Way Road Trip Vlog Series.

You guys make everything look so cosy. The Irish stew sure looked soul warming. Crazy story about the sea stack....cannot believe that there was a settlement there. Lush is by far one of the BEST descriptive words 👍

Especially in areas where the cliffs are mainly chalk ... because chalk crumbles ! (I'm addressing the people who aren't familiar with chalk cliffs, not Marianne and Chris)

That plane is an Irish Aer Corps (our Air Force) CASA CN235 Maritime Patrol aircraft. It is based just outside Dublin in Casement Aerodrome. They sometimes post amazing images from around our coastline, on social media.
