Why You Still Remember Invader Zim So Well

The best Invader Zim episodes are the ones that put on full display the shows disgusting beauty. Whether its Gir or Dib creating the obstacle, this show is easily one of the best of that generation of television. Invader Zim is still referenced in multiple forms of media to this day, and theres good reason for that. Invader Zim was art, just not in the ways that people expected.

@Brownie Love agreed actually a lot of people look back at video games and see that constraint breeds innovation you look at links goofy floppy iconic cap and now you realize it was only there to show what direction your pointing in so few pixels, iconic music made simple so that it could still be beautiful yet heavily compressed, So when you have to make something and think around it to make it work you have to really be more imaginative.

It was pretty much on purpose. If you saw some of his other original works he viewed society in general as a this horrible mess of a system. With a quote from Tak and the general attitude of Earth he makes it pretty clear. People see and believe what they want to believe. Even if the truth stares them in the face they will leap at any opportunity to ignore fact for something more comfortable. Humans don’t want their point of view to be changed, they would rather live in comfortable ignorance than live with a horrible truth. Schools are dirty under funded dumpsters for children, where teachers don’t care about the children under them and nothing of any practical value can be gained from it.

Exactly how I felt when I was in middle school (and up to my mid twenties)... that hyper-negative angst. I wished we had more diversity in cartoon styles like in the early 00s because part of the appeal and humor of this show is the neck-breaking speed of the animation, almost spastic, that compliments the absurdity of the story.

This is an amazing analysis. Growing up in a very strict environment; Zim was my first look into what the “outside world” could possibly be like instead of sunshine and rainbows, I became very fascinated with the aesthetic and weirdness of this show. It gave me a look into another culture and exposed me to even various subcultures that to this day I am still fond of. Years later, I would read JTHM and oh man. This show was very clever and ahead of its time for the decade, and this video hit all the points right on the head. Zim is really something special, and it’s unfortunate that its grotesque beauty wasn’t recognized by the network at the time. Truly one of the most creative and amazing cartoons I’ve ever seen for a children’s network.

I don't mean this in a mean way. Just pointing out an understandable mistake. Vasquez is read Vas-kez. The "u" is silent because the last name is in Spanish... it's this weird rule where the "u" in between "q" and "e" becomes silent. Maybe he personally pronounced it like you, idk. But I just wanted to let you know. Anyway, great work as always. Your videos are great to listen to while I do chores and stuff like that. Plus always super informative on all these nostalgic shows.

even if the final product was not completely in line with the vision of the creator and crew I honestly couldn't imagine the show being better if it was allowed that freedom. the direction that they wrote the show into because of their restrictions gives me unending joy (if only it WASN'T CANCELLED). I have grown incredibly attached to characters that they otherwise would have killed, the lore of the universe was getting complex and fascinating, the characters were written fantastically. putting limits on art can spark more creativity than freedom can and I think invader Zim benefited from that, whether we like to admit it or not.

The fact that Zim was built upon pure chaos and beautiful darkness. Invader Zim really pushes boundaries to whole new levels and fought to get it's dark messages across the world. The darkness of Invader Zim is so unique and I wish the original team that worked on it, or maybe even Netflix would buy the franchise from Nick and continue it and give it the justice it deserves. This video really does make you feel an emptiness and loss for the show because of the injustice it was given, however I feel some things Nick prevented from happening (like killing off Dib) was actually good. Without them denying his death, we wouldn't have gotten the amazing Dib that was rewritten to be better, funnier, more paranoid and obsessed with our favorite green alien. We wouldn't have gotten the intimate and bonding moments between Dib and Zim like we did did in "Invader Zim Enter the Florpus", where Dib and Zim actually have a heart to heart moment of understanding and Dib actually felt Zim's pain and could relate to him. However later in the movie Dib actually learned of the love his father actually had for him, he got to hear him telling him he's proud. While Zim... unfortunately doesn't receive any sort of comfort or closure knowing he's actually unwanted by his Tallests.

But I want some. :D I even bought the complete series on DVD of Invader Zim. I remember when I originaly discovered this show on KZread, I fell in love with it, because it was something I never have seen before. The voice acting, the dark humor, the characters were all great. Kind of shows how much balls kids cartoons had back in the 90's and early to mid 2000's. Despite the fact how sad it was the show got cancelled, it is still amazing how much the TV series holds up today. It shows that just because certain shows like Invader Zim are cancelled, doesn't mean they will be forgoten.

Aw yes, one you saw Dark Harvest as a kid there's no way you can take it out of your head. Good video, as much as in the case of Billy & Mandy, the show did a great work at being disgusting, only to make you laugh at the next minute. As a recommendation, a video about how comedy in Dave the Barbarian, or Fairy Oddparents would be amazing!

I loved it, i'd get up at like 4am some days because it was put on that schedule to hide it on certain channels, but we had sky so i knew ! it made me a rebel child.
