    The more I hear about EL zone, the more I get excited about the future of filmmaking. This all came from asking "why?" and look where it's gotten us. Why is false color the go-to for exposure and bam, here we are with EL zone. Can you imagine other principles that we follow that need to be questioned? This is pretty exciting! Now to get a monitor that uses EL zone. lol

  • @Edwin--

    @Edwin--

    8 ай бұрын

    Depends on your use case. No matter what monitor you choose, it will make your setup significantly bulkier. So this is the first choice. Do you need it over your EVF and/or on camera screen. On smaller mirrorless cameras, I wouldn't use a 7 inch monitor either, better 5 inch. 5 inch is enough to judge autofocus and exposure, for critical handheld focus 7 inch is certainly better. On larger rigs, 7 inch is best as screen real estate is always an advantage. If you only make video as a hobby, a monitor like a Atomos Shinobi is a nice starting point at a good price. The SmallHD's are more for professional use, and are 4 to 5 times the price of a Shinobi, with of course some more professional built quality and features (like an aluminum body, SDI ports, EL Zone exposure measurement etc.)

    I like the brand, I’ve only ever owned smallhd. But the company itself sucks. The support is almost insulting, and you never end up using the gimmicky ‘features’ on the monitors, the camera already does all those things. All you need is something bright you can plug in to your camera. The action 5 is a good monitor for that. They gave it some terrible software so that you’d buy the more expensive version. It can also make whites look overexposed at times. Ok it’s a piece of crap but it’s 2000 nits. I wouldn’t bother with the other models, if you’re the one paying for it. The company itself is terrible and from what I can tell, is staffed with not so great people either. They’re not premium. Far from it.
