Seriously? I could just transfer without ANY CONCERN about the homebrew on my Wii? I thought it requiring to connect to the Internet was a security measure. Good news is that I can transfer to a Wii U no problem!

It is a security measure somewhat, but not an anti-homebrew one. It's to check for updates as well as ensure everything is correct with Nintendo's servers, like your Wii Shop Channel history.

Update: is it possible to use the tool with other region consoles? Like transfer data from a USA Wii to a Japanese Wii u?

If the next Nintendo console allows Nintendo Switch content, I hope that they do something like this, except this time, the characters from the game being transfered help out with the transferring process too.

How would that work? They do share games. But how would they turn into the deluxe or fury versions? And the switch uses cartridges. Not discs.

I think it works but im pretty sure wads could brick your vwii so i recommend taking them out

Put all the data on a sd card. Then use the sd card in the other Wii and put all or some of it on the console’s own NAND memory.

this is no longer possible right? can it be done with some sort of hack, now that the shop is down?

it’s still possible, even after the discontinuation of the Wii Shop channel and Wii U eShop Wii Shop channel still hosts the Wii U data transfer tool

The Wii shop channel did shut down in 2019 but it still gave the option to download some Zelda thing and the Wii System Transfer Tool but now the shop literally just gives an error. We don't really know how long it will take before it comes back online so you can get the transfer tool but for now we don't know

Weird. In that case, I would probably ensure both consoles are capable of running Wii homebrew and I would just install the transfer tools from a couple of WADs taken from vimm's lair.
