If you're coming back to Perhentian again in the future, do check out Bukit Keluang (Keluang hill) on the mainland. About 10 minutes drive south of Kuala Besut jetty. It's a more arduous hike than the windmill hill. Also there's a forlorn/forgotten viewpoint on the southern end of long beach, the banana plantation but do bring a machete with you. Also before mimpi Perhentian hotel was erected, there was the legendary moonlight chalet (exact spot where mimpi is now) where so many backpackers from all over the world have stayed in. Moonlight chalet was one of the main reasons why Perhentian kecil island became known to what it is today.

Malaysian beaches are not well known in the western world. We usually think of Thailand and the Philippines when it comes to pristine beaches in Asia. Thanks for sharing, Chris ☺️. Now, another one to add to my bucket list.

The windmill project failed as there wasn't any strong winds to turn it. The gov wasted 12million ringgit (down the drain). So the whole place was abandoned. Including the staircase to the view points.

If you love Perhentian, than you should definitely go to the Semporna Islands. Crystal clear waters with abundant marine life. Also the chance to see first hand the Sea Gypsies aka Bajau Laut, who lead a normadic life in seas of Sabah, Brunei and Indonesian islands.

Most if not all our islands have jetties. It avoid boats anchoring on the beach like in thailand. I mean beach is for humans, not for boats.
