WHY YOU STRUGGLE WITH CHIPPING-Best short game mechanics ever!

Спорт

We at Wisdom in Golf are very juiced at knowing we are the ones who are HISTORICALLY CORRECT and came out with “dual kinetic chain chipping, pitching and full swing” techniques as this is the essential way the human machine goes about executing tasks. All of you Chili Dip chipping, chunking chips, topping and skulling chips, and shanking chips are all part of the same family of manipulating the club to meet a ball instead of letting the weight of the arm-wedge unit perform the task of swinging freely through the stem of the dandelion towards the spot where you want to land the ball. KNOWING HOW YOUR MACHINE WORKS IS KEY!!
All these shots will melt away when you finally settle into what you were meant to do as a human with a golf club, an ax, a hammer, a grass whip, or a scythe. We cannot be on the same manipulative system as dentists and surgeons, which would cause the body to cease up and force our arms to fold up against our bodies like a cheap tent! The human-machine is brilliant at both systems. You just need to choose the right one for chipping!

    Shawn, I discovered your video series a couple of weeks ago after searching for instruction online for a couple of months. Wow, terrific! After a few videos I heard you mention Royal Quebec Golf club - I'm like this guy is Canadian! Then I realized you have the RBC logo on your shirt - I realized they are a sponsor (I'm an employee)... It was meant to be! Your feel based approach is so superior to what is being taught out there right now. Everybody is teaching a result rather than teaching the feeling to obtain the result. Golf season is done in Canada until spring...looking forward to getting out on the course.

    Dave Pelzs. plays the ball back behind the rear foot in his chipping stance. It is a very effective method for hitting out of divots. Raymond Floyd plays the ball in the middle of the stance and used the words " chip like you putt ". I found both methods work very well. I like to use both methods dictated by the lie and desired ball trajectory . The two keys that I found to be of importance are sternal notch awareness and maintaining the lower case " y" formed by the arms and club shaft thru the stroke. I wish Martin would retire and that's no "rubbish". Shawn that last analysis is paying off big time. Much deeper hip turn resulting in improved ball compression. Nice color coordination guys and gal. Be safe and have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Oops I'm sorry. Do Canadian's celebrate Thanksgiving? hmm dunno . I will have to google that one. Thanks for another great video. #1

    The short downhill chip from above the pin onto a fast green is my problem. I use your technique (similar to Pelz's technique) with some success (stopping the ball within 3-5 feet of the pin) on long chips, uphill chips, and level chips of 30 feet or so. But when I am say 8-10 feet off the green chipping downhill to a pin about 25 feet away I feel I can't use the gravity and body turn techniques shown here because the ball will simply roll off the front of the green even when I use my 60 degree wedge. Two other conditions that add to the anxiety are a downhill chipping lie above the pin and then a thin downhill lie. For these situations, I stand close to the ball with the heel of my 55 degree or 60 degree wedge off the ground, the ball an inch or two behind the middle of my stance, and try to use a short pendulum putting stroke to strike the ball off the toe of the club and land it jsut on the green Sometimes it works off a good lie but not so well if the ball is down in the grass or on hardpan.. Any suggestions for this type of situation? I appreciate your instruction. Thanks, Chris

  • @golflessons

    @golflessons

    YES!!! YOU WANT TO USE THE PUTTER AND HAVE THE GRASS SLOW THE BALL ONTO THE GREEN and then it can trickle slowly into the hole. Do this anytime it is downhill to the green and downhill again to the hole with mo levelling out.

What are your thoughts on this. I’m torn on which one suits me. Thanks

    @@golflessons I understand excatly what you mean. I have made Finish video with same subject with kettlebell. I want people here in Finland also here about you. Offcource your video is much better 👌🙂 However in this "connected" chipping you are using more body rotational momentum 🔄 around you and not falling momentum 🔛 to target. You defenetly don't want to do that rotational with sledge hammer 🤕😂 Thank you very much for taking time to answer ❤

    Hi Shawn, Sav, Mu, sorry if I misspelled your names. My difficulty with chipping started as I remember came about 4 years ago. I had switched my irons from steel shafted to graphite [lighter weight]' and I did great without exception from 5 iron to wedge. However, when it came to chipping.... my hands took over and I stabbed at the ball. [with the graphite shafted clubs] Needless to say, my chipping became my Achilles heel........ I'm guessing that, because of the lighter weight of the whole club, I tended to manipulate the clubhead, rather than let the mass of club "carry" on. I wonder if other people have had this happen to them. I have solved this for me by going "back" to my old sand and lob wedge, steel shafted. I take 3-4-5 practice swings with my old steel shafted clubs, small swings to feel the weight of the club head, and then let it go through the ball...So... I have graphite shafted irons 6-gw, and steel shafted sw and lw. I wonder if other golfers have had this dilemma.....Thanks......

    The thing is, you want to use the weight of the ARMS AND CLUB as a complete unit. If you swing without a club, you should feel the weight of just the arms from the shoulders down and use that weight to cut through the stem of the dandelion; graphite or not... 😀👍

    Is the planting of the front foot really about moving the body out of the way, or is it more about creating a whip action (albeit a rotational whip) to sling something? I think your body understands and uses rotational whip instinctively. Whipping works. Kids figure this out through untrained discovery. They throw rocks and balls and organically discover what generates power. Getting the body out of the way is incidental to the purpose, creating whip speed/power.

  • @golflessons

    @golflessons

    Exactly!!! The planting of the lead heel is a completely instinctive action the brain needs to use to deliver an action to the target (if the ball is the target, then it is a NO GO!!!) See our “throw the club shawn clement” and “throw the club straight shawn clement”

  • @golflessons

    @golflessons

    Жыл бұрын

    Chipping is a completely different animal! You can go putting grip if you like even cross handed. There is no second pendulum when chipping and there is no CURVE as your swing does not produce enough speed. Savy likes to stay with strong grip but opens the face; here we do not want closed face. We explain all this in our chipping video on premium which is very extensive and leaves no stone unturned so you can relax and just let momentum cut grass in the direction you want the ball to go.

    @@fooltimedaddy no because the shaft lean has been pre-set and stays constant; there is a real sweet spot for this and we talk about it in many of our chip videos; if you have a narrow chipping stance, ball on middle of back foot and hands HANG IN FRONT NATURALLY. Then use momentum to cut stem of dandelion in the direction of the intermediate point which leads to landing spot. If you keep the direction of the swing, the low point will show up right there every time with the scuff mark. Just study our chipping videos, they are technically the most sound by far.

    I always chip with my trail knee, in other words when I hit the ball my trail knee is parallel to the ball. I always pick a landing spot depending on how high or low I’m hitting it and how soft the greens are. But the most important thing for me is to assess the lie before deciding which shot to play. And trust me winter lies in Ireland are many and varied. Love the video

    Chipping/pitching is a weak part of my game but as with everything youtube the more research I do the more my brain is scrambled. 8 of 10 say to never play the ball back and push the hands forwards as this exposes the sharp leading edge and anything other than a precise strike will result in a chilli dip, here you say to do just that, confused.
