    You are a great teacher I bought the same airconditioner and I put it on top of flat service nightstand . Made 4 hole on the nightstand for the wheels to fit inside it so the airconditioner doesn't slide off. The I bought plastic tubing and connected it to the drain and the other side into a 5 gallon bucket. Now I don't worry about it draining on the floor in case I forget or it shut off

    Thank you so much for the informative, entertaining and "user friendly" video. I am waiting for my whole unit to arrive, and I'd like to add that a filter intake "add-on" screen here in Montreal,Canada, is $68 (taxes included), so I know your pain for the price of a piece of mesh/hard plastic. I actually called Whynter and mentioned this exact issue and all they said was, "I'm sorry sir, that piece is only sold as a separate attachment". I am wondering though, if it's a good idea to buy 2 more for the outside vent holes (am I crazy, maybe but this a/c seems to be an investment for (hopefully) years to come).... and I'd be assured no bugs for sure; the question is, will they attach to the outdoor vent openings? Anyway, great video Woopnik, and I've subscribed. 🙂 Chris Montreal, Canada

    M. Woopnik, in order to properly dehumidify a room, do you need to unscrew both window «tubes» (for lack of a better word) from ARC-14SH unit? Do both window tubes push air OUTSIDE or does one tube push air INSIDE while the other pushes air OUTSIDE and do these tubes play a role in dehumidifying a room? Questions asked because my sister is not yet impressed with the dehumidifying function of this unit...THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY INFO...:-)

  • @Woopnik

    Hello amcpower. As with every portable air conditioner with two hoses, one hose is pushing out air while the other one is taking in air. Yes you need to vent in either mode. The de-humidity setting uses the moisture it removes to cool the condenser. It is basically in A/C mode on low. The humidity extracted in the form of condensate is vented out of one of the hoses. It is used as a cooling aid for the condenser which turns it back to vapor. So if you don’t vent it you are accomplishing nothing. You will be recycling the same moisture.

    How on earth do you remove the intake filter. I need to wash mine. I followed the brief instructions that are next to the filter on a sticker but it won’t budge. And when I checked the outtake ( I’m assuming that’s what it is called) to see how far the little tab moved…it snapped off and fell down into the machine. I was being careful too. Can’t believe how easily it broke off! Anyway…it’s getting hot in my part of the world and I would like to get my machine ready for use. But I absolutely cannot get the intake filter off!

    Hi my Portable AC doesn't cool at all. Its seems to throw regular air like a fan. what do you think might be wrong with it? I watched your video and changed the Air filters but no change :/

  • @Woopnik

    @Woopnik

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hi Valdez. It is possible that the ambient temperature is too high. Portable air conditioners work by pushing cool air into a room and venting hot air, through the units compressor, to the outside. This constant venting can cause a pressure imbalance that will pull in warm air from other parts of the house. To solve this, make sure any doors to the room are closed. If the room receives a lot of sun, be sure to cover the windows with curtains or shades. Another possibility is that the culprit may be a refrigerant leak in your system. Freon is a refrigerant, or coolant, which helps your AC unit evaporate its internal heat and allows the air is expels to actually be cool. With a central AC you can fix the leak and replace the coolant. But with a portable AC that is different. They often do not have charging ports fitted. Also if it is short of refrigerant it must be leak tested and repaired prior to recharging. You would need so many supplies to fix that and invest lots of time to do that. You also might need a permit to handle refrigerant, depending on your local laws. If the loss of refrigerant is the problem then, in my opinion, it would be cheaper to buy a new unit.

  • @Woopnik

    Hello Angel, thank you for watching my video. Have you extended the exhaust hose with another hose? The unit can ONLY be used with the included exhaust hose (dryer type exhaust hoses will cause the unit to over heat). How close is the unit to the wall? If the unit is only inches away from the wall and you are running the exhaust hose out a window, more than likely their exhaust hose bend is at 90 degrees which restricts air flow. In order for the unit to run more efficiently and not overheat, it should be at least 1-1/2 feet away from the wall and the exhaust hose should not exceed more then a 45 degree angle. Are you exhausting the unit out a hole in the wall? If so, are you using a flap vent on the exterior of your home/office? The flap may be too rigid and not open continuously. The compressor is not strong enough to push the air through and therefore will only run for a short period of time before overheating and shutting off. You should take the flap off the vent and replace it with a piece of screening.

    109 degrees Fahrenheit? This is a lot of heat for every air conditioner. When the ambient temperature is too high, it can cause insufficient cooling. If the ourside temperature is extremely high, the air conditioner may not be able to generate enough cold air to cool the room. Sunlight can also heat a room faster than your portable air conditioner can cool it. If temperature keeps rising, check for leaks and close the blinds. It may be enough to swing things the other way.

    The Whynter dual hose portable air conditioner comes with one air intake hose and one air exhaust hose, the air intake hose pulls air into the portable air conditioner from the outside to cool off the compressor and condenser coil. The hot air generated from the air conditioner is then expelled out the exhaust hose. When temperatures begin to warm uncomfortably, you may feel tempted to purchase an air conditioning unit as quickly as possible just to get comfortable. You will enjoy better results, however, as you take time to research the different options and compare the benefits and drawbacks of those options. In fact, the best time to make this decision is probably before the red on the thermostat starts to rise. With time to do some research and take measurements, you’ll be able to get the air conditioning system you want in place before there’s any chance of being uncomfortable. I might have misunderstood your question in case you wonder what I am talking about. If this is the case please let me know more in detail what your situation is. 😋

    Yes I don’t believe you understood what I was asking but no problem, I clarify... I was just wondering if it is normal for this AC exhaust hose to not constantly be blowing the warm air out window? The exhaust is on and off. With my single hose 6000btu arctic king ac, the exhaust hose is always blowing air out the window, even in fan mode still wind blowing out the exhaust hose. With this ARC-14SH AC, the exhaust hose is blowing out air on and off. Is this normal?

  • @Woopnik

    @Woopnik

    5 жыл бұрын

    No, this is not normal. Have you extended the exhaust hose with another? The unit can ONLY be used with the included exhaust hose (dryer type exhaust hoses will cause the unit to over heat). How close is the unit to the wall? If the unit is only inches away from the wall and you are running the exhaust hose out a window, more than likely their exhaust hose bend is at 90 degrees which restricts air flow. The compressor is not strong enough to push the air through and therefore will only run for a short period of time before overheating and shutting off. You should take the flap off the vent and replace it with a piece of screening. Are you venting the Whynter AC into a ceiling or basement? Does the ceiling or basement have ample ventilation? If the ceiling or basement does not have a way of pushing the heat from the exhaust to the outside, the unit will work for a short period of time and then eventually overheat and shut off. I hope that my short message will help you. Have a great long weekend.

    I’m using the AC in my van. I’m using the included intake and exhaust hoses. The hoses are not extended at all and not bent at all. The hoses go straight out the window so there’s no way for there to be a problem in that area. You sure it’s not normal? Seems like if it has an EER of 11.2 maybe it could be normal to come on and off

    Woop, my whynter AC is smelling like urine, how can I fix this?

  • @Woopnik

    @Woopnik

    4 жыл бұрын

    Most foul smells in a portable air conditioner are caused by bacterial growth or by mold and mildew growth. This is because air conditioners perform their function by removing moisture from the air, and as this moisture condenses inside the mechanism it provides a perfect growth environment for various types of mold and bacteria. The unit's various components can become dirty and moist, providing the perfect environment for bacteria or fungus to thrive. Smells range from a mild musty odor often related to mildew, to a rotten or spoiled food smell that indicates mold or bacteria growth. Without proper maintenance of the filters, coils, and drains, a portable air conditioner can become overrun with mold, but it is easily cleaned away in most cases. Monthly cleaning or replacement of these parts prevents the odor from returning. The key to eliminating odors is to find where the bacteria or mold infestation is located. There are three prime targets: the filter, the drain line, and the evaporator coil.

  • @Woopnik

    @Woopnik

    4 жыл бұрын

    First and foremost, you should clean the drain line. On portable ACs, the drain line is a tube that is located on the outer side of the unit. Find the pipe and clean it using the following instructions. Make a mixture of one part bleach in three parts water and clean the drain with it thoroughly. This will remove any mold, mildew or debris that might be causing the odor. Of course, if this doesn't cure the problem, you have to move on to the next step. Remove the lid of the portable AC and inspect the coils. Use a flashlight so you are easily able to spot debris, mold or anything else which may be causing the smell. Once you undo the lid, it will be quite clear to you whether the odor is coming from the inside of the air conditioner or not. Clean it thoroughly with a damp cloth to ensure that nothing is sticking to it. Change the air filter. Unless you put in a new filter recently, it is likely that the odor is being caused by the buildup of dust and debris on the air filter. In that case, the correct option is to replace the air filter and put in a new one. If it was causing the problem, the odor should go away in a matter of minutes.

    Be careful with cleaners. Do not use any harsh cleaners. Personally, I would use my judgment on this though. I am not sure how much you can get at the insides, but I would try and brush the coils with an old toothbrush and warm water with a drop of dish soap.
