You are not a moron. Language learning is a heavily memory based subject. When I returned to college I’d figured out that I had good memory- long term memory. Short term memory - a bit short on. I wrote down what I needed to memorize and kept it beside me for down time. You’re just reading stuff - once. You’re studying grammar when you don’t have a sufficient foundation of words. Good luck.

Almost all the sentences you guys made using "...한테서" I feel like can just be replaced with "...한테" in conversational Korean and it actually sounds more natural. I think most people just use "...한테". (Plus, not just conversation-correct but also grammatical correct I believe?) So I tried to think of the times when I do use "...한테서" AND it sounds natural... I think the times I would use "...한테서" would be like if someone asked me, "이거 어디서 가져왔어? (Where did you bring/(get) this from?)" and I would answer, "올리한테서." because answering to THAT question with "올리한테." is weird. Additionally, instead of taking the safe bet of using "...한테" = to and using "...한테서" = from, I think it's safer to just use "...한테" for both. But in all honesty, a little disclaimer, I'm not a Korean Language major or anything. I'm just a Korean who spoke English his entire life and only learned Korean through the ear the past few years without any proper grammar training so I might be completely wrong.

종종 from의 의미로 쓰는 "한테서"는 "서"를 빼고 쓸 때도 있어요. 올리님한테는 불행한 소식이겠지만 - 0-;; 그리고 방금처럼 to의 의미로 쓰는 "한테"는 "한테는"이라고 할 때도 있죠. 같은 의미로 "에게(to)", "에게서(from)""에게는(on)" 까지 하면 올리님 머리 터질 듯.
