Why you stay up late, avoiding tomorrow || Revenge Bedtime Procrastination

Are you a night owl who finds the late hours to be when you're most yourself? In this video, we dive deep into a common yet rarely discussed phenomenon known as Revenge Bedtime Procrastination (RBP). This behavior, where you sacrifice sleep for personal time, is more than just staying up late; it's a response to feeling like you have little control over your daytime life.
We'll explore how RBP is often an unfulfilling cycle, marked by forgettable activities like endless scrolling on your phone and a dread of the coming day. It's like borrowing joy from tomorrow for today, but at a high cost. Chronic RBP can lead to sleep deprivation, affecting your immune system, increasing anxiety, and raising the risk of heart disease.
But it's not all doom and gloom! I will share practical tips on how you can avoid this trap and reclaim your life:
Create Morning Rituals: Start your day with something enjoyable, like gym time or a quiet coffee moment.
Substitute Night Time Screen Time: Swap your late-night phone scrolling for sleep-inducing activities like reading.
Schedule Regular Personal Time: Plan weekly events like game nights or dinners to look forward to.
By understanding Revenge Bedtime Procrastination and taking these small but significant steps, you can improve your sleep quality and overall well-being. Stick around till the end for some personal insights and actionable advice to help break this cycle.

This is the first time I’ve thought to search for an answer to this behavior. I already knew what caused me to participate in this behavior and how it does effect me. It really does boil down to an avoidance tactic for me. Not wanting tomorrow and the things I have to deal with tomorrow to come, so I put off sleep because if I don’t sleep, tomorrow “won’t come”. Thank you for being the first person I could find to give it a name and now I have a better way to research. Much appreciated, god bless you.
