My father wore suspenders with basically all of his slacks. I remember him buying a really nice belt at one point and fidgeting w it all night long at a Xmas party and going out to the car for his emergency suspenders. He had the button style along w the claw ones as well. He'd even have a tailor add buttons to his jeans for them. I miss him dearly.

I bought a car seatbelt belt from Hot Topic 20 years ago and it still works flawlessly.

I've been wearing them for the last 7-8 years.... Way better than a belt. Just make sure you get the kind that have 2 clips per strap. They are great for physical work. Never get plumbers crack.

I just sew the bottoms of all my shirts to the waistband of my trousers, effectively making them a onepiece bodysuit. Now they are always together and always looking sharp!

Agreed! I've been wearing them for two years now, and couldn't recommend it more. Granted however, that you might feel conscious at first, especially when people stare at your braces. I've been there, but it helps that my job require a coat and i wear jacket daily so they are concealed most of the time. These days i really don't care, i wear them with or without jacket.

when I started wearing braces, it was a bit nerve wrecking during first couple weeks because everyone at the office gave me 'what's that?' look. That's bound to happen. Now they're all used to it as one of the things I wear and even give me compliments from time to time.

@@expatesquire6110 the leather double clip ones are the best imo, with elastic braces. I am a house frame builder, so lots of bending and manual labour. Never have to pull my pants up or adjust my trousers at all. Never plumbers crack. The button kind is not good for any manual labour. The buttons break or unstitch. Good for office work. Never use the single clip braces, they don't hold your pants well. Non-elastic braces shouldn't be used in any manual labour work, but they sit nicely and don't grab or bunch up your shirt at your shoulders. Elastic braces will bunch up your shirt on your shoulders a little when you bend or crouch, but they stretch.

Big problem of braces is - whatever is tucked in to your trousers can slowly crouch upwards, especially of you happen to be learning from time to time.

Shirt garters, y style. Suspenders hold pants up, shirt garters hold your shirt down and your socks up

I just started using suspenders a couple of months ago... I can't believe I hadn't tried them before. So much easier to execute my daily tasks.

My partner wears these "sock braces" for work under his suit. They clip onto your socks and the bottom of your shirt to keep your shirt tucked into your trousers. He had to go through airport security and forgot about the braces...damn near had to get naked to show the guy it was his braces making the alarm go off 🤣

You just wear your gunbelt, like how everyone did before the invention of the beltloop in the 1920s. Belts weren't originally used for holding pants up, suspenders predate the the pants-belt by several hundred years.

I've been wearing them for years. Best for comfort.

Do you not understand how suspenders work?

Made the switch earlier this year and don't regret it one bit! If you wear a three-piece suit or one of black/white tie, stroller suit, or morning dress, suspenders are a must as well as traditional. They'll keep everything up, and prevent your trousers waistband from slipping beneath your waistcoat. Ideal for formal attire when a clean silhouette and good form are the overall goals.

If you’re thin…good idea. If you have a gut…very bad idea. I have a bit of a gut and when I wear suspenders they move to the outer side of the stomach and make the paunch look more pronounced. Belly guys, stay away from suspenders.

@@unclejoe5865 . . . Physics. As you move throughout the day, your body will actually either increase or decrease in its mass. As it does, your trousers will stretch because they're made of fabric. At the end of the day, your trousers are no longer the size they were when you put them on fresh from the laundry. They are actually anywhere from one half to one size larger. Ergo, the need for a belt or in this case, suspenders.

Certain bodytypes just refuse to work with belts, no matter how well-fitted my pants are, they will fall down throughout the day or from certain movements with a belt.

Agreed, I started wearing braces at work because my work trousers (heavy cargo type) were really uncomfortable with a belt and I've never looked back!

I have never been pinged in the eye by my belt.

I am a truck driver and I have found that belts are not my friend. Started using braces about 8 years ago and I will never go back to a belt. I even use braces with my cargo shorts in the summer, not sure if that's a party foul but it works for me!

Personally belts are awesome for that reason. I compete bodybuilding and the belt showing off the thin waist to shoulder ratio is a nice touch for an outfit

I like the style of suspenders or overalls. Their an automatic statement in casual wear, and suspenders can be very classy.

I read a study that showed that much like victorian area corsets for woman that the modern day men's belt is squeezing and changing anatomy. Causing lower back issues digestive issues posture changes etc. Wish I could remember where I saw this. But as an obese man I swapped to suspenders about 8 years ago and haven't looked back!

It’s true, I recently made the switch for the most part. Because I dress vintage though, some looks that I go for do typically work better with a belt so I don’t always sport my braces. But I do love suspenders, and I’ll sing their praises until the day I die!

Keep in mind when I hear the word “braces” my first thoughts are painful teeth metal and medical reinforcement, I know suspenders is old school but, it’s better than braces at least. Also u sold me on suspenders.

I love suspenders and their classic look. Slowly but surely I've been studying more and more about the art of the gentleman, thanks to you Mr. Allison. No doubt that a proper suit can greatly enhance the overall elegance of a man's presentation.

Besides looking well dressed: doing yard work, working on cars fixing the sink. Etc. These chores are made easier by suspenders.

As a normal clothes person my clothing even underwear stops my stomachs from digesting food idk why I hate belts but it's gotten better I just gotta use the bathroom more to make sure my stomach isn't filled up

Belts started being used instead of straps because the thickness and support it provided to your lombar region allowed people to lift heavy weights with less tisk of injury. Think of it as a lifting belt

I wear them between my undershirt and polo, the only downside is that you need to take your shirt off if you need to take a dump

It’s less about sartorial evolution, and more about growing older and (usually) fatter as you become more able to afford tailored suits. Braces are really useful when your waist is bigger than your hips.

I refuse to take fashion advice from someone who has the tail of his necktie longer than the blade.

Problem with me wearing suspenders is due to some injuries I’ve had my shoulder is really messed up so adding any sort of prolonged strain to my shoulders really hurts I’ve tried it many times but suspenders keep on hurting me

I wear them, but also use a belt. Not to keep my pants on. But belts are better for things that strap to belts. And further prove suspenders are underrated as they can hold more weight, comfortably, than a belt can. And they can hold the belt also.

Since we're not referring to them as suspenders, instead going with the 1820s British designer term "braces," we can mark them up 1000%.

Never once in my life have I felt the need to unbuckle my belt or pants because I've eaten something, not even on Thanksgiving when we're eating a ton of food

They are wonderful, but a disadvantage is that going to the bathroom requires an extra step. I still wear them though.

I wear the same belt my father used to beat me with my entire childhood, but yeah, suspenders sound nice.

I work in a female-dominated healthcare environment as the maintenance man and I switched to suspenders a couple of months ago. I'm surprised about the reaction from females because I haven't received any negative feedback, and the feedback I have gotten has been all positive. The first day I wore them the old ladies noticed immediately and some commented that their fathers wore suspenders, and they seem to genuinely pleased to see them. The young girls are totally indifferent, except one of them said she wished that she could wear suspenders after I told her they hold your pants up better. And finally, the women who are my age in their 40's told me that they were cool and they like them. I wear dark grey slacks, a light grey shirt, and dark grey Dickies clip-on suspenders that I found on Amazon. Another thing I've noticed is I get a little bit more respect from men when I'm in them. I get referred to as Sir more often, and I seem to get respectful head nods more often at the gas station. I think it gives me the appearance of someone in a position of authority.

My dad is 66, he's been wearing braces & a waistcoat for as long as I can remember, & probably has been since before I was born.

When I was a teenager in UK in early 2000's I couldn't wear braces because I had a very shaved head and people would often assume I was a neo nazi
