I am not mechanically inclined and I always looked to my older brother for help when it came to advice about cars and now I can no longer do that. My brother passed away August 10 of 2021. I came across your video and watched it so that way I can teach myself how to do small fixes. I'll have to watch several time's to grasp the concept of putting everything back where it needs to be. Wish me luck in getting my breaks fixed.

@@BudgetMechanicHawaii Hello, i have a question and i think you know the answer. :) About that grinding audio sample from video... Few days ago i was stuck in a mud. I was trying to get out and the car was all in mud. Everywhere.. Brakes, callipers, discs, springs, shocks... I washed it 10 hours later and everything was ok. Next day i started the car and when i startto move slowly i heard EXACTLY that sound from your video for about 20 seconds of driving. Now every time when i sit in the car the same thing happens, few seconds of that sound and than ok. Any idea? Thank you.

Just wanted to add my experience to help anyone trying to diagnose problems. The second noise (the one at 6:36) was similar to the sound we heard from the front brakes of our vehicle. We brought it into the shop to get new brake pads on warranty and the mechanic said that the brake pads were gone. Like, he graded them at the 0 percentage. He said we shouldn't have really been driving on them. The grinding had also damaged the rotors a little bit so the two front rotors were replaced (they had already been resurfaced previously due to a different brake issue so we had to replace this time). Just my experience with the noise and the result. Good luck with your vehicles, folks!

Going through that rn unfortunately I can only handle the pads this week, so I just need to keep the car in town with family but thankfully it's doesn't sound like it's end of the world since I'm up in Buffalo and it's getting into the bad part of winter so a lot of snow could kill me
Thanks for helping us out. Now i know what's the weird sound coming out when i step on my brake.
This was very informative and you explained in a way that us car illiterate folks can understand . Thank you I appreciate the time you took to add the squeak and grind sounds as well! 👍🏾
The groaning sound occurring in the morning when first driving the vehicle could be due to the brakes being cold and possibly sticking slightly. As the brakes warm up and are used, the noise may diminish, which could explain why it disappears after driving for a short distance
Sound samples were really helpful man, really appreciate your work. Thanks
What fantastic, clear explanations! I was looking for a better understanding of my brake pads Ihave just had changed and also my discs soon to be changed. I wanted to understand how they wear down and which parts exactly as I was given a photo of my brake discs I need to have changed soon. The sounds are a brilliant addition and you are just so clear in how you describe everything. THANK YOU!!!
Dude, you are great. Thx for helping the helpless like me.

Here is a condition I experienced. 1st off, 47yrs driving, I always do my own brake work. I installed Posi-quiet heavy duty metallic pads because my Sienna was not stopping well with the trailer loads I was pulling across NJ A few months after I finished trailering my brakes were lightly squeaking just rolling. The dust from the metallic pads rusted the caliper traveler pins to my calipers, causing my pads to constantly rub the rotor. I installed new caliper pin kits and POWER STOP Evolution ceramic pads last year. The pads cost $8 than Posi-quiet premium pads. The Evolution pads are designed to replace OEM They exceeded my expectations
Exactly what I was look for, thanks for the tips, very helpful including the sounds makes real perfect.
Excellent breakdown for someone who knows just a little about brake problems!
When you hit the category of brake glazing it made sense cause those are the symptoms of the car so thank you sir!
Bro. Super informative video. Solved my issue without having to ask a shop.
This was an excellent presentation. I appreciate all the information you provided.
Wish this guy was my mechanic, so informative. Love the video
So glad came across this video. That grinding is exactly how my rear driver wheel sounds but combine that with like a click. I have no idea what it is because we took the pads off and they looked fine. But it happened exactly how u said too one day jus fine the next all of a sudden while driving. The sound makes you freak out. I thought my whole tire was about to collapse.
Super helpful! Looks like I need new pads.
love your page and how clear your message is and you actually show us instead of just talking thank you !

Been hearing a very faint squeak when I DON’T push the brakes, goes away when I do. I knew that brake pads had a warning indicator but I wondered if that’s what I was hearing. I clicked on this video hoping to get some answers and sure enough, you answered my question exactly. Thanks!

Thanks mate the speaking got me today when not applying the brakes and went quiet when I press them so like you said this mean I need new brake pads, good tutorial learned alot thanks again
Wow. Incredibly easy on the eyes and such a good explanation. Thank you! 😍
I think you answered my question! Grinding in the rear of a 2011 MINI COOPER S R60 I just got and the pads have plenty of meat! The previous owner must have ridden the ebrake! Getting new pads to see if it goes away. Thank you!
Thanks! I did my brakes a while ago and forgot, since I did so much work on my old car--ARG! I will listen for the sounds and get new pads if it continues.
Thank you! I love the way you break this down, with the sounds included.... Welp! off to get these break pads replaced, I found out the problem. 😁

Helpful video. Simple but well explained. Very informative. Appreciate including the actual noise. 🎉
Wow a video about car noise.... And he actually included the noises.. that's amazing.
I had a squeak/grind sound at the end of breaking. 1st my front left, changed wheels to the front right, then moved to the rear. I checked the front pads and they weren't worn down. If the pads are glazed or pitted, maybe I can use sandpaper to remove the glazed brake surface, unless glazing compromises the entire pad all the way through.
I'm quite sure my Volvo just needs a brake pad replacement....Thank you for that reassurance that my baby is okay Budget Mechanic 100%
Yes the sounds helped a lot I def have a grinding noise idk how my car isn’t even a year since I got it but def helped out a lot

Now I've got to find a video on how to change my rear rotors and rear brake pads on both sides on my 2000 Ford expedition 4.6L V8 Triton XLT so wish me luck.😏
Thanks a lot, mate! Very detailed explanatin.
Great video thanks much , I installed back breaks drum and I have an intermittent squeaking since it snowed here in in Cleveland area
brake calipers make sounds too if the pistons are worn or if it doesn't apply well or doesn't get hydraulic fluid to move it
Thanks for the information. I just had my break pads changes 2 weeks ago, I believe the guy probably did a rush job and my car in making that noise.
I have a 2021 Chevy Trailblazer and the way you explained glazed break pads sounds like what I’m dealing with! I have taken my car to 4 Chevy dealers and a outside mechanic but they said everything is fine. I have loud squeaking/squealing noise mainly in the morning when I first drive my car.

Very helpfull for us the beginner/nonmechanic guys.
Thanks for this. I think I need to have my brakes checked.
Very informative thank you. The squeaking started first for like a week and then went away. Didnt think anything of it. 2 weeks later starting doing that grinding noise in the front of my car. Not sure if front wheel drive makes it wear down faster than rear but i think its def my pads. No wheel vibration just a nasty grinding noise from the front even when reversing turning the wheel.
Extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Thanks!
Perfect explaining!
Grinding also happens when the rotors cover bends inward and hits the front part of the calipers making it grind against the rotors itself 💭

Top shelf video, thanks mate, learnt heaps. Cheers. Thanks for your explanation of the glazing effect so well. My Corolla does this constantly and I live in quite a 'hilly' area where I am often on the brakes as I am driving down the hill so I keep to the speed limit.

now this is how u explain stuff to people who dont know. now i know the 2nd one is my current issue. so pads are gone and rotors may need replacement , im getting the scraping sound.
Very simple explanation, and very good information. Thank u!
Damn. My break pad is scraping the rotor, thank you for this
nicely explained, thanks
it helps a little but my grinding sound is a little bit different. When I press my brakes I only heard a somewhat girding sound when I'm completely stopped and I press the brake in more

Yeah..that true,my sister car always making noise when reversing her car every morning, this problem last for years, after checking by a trusted mechanic,he find out the previous mechanic forgot the retainer clip on right side
Good video! Had a full brake job recently on my mustang and the right rear grinded quite a bit. I removed the pad added some grease and put the whole thing back together and voila no more scraping noises. Amazing what such little things can do. Now today after a long day of bumpy roads and hard driving the front left makes scraping noises at low speeds. I hope it's just the backing plate but if not I'll just repeat the process Ive done to the rear brake

Thanks Brother
This video is great! My front wheels have been squeaking for ages.. it started when pressing the brakes but then started happening when not braking but stopped when pressing the brakes.. then today it started making a scraping sound. I'm guessing I've worn my brakes right down? :/
The problem I have is the sound of opening a door in cold weather or a blizzard, like you would hear in an old movie. Seems like it could be rotor or rust issues.
Super helpful.thanks!
Great video! Simple and direct to the problem. 👍

Hi
Thank you!
Thanks brother very helpful.
For 14 years since i have my main car I always had brake issues. First was a sticking caliper. Then those thin metal parts holding the pads broke from the heat and rubbing against the rotor. When i changed the pads for new Ferodo Premier one was melted away wile i was driving downhill. I changed those for Pagid and the steering wheel begin to wobble a lot because never got friends with the rotors i had. I changed for expensive ATE going bad in two months because they were fake junks. Then Nipparts. Wobbling in less than a year. Now i have Valeo brakes. Finally the steering wheel doesn't shake but squeal like hell and i feel like rotors are lubricated and i can't firmly stop
So glad I came here,thx
