That published article you showed is what brought me here, I'm interested in your other videos now! Thanks for sharing!
Super helpful for form! Thank you
Dope video thank you
Lots of good tips. Thanks.
We just used it to get a little moderate stepping everyday. kzread.infoUgkxgAz8z9Y03AXTl_xgiCmYWfRKpnpW8nYG But after a family member had some medical issues and getting into bed and out of bed (with a really high 28” above the floor matress ) we added a little fluorescent glow in the dark tape to the edges and they now can get into and out of bed safely! What a difference this little stepper has made for them. and we still use it for daily moderate exercise routine also.
thanks for instruction
Thanks, bro
Great video. How much knee dominant and quadriceps activation during step up vs squat?
Amazing
I hit the like button 'cause of that dope dilla t-shirt. 👍
Ran across this video randomly. Liked and subscribed because of the Dilla shirt but excellent content. I literally did step ups today at the gym before I came across this video
4:16 I totally see myself there....! Falling down backwards 🤣🤣
I use a 20” box with a dumbbell in same hand and then opposite hand. 20” might be a little high, but I do a lot of hiking where I have to step pretty high up on rocks higher than 20”.
The FIRM exercise videos by Anna and Cynthia Benson put this in nearly all their videos starting in the 80s into the 90s. Les Mills started them earlier than that. Also, the errors you demonstrate can be simply the box is too tall--not so much for the individual's height, but also their strength. Working with a shorter box to build strength will allow gradual height increase and weight plate increase, even for shorter athletes.
I do weighted stair climbs, first one step at a time and then two steps.
Awesome video! I need to incorporate step-ups into my training. What about using dumbbells instead of barbell?

The dumbbells take a bit of the instability out of the movement but still a worthy substitute. I do a lot of body weight step ups with higher steps to focus on range of motion also.
I find that discs in a rucksack are easy and safe.
This transfers well over to the blocks in sprinting right?

doesn't matter much. what matters is brace your core tight, focus on driving the opposite knee up while also pushing the step/box down. keep your torso tight all the time. neutral spine.
I do this with a 25-pound kettle bell in each hand. Great exercise although the bulgarian split squat is probably a bit more efficient overall for hitting the quad.

Its alright but id do squats first, and after squats do a compound lift that hits the hamstrings. (Romanian dl or good morning) other exercises seem solid
What weight should I do it with? I back squat 3 sets for 100lbs.

These are god damn hard lmao, i squat 120kg but legit can't load these, since I only have a 24inch box

That’s 6-10" higher box than the 14-18" he recommends. I bet they get much harder with 24".
Bulgarians or step-ups?!
Why not just body weight?

Glutes are the largest, not strongest
The jaw muscle is by far the strongest muscle in our body. Just my 2 cents.

The masseter muscle in our jaws indeed is the strongest muscle. But for the purpose of training, he's not wrong, glute muscle is strong AF.
Definitely not 18-20” but ok
