Yep...the Wii U ended up being a colossal failure in the end due to how underpowered it was, but doing an animation like this when any other company would've just had a progress bar, was really creative.

Yep you’re right. The tunnels and paths represent the wires on the Wii U’s circuit board while the Pikmin represent the electronic signals that travel through those wires, which is what the data is. Pretty cool!

I love how the last Purple Pikmin is seemingly too late to board the rocket to the Wii U, but then the ramp goes down anyway to let him in. Those Pikmin must not want their friend to get left behind and eaten by any predators that may exist in the Wii's data.

Paper Luigi lol yeah. It would just be a pile of one pellets that half your Pikmin carry to an onion to reproduce and store the seeds in the onion then then Olimar and the Koppaites almost forgot Louie and another yellow carrying a pellet. Both make it safely. Then they crash and the onion shoots all those seeds out and walk to the onion and ship while escaping Bulborbs. Then they make a home, the end.

I have an idea You have to protect the pikmin from spoopy things like the piranha plants A swarm of goombas Badniks And you have a blaster to destroy them If you let a pikmin get hit the pikmin holding the save data will drop it and rush to pick it up If it gets hit once more it goes faster to pick it up If it takes one more hit it will give up on getting it and stay there until the transfer is completed Once it is complete a pikmin will notice that one of the data is missing and will go find the other pikmin to help it pick up the dropped save data

I love this! Nintendo is really the only gaming company that would go out of their way to being so much life and fun into what would otherwise be a boring and tedious task.

I swear that this system transfer was the greatest thing Nintendo ever did. I don't remember how long it took for me because I had a lot of save data from my Nintendo Wii and that's including Virtual Console games but seeing this was amazing. And what better Nintendo mascots to carry over the data than the Pikmin. That was just clever.

That is one example for when I say that nintendo lost their charm with the switch era. No music in the shop, no costum designs, miis are practically dead, no quirky little animations like this anymore.

I really want this to be a reference in a bonus level of a Pikmin game. It's such an amazing thing thinking how the Pikmin are literally in the system walking around in one giant machine.

so, instead of a boring screen waiting for the data transfer they put pikmins, amazing!

I love how on the Wii U’s animation, the Pikmins go around different parts of the system, e.g. the fans. Nice touch!

I like this little animation, knowing that I already transferred my data from the Wii to the Wii U. It brings life to what would be a long task.

Imagine you're someone who hasn't ever heard of pikmin in your whole life, and you try transfering data from Wii to Wii U and all of a sudden instead of a loading screen some random tiny creatures are seemingly stealing your game save files and putting them into their rocket ship.

I remembered that when I did the transfer from wii to Wii U, it took a few hours (50+ games)

I'm really sad that we don't have things like this cute little animation on Switch :( I miss all the little guys we had on the 3DS and Wii U that were so memorable, like everyone remembers Salesbunny from StreetPass/Arcade Bunny from Ntdo Badge Arcade, or even Nikki, the Mii girl who posted letters. Goddamn I also miss the Ntdo eShop bag with legs and a smile and the downloading animation on 3DS (the one with points being released into the game's icon) Please Nintendo, bring them all back (or give them remarkable descendents)

You can never see this on the switch, or any new consoles nowadays, really shows how the 2000’s and early 2010’s companies enjoys adding small stuff to their stuff

Thanks for capturing/uploading this! It's incredibly cute and interesting, and given that it's from a transfer utility from two dead platforms, it absolutely had the potential to be lost media. How cool!

Such a interesting device, not only do pikmin live within, but rabbitz are inside my wii controllers aswell

I remember doing this years ago and being transfixed on the music and animation. Only Nintendo can make transferring data a beautiful experience.

Imagine having this on the Switch, but the Wii U área is old and dusty because there's no one using it, then they arrive to the Switch and everything is beautiful and new

We don’t get stuff like this anymore since the switch.

I almost cried from happiness when I first saw this transfer screen. It's altogether fitting that the last thing I do on my Wii is accompanied by the friends from my favorite game of all time, which I had played to death on the system (GC backwards compatibility). And it's like the Pikmin are migrating from the wii to the wii u, just like we are. Pikmin 3 is coming up, after all. So I say, goodbye old friend, and hello new opportunities :)

Is anybody going to talk about how fast the transfer happened on the Wii side lol

It is because a lot of the data was on the SD card already. On the Wii U side, all of the data had to be moved out.

Aah good times with brawl. GOODBYE WII!!!! I LUV U!!!!!!!!

Pikmin is secretly Nintendo's favorite child

1:04 the fact that when the transfer is finished in the background but the animation is STILL playing makes the pikmin go faster with the whistle sound olimar makes when he moves pikmin around in a line instead of just cutting off the animation with a fade to white to show the end result just goes to show the absolute GODS of attention to detail nintendo really is

10 years later, i get this recommendation.

They didn't had to do a whole animation for the transfer, on both consoles' sides. But they did anyway. Nintendo is one of the few that really puts a lot of attention to details, even in spite of what they've become these days.

To bad the Switch can't do something like that, mainly because it's only capable of using small cartridges and not discs. Bummer. :(

It won't happen, because the Switch isn't backwards compatible with the Wii U. If that were to not be the case though, I'd want them to either use Pikmin or maybe make a minigame!

Everything from the music to the presentation it’s so comfortable. I’ll never forget sitting in front of my tv patiently waiting for my data to transfer over, always good to be Nintendo fans!

This is true beauty. I cried.

I wish I knew about this when I first got my Wii U. I not only would have been able to transfer my Wii data to my Wii U, but I would have also been able to watch this amazing animation too.

I only came here to watch the pikmin carry things

For something a very select number of people will only see one time, they went hard as hell on this animation

I did this a couple months ago and I literally was like “ohhhh they’re so cuteeee!!”

Why did they make this look so cool

"Thank you for being a part of the Wii adventure. We hope you will have an equally enjoyable experience on the Wii U." ...or so it could have been.

I love when Pikmin show off data transfer, it's such a cute detail that anyone can appreciate and enjoy. It's makes the process way less boring.

I'm really gonna miss ANYBODY giving this much charm to their games.

This is honestly my favorite loading animation that I have ever seen

Wii U was such an underrated gem
