Again excellent info Jeff! The plan we talked about with pulling summer food is working excellent down at the triple B here in SW Wisco. I have seen the same info over the last few years with the hidden hunting plot, and buck movements in late July and in Aug. If I have them on cam then they will be on th eland for the season I have had very few that I have not been in the movement or area in the hunting season. So much great info in 10 min Jeff great job. Wish I could have made the kicking bear event but we will be coming back from Canada for spring bear that day! Have a great day.

Seeing this trend on my property too. I’m letting the bucks eat the neighbors manicured alfalfa and summer forest forbs barely seeing them right now. But come fall with fall planted plots they all seem to come out of the woodwork, had around 22 bucks show up come Nov 1. Big ones only showed up a couple times in the summer in velvet then came back around looking for those does when I was in the stand.

I only have small bucks all summer but come end of August and September big bucks will start visiting the feeders in the evening until October 1st and then just does, fawns and young guy's. But come November the big boys show up looking for love ❤️ Late season after the rut big guy's will start coming to feeders and my small food plots trying to recover from the rut. I know where the big guy's summer and most are in the fall but i just leave them alone, they'll follow the girls when time 😊

Back in the early 90's, long before anyone around here were using trail cams ( northern Indiana ), I lived next door to a very successful big buck killer. He told me the exact same thing about summer buck habitat / vs fall habitat. I'd always rush to his house to tell him about some buck I'd found during the summer time months in some field and how I was gonna kill it. He'd just shake his head and explain to me why that likely wouldn't happen. But being young, I ignored him and continued to struggle ......that is until I wised up and started listening to him. Then things changed! Hahaha.

Pretty awesome! The trick is to figure out why they move...and then you have unlocked a critical deer habitat and hunting design strategy.

I’ve watched all his videos and he consistently says this about summer cameras. I see it on my property every year but it just doesn’t seem to add up to me why. I hunt the thickest river bottom you can imagine and a mile from river bottoms is ag. All summer there’s bucks, then they disappear. But where could they possibly go when it’s the thick bedding cover which would be desired in the fall?

Hi Cooper! It really depends on food for bucks. If they have great Fall food somewhere else and it is unpressured within a couple of miles, they will find it. Especially an older buck. Also if there is summer food on your land the bucks are going after, you can easily have too many does and bucks will leave for less stressful habitat with more of a balance of food and cover. Bucks leave Summer hangouts because of too many does, and better, unpressured food somewhere else. They also leave because of hunting pressure. So many practice no hunting pressure during the off season, only to apply way too much pressure during the season. Too many does, better food elsewhere and hunting pressure. Any one of those will cause bucks to leave...many have all 3 working against them. They will usually come back during the rut, but you never want to create a rut-only parcel. Also, if you aren't highly critical of why they leave in the first place (there is always very good reason(s)) then you will have far fewer bucks even during the rut. Afterall...they are leaving for a reason, so why come back? Especially if they leave for hunting pressure...they often don't come back. Gas ATVs can kill a property alone, in a situation like that. Who knows...but there is always a reason.

@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 Greatly appreciate the response! I hear you discuss all of these topics consistently in your videos for years and believe it to a T. Im sure you are familiar with river bottom deer habitat, and for context Nebraska river bottoms. It seems that with endless ag fields for miles and does every 100 yards along the river that regardless of if you are on the property I hunt or on the neighbor properties it is more does than you know what to do with and endless food sources. I can say hunting pressure is a fault I work on. You have always said not to have a rut property and I plan on watching every video and doing what I can to change as that is exactly what I have. Thanks again for the response, love the education you provide

I definitely don’t worry about not having them in the summer but I kinda like them using the property here and there in the summer time that way they can establish a pattern of use

Amen Drew! I love to get those glimpses. Especially when they are at a particular stand, mock scrape, waterhole, etc where you expect to hunt them in the Fall

In mixed ag I see a mile to 1.5 miles pretty consistently. In big woods it could be miles... When we drive around our home we figure any buck we see within a mile and a half during the summer, we have a pretty good chance of shooting during the Fall
