I am not mechanically inclined and I always looked to my older brother for help when it came to advice about cars and now I can no longer do that. My brother passed away August 10 of 2021. I came across your video and watched it so that way I can teach myself how to do small fixes. I'll have to watch several time's to grasp the concept of putting everything back where it needs to be. Wish me luck in getting my breaks fixed.

@@BudgetMechanicHawaii Hello, i have a question and i think you know the answer. :) About that grinding audio sample from video... Few days ago i was stuck in a mud. I was trying to get out and the car was all in mud. Everywhere.. Brakes, callipers, discs, springs, shocks... I washed it 10 hours later and everything was ok. Next day i started the car and when i startto move slowly i heard EXACTLY that sound from your video for about 20 seconds of driving. Now every time when i sit in the car the same thing happens, few seconds of that sound and than ok. Any idea? Thank you.

Just wanted to add my experience to help anyone trying to diagnose problems. The second noise (the one at 6:36) was similar to the sound we heard from the front brakes of our vehicle. We brought it into the shop to get new brake pads on warranty and the mechanic said that the brake pads were gone. Like, he graded them at the 0 percentage. He said we shouldn't have really been driving on them. The grinding had also damaged the rotors a little bit so the two front rotors were replaced (they had already been resurfaced previously due to a different brake issue so we had to replace this time). Just my experience with the noise and the result. Good luck with your vehicles, folks!

The groaning sound occurring in the morning when first driving the vehicle could be due to the brakes being cold and possibly sticking slightly. As the brakes warm up and are used, the noise may diminish, which could explain why it disappears after driving for a short distance

Here is a condition I experienced. 1st off, 47yrs driving, I always do my own brake work. I installed Posi-quiet heavy duty metallic pads because my Sienna was not stopping well with the trailer loads I was pulling across NJ A few months after I finished trailering my brakes were lightly squeaking just rolling. The dust from the metallic pads rusted the caliper traveler pins to my calipers, causing my pads to constantly rub the rotor. I installed new caliper pin kits and POWER STOP Evolution ceramic pads last year. The pads cost $8 than Posi-quiet premium pads. The Evolution pads are designed to replace OEM They exceeded my expectations

The sound makes you freak out. I thought my whole tire was about to collapse.

I had a squeak/grind sound at the end of breaking. 1st my front left, changed wheels to the front right, then moved to the rear. I checked the front pads and they weren't worn down. If the pads are glazed or pitted, maybe I can use sandpaper to remove the glazed brake surface, unless glazing compromises the entire pad all the way through.

Very informative thank you. The squeaking started first for like a week and then went away. Didnt think anything of it. 2 weeks later starting doing that grinding noise in the front of my car. Not sure if front wheel drive makes it wear down faster than rear but i think its def my pads. No wheel vibration just a nasty grinding noise from the front even when reversing turning the wheel.

I removed the pad added some grease and put the whole thing back together and voila no more scraping noises. Amazing what such little things can do. Now today after a long day of bumpy roads and hard driving the front left makes scraping noises at low speeds. I hope it's just the backing plate but if not I'll just repeat the process Ive done to the rear brake

The problem I have is the sound of opening a door in cold weather or a blizzard, like you would hear in an old movie. Seems like it could be rotor or rust issues.

For 14 years since i have my main car I always had brake issues. First was a sticking caliper. Then those thin metal parts holding the pads broke from the heat and rubbing against the rotor. When i changed the pads for new Ferodo Premier one was melted away wile i was driving downhill. I changed those for Pagid and the steering wheel begin to wobble a lot because never got friends with the rotors i had. I changed for expensive ATE going bad in two months because they were fake junks. Then Nipparts. Wobbling in less than a year. Now i have Valeo brakes. Finally the steering wheel doesn't shake but squeal like hell and i feel like rotors are lubricated and i can't firmly stop
