Definitely finding an area with many restaurants that are diverse is important. I am fortunate to have a specific area not too far from home with about 30 different restaurants. I average about $23-25 an hour. On weekends can make $100-150 in about 4-5 hours guaranteed. I drive a 4 cyclinder vehicle so it works out very well with gas especially with the prices here in NYC

Me as well. There's a strip called State Street about 1/2 miles from my house which has about 15 restaurants and about 10 fast food places. I'll sit at home till I get that first good order to start my day. Then during slow periods I'll do Instacart to keep the money flowing. There's like 6 or 7 different grocery stores right there as well.

I just started working ubereats and my system has been to sit at home until an order arrives since im about 5-10 minutes away from diff restaurant clusters in three diff directions. Once I start driving around I'll usually get a handful of orders and once i make it home I consider that a break until UberEats finally gives me another order. Sometimes its 10 minutes later, sometimes its over an hour later, but this is a city of 80,000 people and im new so there aren't a whole lot of opportunities for me.

I sit in the same area every day, right outside the Potbelly sandwich shop. Every time I get an order from there, it's already sitting there ready, even if I've been sitting for 30 minutes with no orders. And sometimes the opposite is true. You travel to a restaurant and it's not ready yet.

Agreed. I clearly needed to pass on more orders based on what I now know. However it always kept me going nonstop for 8-10 hours. In fact, before I learned how to use the pause button in advance, I ran out of gas in a drive thru as the app wouldn't stop for 12 hrs straight. So embarrassing, and the McManager treated me like crap.

if i dont get a new order by the time I finish the last, I'll find a nearby parking lot and set a timer for 15 minutes. That timer seldom sounds before getting a new offer. If the timer does sound before I get that new order, I'll head home. But, since I live wayyyyyyy outside the area I deliver in, I'll wait until I'm out of the zones before turning the apps off (DD and UE are the only ones I do right now). Occasionally a new acceptable offer will come in before i get out of the zone. When that happens, I start the 15 minute process all over again. Some nights I end my shift around 9 or 10, but often the timer will keep me going till much later (headed home about 1AM this morning). my area is VERY small, though, so almost anyplace I park is near a so-called hotspot. When I first started doing food delivery I, too, would drive around waiting for a "hit". Often that "hit" would be in the opposite direction in which I was driving - an area I had just passed several minutes ago - so I'd have to hook a u-turn to get to the pickup. If I'd just parked someplace I would have been in position to head to a pickup in the direction I was traveling, and the pickup in the other direction. Saves me a ton of gas money since I started parking.

i noticed that the GPS has a big influence in the orders you get, in UBER's explanation about the app they say that the algorithm considers many factors two of them being the GPS indicating if you are driving or walking because this factor changes your ETA to the restaurant, i try to park in a spot that gives me about 4 or 5 minutes of walking to the restaurant it usually takes less obviously but for the app it seems very important, i also when i dont get any order in minutes i disconnect and reconnect, it also gives an order in less than 5 minutes

As a Uber biker I hardly bother with surge zones. Mostly I will sit at home and wait at 1st. Im lucky enough to have 6 busy restaraunts within 1km and 15 more within 2km of home. As a biker theyre prefect distance to get there when its ready. McDonalds for example is 500m away, its my busiest spot from home. Now when Im out and not busy I'll find a shady spot in a rural park to cool off and theres plenty along that 1 strip of shops and downtown core. It works perfect for me, I never wait at a shop it just never gives me work.

this what makes sense... i just drive for uber...and i always stay consistent as possible with my driving...what can throw things off is when uber sends me an offer when i am dropping off and its a pain to find...sometimes gps is way off etc and drop off takes an extra 10 mins to find... this is out of my control, but it has happened...we can only do our best... so its best to stay relaxed and just use everything you got to find that drop off... after over 700 drop offs i have never once left food in wrong location, but i have had a few drop offs take over 15 mins to find once gps said i was there...many times gps takes you to exit gate in large appartment complexes etc...the list of bs is long on why drop offs can be difficult...

Interesting comments and good video. Know your area = know your limits, memorize patterns (streets, habits, times, etc), understand the businesses (speed, prep, PARKING - avoid the crap), remember the customers that tip (service pros) and especially the ones that don’t (affluent and poor) -it’s a real demographic, frustrating apts get easier the second time around (unless they get banned for good reason), street flow is real, understand the habits of the clientele/traffic/locations… KNOW your area. Good luck - it’s a grind!

Good examples: Traffic flow: road construction, one way streets, no left turn, zero parking, etc. Business: not ready, make your own drink, poor packaging, sloppy/lazy/rude employees (fuk off), etc. Clientele: shit part of town, low to zero tip offer, bad apt, too far, CONSTRUCTION etc.. Time of day: slow is slow/rush hour is rush hour- change up or go home. Surges and some promotions are a joke to lure you in to shitty situations/time slots/areas (believe it).

Thank you for making this video cause I've seen some videos on "fishing" and "hunting" and never found "fishing" to be a good strategy. (If you don't know, "fishing" is staying in one spot for orders, and "hunting" is driving around). But this idea of being around a several clusters is great but it also depends on your city. I found for my strategy is to find clusters but start in one cluster and lily pad from one cluster to the next until I find my "monster" which is usually a 20 dollar order to a specific side of town in Atlanta (the place is East Point, they don't have great restaurants nearby and always want food and pay well). Basically I wait for a large order but settle for the small ones in my cluster until that area runs dry, then use an order to transfer to another cluster if possible. "Hunting" is better than sitting around doing nothing. But don't waste gas, earn money while going to another cluster by using Uber. Even if it is a 4-5 dollar order, it is better than traveling to a new site for free.

i do this. the area i work in consists of two small zones. Occasionally an order will send me from one zone into the other. I usually don't accept it unless it pays at least $2 per mile. BUT, if one area appears to be busier than the other, I will accept a smaller rate just to get to the other zone (indicated by the "hotspot" which tends to be very accurate in the town I work). I typically will not go less that $1 per mile, though. I consider driving unpaid miles as deadheading, and deadheading is a bad word.

I think they match up doubles based on those times more than anything. In my area we have a very popular sushi spot for food delivery. A group of guys have decided to sit outside the front door at one of their tables. I used to get nice orders from there, a couple a day with $20-30 tips. Now sitting in my car parked at the street or driving around it, nothing. I get one a month maybe even though I work the area a lot. Proximity is still largely king. This isn't the only location I see stuff like this at either. But their coordinated effort basically has destroyed it for everyone else. Personally though the restaurant has priority and can't be paired with other restaurants on a double or triple. So splitting all orders that are singles that are often longer deliveries between a group of people doesn't make a lot of sense to me to maximize profits.

I drive in South Florida...mostly Ubereats and Doordash. I think you're on to something! I find I get more order offers when I'm moving around and not sitting in a parking lot. But, right now gas is to expensive to waste it to just cruise around when you're not on a delivery. I've been trying out different locations in busy areas...not neccesarily right by a busy restaurant. One issue to this algorithm is that I believe restaurants say the food is ready when it isn't... I usually experience wait times from 5-20 minutes at most restaurants around here... very rarely is the food ready when I get there! I’m probably in the worst area, in terms of how many drivers there is; there is a lot. I live in San Jose CA, and everybody orders food here. I’ve done it all, drive around, park in busy parking lots with loads of restaurants around said parking lots, parked near the most popular restaurants, and I even live in a busy area with 20 or more restaurants in a less then 3mile radius. I started 4 days ago, and being online for 10rs now, I’ve made less than $150

regarding the 10-15 minute wait - i had an order and pay delivery order. i arrive at the restaurant, ask how long it'll take (10 minutes was the estimate) and proceeded to pay. it took about 30 minutes before the food was actually ready. since i paid for this order (using uber's card) should i have unassigned and moved on? the order was paying a very good price and UE orders are few and far between in my area, but they pay much better than DD. So, reassigning would have meant wasting 15 minutes, unassigning, thus losing the high payout, MAYBE getting $3 from Uber ($3 for driving to the restaurant plus the 15 minutes before unassigning) and having to wait another 20-30 for another Uber order (not an exaggeration in my area). FYI the payout on this order was more than I make hourly from DD.

I’m sure their algorithms are similar in some ways. Close to the restaurant is certainly good but being directly next to it vs 3/4 minutes away won’t help on UberEats.

I can tell you right off the bat that I sit in front of my highest paid restaurants every day and watch car after car Uber drivers go in and take orders I've even sat inside the restaurant watching other people get orders while I don't and I didn't have one. So I can completely call b******* . Unless it's not BS and what's really going on is a connection issue or their app is not workings right

The way they're lining that up is so ignorant. So they think that because I don't want to wait for an order, which I don't, I would rather just take no orders and have other people get them over me that are further away from the restaurant I'm sitting in front of. How f****** stupid. You know a lot of these things could be done with if they would put some simple filters on their app. I understand why they haven't but I think they could put some kind of generalized ones on there for people

I think it's hilarious that their software is so tricked out that it can track the beads of moisture on a sliced onion from space, but they still can't figure out a way to know what their venture partners' business hours are. Could it be that it's because the driver takes the full hit for time and gas when they drive 19 miles and the restaurant's been closed for three hours...and that's always been their regular schedule? Uber sure is content to let Lil' Billy, the town 3 year old with a head injury, handle that particular section of their cutting edge software code.

This info was valuable BEFORE Uber changed their strategy. Now, they have admitted to giving orders to the "closest wheels" which mean bike or car..........supposedly. But they also have strategized in #1...giving CARS priority over bikes...and totally excluding the "walking mode" which was popular in denser cities. So now, even though bikers may be closer, a car may be given priority first. They keep not wanting to admit to doing this, but it's obvious since bikers have seen their revenue greatly drop. Also---Uber is moving toward pushing drivers to do both passengers AND deliveries. This is why we saw so many incentives being given to pax/delivery people in the past, which no one else was getting. There is a lot of stuff going on in the background that isn't talked about publicly and you have to read between the lines of what comes out the CEO's mouth. Clustering was NEVER a good idea because WHO is going to get the ping when everyone is jammed up together? Especially around busy McDonalds and other fast food. I constantly see bikers and drivers just sitting in these areas and if I actually ride around "near" the area I sometimes get a ping while they are still waiting.

I think it really depends on which bucket UE or any other app puts you in, high AR reliable driver or low/really low AR reliable driver. All you said would be true for the first bucket and may not be true for the second. I'm def the second with UE and they will send me a high payout offer when I'm literally right there at the restaurant. I do about 5 orders a week with UE and make about 70 bucks and I could drive around for 2 hours during dinner shift and never get a UE order. BTW, say if DD is number one in your market, I think becoming a top dasher would make you the most money but of course, you may drive more miles and deal with a lot of nonsense while a low ar driver/ cherry-picking driver would have that sense of controlling. BTW, from the way you deliver these videos over the years, I think you really have that entrepreneur mindset instead of reading or 'analyzing' DD's stockmarket or FCC earnings report or whatever you call that thing like some other channels. So stupid :)
