College apartment advertised $575/month/room. Contract read $757/month/room. Two of my roommates had already signed, I demanded a new housing contract. Found other damning things, such as making us liable for any damages, even those caused during maintenance fixes and uncontrollable factors. Moved out since.

If they advertised $575 a month for a room, and refused to give you a contract with advertised amount, then they can be sued for false advertising, and committing fraud. The thing I have noticed though is that most places who try to pull a bait & switch like that use very specific language, and have precise wording. Case in point they would say something like, "Starting price for apartments as low as $575/month/room". Then they usually will give that to either one, or a few people like 3 or 4, out of the whole complex. That way if they get sued they can claim that only some are as low as $575/month/room, and jack up the prices for the rest.

I am legally blind (degenerative disease, use a cane but not total yet) and so always have lawyers read contracts for me (usually for free know a lot of lawyers, actually quite common profession for blind people). One apartment lease i specifically asked to be be embossed (printed in Braille) and when I was asked why I plainly said that I didn't trust them and there is no such thing as "fine print Braille" since it has few size variations. They weren't too happy and denied my request, backed out immediately.

My dad (family practice doctor) was looking for a new place to run his practice. He found a new building under construction, and they provided him with a copy of their standard lease. Everything was to his liking, including an exclusive use clause for the building (they couldn't have another family practice doctor as a tenant). So he went in the next day and signed. When the building opened, he noticed another family practice doctor inside. He talked to her, and they both thought they'd had an exclusive use clause in their leases. They complained to the building management that this wasn't allowed per the terms of their lease. Management told them to show them where the lease said that. Turns out they'd given my dad a copy of the lease to take home and read at his leisure which contained the exclusive use clause. But when he went in to sign, they had prepared another copy of the lease with his info filled in for him to sign. They had removed the exclusive use clause from this copy of the lease. So if someone gives you a copy of a contract to read, make sure that's the copy you sign. If they insist that you sign a different copy, you need to start over from scratch and read the whole thing all over again.

I haven't finished the video at the time I write this but one of the stories made me smile in memory of an incident with a company that refuses to pay me the expenses of a travel overseas. they gave me excuses for a month. once I got tired of the time wasted I just said this "if next friday I don't have the money on my bank account, on monday you will be talking with my lawyer" I got a call the next day to tell me that I could go to pick the money any time I wanted. of course, they tried to cheat me on the amount. I looked at the check and just said "the amount is wrong". I didn't even need to remind them what was the correct amount. ten minutes later, I had my money (about a third of it on low bills or coins that they had, probably, collected from whoever was at the office) lawyers are great. you don't even need to hire them. you mention them and the scum sh*t themselves.

Slight counterpoint- bluffing a lawyer can also blow up in your face. Glad it worked out for you, but it can also make things WAY more of a headache. I work at a large financial firm dealing with retirement planning (401ks, IRAs, etc), and the second someone starts threatening lawyers, everything on their request halts until our legal counsel reviews absolutely everything and gives us the okay to continue. I’ve seen multiple people try threatening to sue us, thinking that’ll speed things up and we’re just stonewalling because we don’t want to give up their money. Spoilers: it doesn’t work. Sorry Karen, what the IRS and DoL tell us to do is gonna trump whatever you think you’re entitled to.

I'm an illustrator for a living. Back when I was still in school for it, one of the required classes senior year was called "Portfolio" but it was basically a business of illustration class to teach us how to run our business if we were going to do freelance work, which was REALLY valuable. One of the mainstays of that class was the profs telling us stories of how they or their peers in the industry were taken advantage of, or in their words: "We're telling you all of the ways we've been fucked over in our careers so you can avoid them and find NEW ways to be fucked over." The headliner story every year was of Don Maitz, the illustrator who created Captain Morgan (the rum mascot). He didn't read the fine print of his contract. As a result, he's never seen a _single penny_ in royalties from the use of his Captain Morgan art. He'd be a millionaire now otherwise. ALWAYS READ YOUR CONTRACTS. And in the case of illustrators/graphic artists, if you don't understand all the legalese yourself you either need to have a copyright/IP attorney to look things over for you or an agent who will handle contact negotiations and invoicing for you.

If it doesn't match up, call the bank ASAP and tell them to reverse the charge, if they require proof either take it in yourself or scan it and email it or fax it. This is how I've gotten out of SOOOO many gym contracts. Also, if they say "$10/month first year, then $50/month every year thereafter" MAKE SURE IT'S IN THE CONTRACT!!!! I had a friend who was moving into her first apartment. She had never dealt with things like this before and know what questions to ask. I asked her to take me with her to view apartments so I could point out things that she should look for and tell her about some questions that are important to ask but she decided to do it on her own. Move in day comes and the place is a crap shack. Nothing like the show room that she viewed. I told her that she needs to get out of this place ASAP. She agreed but was concerned about what the cost would be to break her lease so I had her show me the contract she signed. Where it listed the cost to break the lease, it very clearly listed $0.00. I couldn't believe it so we went to the property manager who immediately started saying things like "this is a mistake" and "we'll need to amend the contract". I quickly rebutted that the contract is already signed and if they want to try to dispute it then my lawyer will be in touch. My friend moved out the next month with no cost to her.

My story: I'm a writer. When I was still new to it, this lady presented herself as a producer who could help get my writing produced into a motion picture. She talked a good game. I'll give her that she initially was very smooth and charming. She went as far as to get a contract drawn up. In the midst of everything, I researched her to see if her work history, including everything on her resume, was legit. Turns out it wasn't. The 20 plus years experience she claimed she had as an actress, writer and producer were total fiction. The only acting she did was like a total narcissist who expected the world to bend over backwards for her. The only thing she ever wrote, besides a grocery list, was a bad check and the only thing she ever produced was second-hand smoke. Hell, for supposedly having so much theater experience she didn't even know what a soliloquy was versus an aside. She turned out to be a grifter with zero skills or talent. When I wouldn't sign the contract, she turned in to a raging bitch. After she smugly promised she would produce my work whether I liked it or not, thus committing theft of intellectual property, plagiarism and copyright management, I told her I would expose her as the lying, thieving fraud that she is if she didn't back off. Her false persona that she had put out there was too important for her to risk jeopardizing, so she, in a demonstration of her trademark cowardice, tucked her tail between her legs, deactivated all of her social media, went off the grid and turned into a ghost. I later heard through the grapevine that she's ticked off close to 100 people with her unethical, immoral, not to mention downright illegal business practices and has become blacklisted in her current state of residence. Because her reputation precedes her, if she wants to salvage anything resembling a career, she's going to have to relocate to somewhere far away where no one knows her. If you're reading this, Sharon, screw you. Karma's a bitch. EDIT: Using only a first name does not constitute doxxing. If you have a problem with calling someone out for being a liar and a thief, then you probably also are a liar and a thief.

Not technically a contract, but a while my parents were trying to sign me up for a drivers' ed thing at a place that gave vocational services to special needs kids. Note that while I technically fall under that category, it's only barely, and all of my classes in school were alongside neurotypical kids. We had gotten a packet that explained everything they offered, including the drivers' ed, but my mom always skims through that stuff. My parents knew that I didn't need the vocational stuff, however, for some reason, my parents saw this as necessary, and tried to set something up. When we managed to get a meeting with the people who ran it, my mother, who was with me at the time, expressed her interest in the drivers' ed stuff, and only that. The person we met with claimed that to take that, I *had* to do one of the vocational services they offered. This was not told through any phone calls or emails, and may have been in the aforementioned packet, but again, my mom only skimmed through it. Thankfully, we hadn't registered for anything, so we were able to back out. Literally everyone in the family agreed that this was bullshit, and we moved on to the drivers' ed thing that a close friend of mine had gone to, which my brother was going to go to. Officially starting in January.

We were considering selling our home to the state agency that ran the waterway system by our home, some years back. We went back and forth on it, retained a real estate lawyer, and they still played all kinds of games with their proposals and written contract. One thing they wanted was to be able to _before ever closing the deal_ come dig for native artifacts (with the city's help) on our property to "ensure" that it was ok to sell our house. Uh huh. Yeah, no. Lawyer could not believe they would try that. Finally got them to agree to remove that and we had it all set up and were ready to start the transaction.... or so we thought. "Oh, we have to put this in committee to approve or deny," said the person in charge. Say what? WE JUST DID THIS FOR 4 MONTHS! Figured they were wasting our time and told them NO SALE. Haven't heard back since. The $500 or so we gave the lawyer saved us a lot more in the long run. And be careful: doesn't always take a contract to shaft someone. Cases in point: To make sure that folks understand how crooked the state or city government agencies can be: Some people on the next street over sold their rental property to someone else. These people had the house demolished with the plan to move the new one a bit further back on the property. So the city came out and "found" (read, planted) native artifacts on the site so now those new owners are unable to build due to city bylaws. This vindicated our suspicions. Then, ONE DAY before an abandoned 19th-century commercial property was supposed to be the subject of a city council meeting of what to do about it and taxes and such, it mysteriously burned to the ground. In a heavy rainstorm. Fire department said it was NOT accidental. No further investigative action was taken besides bulldozing the site.

Why not both?” And the guy goes on some spiel about scheduling and yada yada. My stepdad, quickly losing his patience, asks “you said the cars are at another location, right?” “Yes.” “How far away is it?” “About 10 minutes away.” “Then we’ll just go there and test drive.” The guy and his associate are then like, “b-but if you leave here, we’ll be cut off from the sale!” (they actually said that lmao) and my stepdad looks the guy in the eye and replies, “I don’t know you. I don’t owe you anything. We’re done here.” And turns and leaves without seeing the guy’s reaction. But he does see my mom’s reaction: a look of utter horror as she ponders what the heck happened to her normally kind and patient husband. They leave, they go to the other location, and by the end of the day he’s got a lovely Lincoln hybrid he got for 8 grand

My brother left teaching at the end of the 2022-2023 school year (his school would GLADLY throw teachers under the buss to please douchey parents) and joined the national guard. During the four months between leaving his teaching job and shipping off the basic he was a car salesmen. He told me that he was literally trained to not necessarily "lie" per se, but to withhold as much truth as he possibly could from his customers. There were quite a few sleepless nights for him. I'm so glad he left that miserable industry.

3:10 _"Nothing makes me more sick than agencies taking advantage of kids pursuing their dream."_ (This turned into a verbose rant so let this serve as your warning if you decide to read on. I'm not responsible for your wasted time. lol) I have always felt that way about the Art Institutes chain of diploma mills that advertise during daytime TV promising the sun, moon, and stars to kids who want to do anything in graphic art. As I said in another comment, I'm an illustrator, designer, and colorist for a living. I got a BFA in illustration from Ringling, which is one of the really respected art schools within the industry (along with places like Pratt, RISD, CalArts, Chicago Institute, etc.). Having a degree from a school like that can get your foot in the door in a lot of places just based on the reputation of the caliber of education the school provides. AI, on the other hand, can make you LOSE job opportunities because they're a notorious garbage "school" and diploma mill. I also make fanart for my own enjoyment between professional work, and when I was younger I would sell in the artist alleys of a few local conventions in my area which was a wonderful experience... but at almost _every single convention_ I'd see AI set up a booth right next to the entrance to the artist alley, preying on kids who had dreams of being manga-kas, comic book artists, animators, etc. I always had to fight the urge to physically flip their damn table because of the financial trap they were _knowingly_ luring those kids into. 😡 AI gives you a garbage education for an astronomical price with the promise of lucrative job placement. There's always an odd person here or there who insists that they got a great education from AI, but they're the exception to the rule. Every other first-hand account I've heard has backed up everything else about their reputation in the industry like the profs not knowing what they were teaching, using online tutorials that were free to anybody, the classrooms having horribly outdated equipment/software, etc. Another common tactic from AI is to constantly move the goal posts for their degree programs so that right when you're about to graduate, they change credit requirements to keep you there longer and spend MORE tuition money for additional classes, and if you drop out you obviously don't get your degree. Even better, AI isn't accredited so their class credits rarely ever transfer to a legitimate school, so you've blown tens of thousands of dollars on completely useless credits. Another AI sin was, again, promising job placement which I've heard time and time again they just _don't do._ The jobs they have on offer are complete shit (if they have any at all) and otherwise you're just on your own up shit creek without a paddle. Comparatively, all the "good" schools have robust career services offices with extensive job listings for current students as well as alumni, and recruiters for major companies come to campus to interview and hire graduating seniors before they even formally enter the job market. Lastly, what I think is one of the biggest red flags: AI doesn't require a portfolio for acceptance. So long as you can pay the tuition, you're in. NO good art school operates that way. When I applied to art school I was told that while my grades would help me, my portfolio would be about 80% of what would get me in or get me rejected. Art school is something where you need at least a baseline of ability/talent to succeed, so that talent can be honed into a marketable skill. I know at least in my experience when I was there, halfway through sophomore year at Ringling the IL department would have portfolio reviews where you would drop it off and come back to pick it back up hours later. And when you did, you hoped to god that there wasn't an envelope sitting on top of your portfolio because if there was, it was the department telling you that they didn't think you had what it would take to make a living in the illustration industry along with a recommendation to withdraw and put your tuition money toward a field where you could find success in life. Good art schools want to produce good artists with successful, fulfilling careers. AI just wants your money and doesn't give a shit about you as a human being let alone as an artist. I told you this was verbose.

Fun with sunset clauses. Here in NZ new builds are becoming very popular as our building industry finally explodes into action. Along with that comes a lot of developers who of course write clauses which benefit themself. A very common one that recently started coming up a lot is the sunset clause. Most contracts will have a deadline, and after that time the contract can be cancelled without penalty. What most people aren't aware of is often they are written to give advantage to the developer, and give them first choice to proceed or to cancel the contract. And in 20/21 there was a large surge in house prices, so what some developers would do is drag their feet and run out the clock on the sunset clauses. Then those buyers who had signed contracts suddenly find they have essentially funded the building of the house, ie put up the capital, and waited for the build to finish, only to have the contract cancelled just prior to completion once it goes past the sunset clause. Sure they would get their deposits back, but in some cases they lost up to a 30% capital gain in house prices which they should have become owners. If you have a good lawyer though, they will point this clause out to new buyers. In our case we had our rewritten so that only we could choose to proceed, or end the contract. Well now the fickle markets have turned, interest rates rose very high, and we are suddenly a lot less keen to buy our property. In fact a whole host of cheap houses are flooding on to the market now, and prices are likely to stay settled or even continue to decrease over the next 12 months. As of March we intend to withdraw from our agreement also via the sunset clause, so it can work both ways. This gives us time to further build up our savings while not missing out on anything.

My dad’s in the car business. He was just complaining about some customer who was mad that they paid over MSRP. They saw MSRP on the window sticker, the price on the physical car. Then the contract had a higher price, couple thousand dollars more. They signed it without noticing. My dad genuinely believes the person is in the wrong because they signed the contract. Like that’s how these ppl justify it to themselves. Yes they did show you one price, put a different price on the contract, knew the price was higher then they showed you, didn’t disclose further that they’re charging even more, but you still signed it so it’s your fault not mine. When I say that, he’s like well what am I supposed to point out that I’m charging them more. Yes, dad that’s exactly what would be ethical. But morals go out the window because legally it’s the customers fault, not my dad’s, and this is just all to feed his kids and put a roof over their head. Still a piece of shit. Wish he’d just drop the denial, accept his line of work is scumbag activity, and just proudly be the piece of shit that he is. Lying to himself and then arguing with ppl about how he’s not a bad person is just pathetic.

A few general comments: I'm an attorney and it has been surprisingly helpful to casually mention it in conversation. I have sometimes seen a salesman do a double take at that. Re: No overtime contracts: They are illegal under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act. You cannot validly contract away your rights under the FLSA. There are lots of rights which are "inalienable" which means you cannot contract them away. If you have signed a no overtime contract and have worked more than 40 hours per 7 day week and can prove it in some way (time slips, diary, computer logs, etc.) you can report it to the Department of Labor and the employer will be liable for triple what was owed to you. Many states are eliminating or very strictly restricting no compete clauses as being contrary to public policy. Each state is different. And they are usually enforced as strictly as possible against the employer. Agent and gallery contracts are some of the worst around. I have reviewed some gallery contract for artist friends and some of them came very close to being involuntary servitude. I have rewritten thos contracts and, very often, the galley will roll over with no exception if they know that they are dealing with someone with knowledge and cojones. DO NOT be afraid to walk away from something if there is a bad clause and they won't change it. Most contracts and general contract law construe the contract against the drafter and have clauses that it is the entire agreement and no oral modification is valid. So, if you have a signed contract and the other person let something that they don't like into it they are stuck with it, their contract, thier rules. Once it's signed it is enforcable.

The second contract reminded me of a contract I've twice mulled over. Employment with a company called Revature. Long and short of it, they hire you on and train you for about three months, and then you're locked in a two year gig, where you're loaned out to other companies. Starting rate is about 45-50k a year. Sounds neat right? Well, until you get down to taht 30k severance penalty. If you decide this isn't the right company for you, or you hate what you're doing... they suggest in the contract you need to pay 30k. The issue is... it may or may not be legal, according to the locality it's in. And... you aren't working remotely, in most cases. You are onsite somewhere in the USA, and they don't help you move, or find housing. You are wildly on your own, and fuck you if that doesn't work out. Be wary, you programmers who aren't very good at interviewing, they and other companies like them are predatory, and numerous. A friend described it as a H1B serf trap. Perhaps it is just the kind of thing you need... but it's not a good deal. Find your professional mentor and train in interviewing, if you want a CS position somewhere.

Either party of the contract, can Amend the contract! Without notifying them of the amendment. If I amend a contract, and they fail to re-read the contract, and they just sign it, I got them by the balls. You can strike out anything you don't agree to and initial it. They needed a first and second mortgage to cover it all, so two sets of loan documents. They both read every word before signing or initialling anything. Parents recently bought nearly the exact Wagoneer they wanted, correct color, bench interior, etc. Taxes were done wrong. When I first moved out of my parents place, with a friend, the house we liked to rent had a glorious vegetable garden out the back, when we checked it out while the owners were still living there. They moved out , and we moved in, to discover the vegetable garden had been removed. We lived there for two years, at which point I had grown a new vegetable patch. The work contact the owners had left for was up, and they were returning to their house. They visited us, to see what condition the house was, in case they needed to arrange any maintenance before they moved back in (it didn't). At which point they commented that the vegetable garden looked great, and noticed different products growing. We got given our 2 months notice from the estage agents that we need to move out, along with a list of what condition the house needs to be left on. Which stated that any home grown vegetation needs to be removed, this included the vegetable patch. I contacted the owners, to ask if this was correct. They were unaware of this stipulation. Now in the 2ish years we had lived there, I had not only maintained the exteriour of the house beautifully, but had improved the health of all the trees and landscaped the garden back to its former glory (I'd found an old path that had been overgrown by lawn). Unfortunately, in the contract signed by both the home owners and us, the vegetable garden HAD to be destroyed (removed) before we moved out. I refused, and sumbitted a letter that the owners would prefer it to stay. The owners signed it as well, and submitted their own complaint of the clause. We all thought the matter was dealt with, and we moved out. The estate agents, apon inspection of the property, arranged for the vegetable garden to be ripped out, and charged us for the cost of labour (which apparently was more than the bond). In the end, we didn't pay the excess, but still lost our bond. The owners, told the estage agents they will never deal with them ever again. It transpired that the owners had a lot of clout within the community, as the estate agents when bust shortly after. Everyone else who delt with them pulled they contracts. They were effectively black-listed by the community they were operating out of. One tiny clause that they refused to budge on against the wrong person killed their company.

In the early 90s my grandmother was in a minor accident. Car in front of her abruptly stopped to turn into a driveway, it was raining, and she was unable to stop and clipped the left bumper and knocked out their tail light. When their insurance contacts her they say her license can be revoked unless she pays for the damage. She was living on less than $500/month social security so she agreed to pay $10/month and signs the contract. She didn't have her glasses and wasn't able to read it. She gets the whole contract, several pages later that week and it's saying she has to pay over $100/month, don't remember exactly how much, for several years to the tune of $5000! Believe me there was nowhere near that much damage. Maybe $500 to 1000 but not $5000! They accepted the $10 or 20 she took every month. Until my brother visiting from out of state obtained the police report and discovered it stated "Brakes were wet and wouldn't hold, ACCIDENT UNAVOIDABLE" . The officer had inspected the brakes after she told him they went all the way to the floor when she tried to stop, and had put that in the report. After confronting the insurance company with said report and threatening legal action they dropped it and she never paid another dime.

We will have to get a senior tech to come out and verify. Fair enough. He came the next day and couldn't get a signal. I asked for a copy of his findings, called DTV and told them since they can't get a signal, unfortunately, I'd have to cancel the service. The lady on the phone phone said yep, no prob. We'll take care of that and of course there's no cancellation fee. A week later, I noticed over $300 had been sucked out of my bank acct by DTV. (The exact amount of early cancellation)!!!!! I threatened them with small claims court for the full $5,000 allowed, as that is my fee for dealing with this bullshit, and I will tell everyone I know about your shady ass business practice. DTV legal: "please hold a moment". I could hear some mumbles. DTV legal guy comes back on: "Sir, we will have your funds refunded back to your account by tomorrow". I told them if it wasn't there, then the next day I was heading for the courthouse. Money was back in my account the next day. I've learned that you just have to push back and be willing to do whatever it takes!

35 made me chuckle. Where I live that's normal. So is no overtime (you work it but don't get paid for it), no holiday pay, no PTO, no benefits, no raises, no sick days, no breaks, and so on. Missouri is great. Granted, not all companies here are like that, but many of them are because we have no laws that say they have to provide those things.

When possible, ask to bring the contract to read at home before signing. Type up a near-exact replica of that contract right down to the font and spacing, but edit some of the terms to make better in your favor. Sign the replica and get them to do that, too. Ask for a personal copy of the fully-signed replica for your own record-keeping. You aren't the *only* one who needs to read the fine print. A contract is a contract.

13:09 I’m like 99% sure that after market parts can’t actually void your warranty but if the dealership can price the part caused damage, they can deny the warranty claim. Similar outcomes but a bit different. Either way, if you’re going to be beefing up your vehicle, I wouldn’t consider counting on a warranty

Anytime Fitness is a joke. I signed up for a member ship and everything was going great until my hours got cut at my job. Told them I need to cancel my membership due to not being able to afford it. They said well we can't cancel without a doctor's note saying it's unwise for you to workout. Looked over the contract that is not in it. They said I was right and said it would be taken care of, 4 months later I get a phone call from a collection's agency. They didn't cancel it but instead sold ran it up and sold the debt. Got a lawyer friend of mine involved and never had to pay anything.

Sorta a contract. Worked for a small company who was self insured funding. Meaning if your medical expense is $500 the company pays the $500 less any deductible. Our plan book showed what I needed was covered 100% I got everything pre approved had the procedure and the bill was close to $100,000.00. A few weeks later I get bill for $9500. I appeal it and denied saying I was covered for 90% and $200 deductible. I then go to HR. They get policy out and show me the 90% coverage. I get out plan book and it shows 100%. The owner eventually got in on situation and gave me a check to pay difference to hospital. Needless to say we got corrected books fast. Company who provided insurance policy to company cut and pasted wrong info. Owner got reimbursed from insurance for difference. It was a tax right off, court would have cost more if I sued and he said regardless it was right thing to do since I needed procedure.

TL;DR: cops chase us for doing burnouts, later catch us doing other burnouts and let us go In my town in the car community there’s a few ways to “assert dominance” and one of these ways is to drift around this one large two-lane roundabout on the outskirts of town. If you can get a couple full laps done it shows you have skill and your car is capable Anyway. The placement of the roundabout tee’s off the main road through the middle of town and sort of the last road of where the businesses are. No houses around just a small shopping centre, some sort of trade business, an empty lot and a small truck depot are on the 4 corners of the roundabout. One night we go there as a group. It’s late (I’d say around 2am) Probably about 6 of us all up. My one friend is hitting the roundabout while the rest of us are in the shopping centre car park just watching. Nobody around us as all the businesses are closed and not a single house for a fair radius around where we are. My friend gets a couple laps in and pulls into the car park with us. We’re all standing around our small group of cars with all our cars running still in case we have to book it. All of a sudden a man comes from around one of the businesses going ballistic. No idea where he came from cause all businesses should be closed and there’s no houses around. Shouting at us all to leave and he’s called the cops and vaguely threatening us. Even shouts to me “I KNOW YOUR CAR I KNOW WHERE YOU WORK” so we all just jump in our cars and take off heading away from town. As we leave from the car park he actually jumps in the road and tried to block us from leaving so we all jump the median and take off back towards town. Booking it towards town there’s another main intersection. One way goes to some residential streets and one way goes to an industrial park. I go left to the residential streets and one car follows me. The others go into the industrial complex. I take a couple backstreets and end up at a park. The other guy who went my way was a little bit behind me as his car wasn’t as fast as mine, he finds me and pulls up and informs me that as he was rounding the corner off the main road he saw police lights about half a kilometer back heading our way. We wait for about 10 minutes in the darkness before contacting the other group. They tell us they’re a little bit out of town so we decide to try make our way there. Take back streets and all that and finally make our way to our friends who tell us they’re going out of town to do burnouts (fairly common thing for us to do) Head a few km out of town to an empty road with nothing but paddocks for kilometres and the same friend who was doing the roundabout starts doing burnouts (if you’ve never seen Australian burnouts it’s a sight to see) After a while of noisy Smokey action his engine blows up. (Again, funny as it sounds, fairly common) so he pulls over and we start to devise a plan of how to get the car home. It’s now around 3am and he lives in another town 30 minutes from where we are. After standing around, having a laugh and making a plan for about 5 minutes a cop car randomly arrives. It’s bad. There’s 6 of us, all cars matching descriptions we assume the guy from earlier gave to cops, on a road out of town with fresh tire marks on the road and the smell of burning rubber in the air. The cops just stop. Ask what’s happening. We say we were heading to friends house and his car randomly blew up on the highway and are trying to figure out a way to get it home again. The cop immediately radios in a flatbed and about 20 minutes later my friends car is loaded onto a tow truck, cop leaves and the towie turns to my friend and goes “you guys were skidding weren’t ya?”. Mate replies fuck yes we were. Towie asks where to go, mate gives an address of the shop a few doors down from his house (didn’t wanna give him the actual address) Towie drops the car off and goes “yeah if you got cash just $100” to which my mate gladly hands over and the night is done. Still don’t know how those cops didn’t do anything. Part of me has a feeling they knew it was us but seeing my friends engine had blown up was good enough of a punishment. He had a new engine back in it by the end of the next day.

Story 14- NSW Public schools do the same thing- giving students free wifi everyone at my high school shamelessly watches youtube on it, whether it be k-pop mvs, documentaries, or playing the tetris chrome extension, more or less anything else you can access on the wifi (some websites are blocked) people have told said that the school can see what you do, but if that's true, they don't do anything about it because they haven't said anything about it all. Neither the school, or the DoE.

Well, having to put up my mom's house for rent. Real Estate agent sends a copy of the contract for review, saying that she has renters willing to move in mid-month. Reading the contract, I see that the first month and a half were to be charged for about half the rate we agreed to. Pointed it out to the agent and she agreed to change it.

Recently knew someone who was late on his car payments by a few days or weeks per month, and apparently there was a clause in the contract that says not only will there be additional interest + late fees charged, but the late payments will also be computed into the total payment. So, instead of owing 10,000$, even after making his payments, he now owes 14,000$ for the vehicle lmao The best part, all this wasnt in the inital contract, but these changes were put in once the company had a new owner come in. Luckily, they were willing to buy back the vehicle and break the lease the moment the guy brought in the idea of getting legal aid

As a German non competes like those mentioned sound insane. In Germany a non compete without compensation (at least 50% of the last renumeration) is null and void and it also can't be baked into another contract. It can be mentioned in the initial contract, but the details have to be negotiated. On top of that it's illegal to have non competes which make it so you can't work on the field anymore and it needs to be due to a legitimate interest. Non competes while you're working are more extensive, but again, there needs to be a legitimate interest. A restaurant can't force a waiter to not work as a waiter at a different restaurant. An actor can't be forced to not take other roles, unless this hurts the employer. In general work which doesn't hurt your current employer is legal. Heck you could even do paper work for two competing companies! And even if you break the non compete the former employer can't sue you into oblivion. Either an agreed compensation or the damages need to be paid for.
