    Honestly CAM is way more valuable, but it also has a real world skillset that must be mastered at the same time. You can model anything you want. Modeling it so it manufacturable is the key though. At my shop our biggest customer often comes us with projects that are not readily manufacturable. We spend time with them and help them develop the design into some that can be made in a reasonable timeframe/cost. I'm currently making parts for them where they gave us a blank slate as far as design parameters for manufacturability. They told us the end use and what it need to do and let us handle the work of making the parts. Once we has a design that we workable we sent it to them for approval. They were really happy because we were able to make the parts closer to their vision while making is cost effective to make.

    I completely agree with you. CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) is an essential skillset that goes hand in hand with CAD (Computer-Aided Design) to ensure the manufacturability of the designed parts. It's important to consider factors like material selection, tooling, tolerances, and surface finishes while designing a part for manufacturing. Collaboration between designers and manufacturers is crucial to achieve the desired outcome. Thank you for sharing your experience and insight.

    at which specific feature we should expertise in solidworks to create a demand for myself

  • @with-Aryan

    @with-Aryan

    Жыл бұрын

    There are many features in SOLIDWORKS that can be valuable to specialize in, depending on your career goals and the specific needs of your clients or employers. Here are a few areas to consider: Advanced surfacing: Developing expertise in surfacing can be valuable for creating complex, organic shapes and designs. This can be especially useful in industries such as automotive or aerospace. Simulation and analysis: Becoming proficient in simulation and analysis tools can be valuable for verifying and optimizing designs, and can be especially useful in industries such as manufacturing and engineering. Sheet metal design: Developing expertise in sheet metal design can be valuable for creating designs that are optimized for fabrication and assembly, and can be especially useful in industries such as HVAC or architectural metalwork. Assembly design: Becoming proficient in assembly design tools can be valuable for creating complex designs with multiple moving parts or components, and can be especially useful in industries such as robotics or machinery. 3D printing and additive manufacturing: Developing expertise in 3D printing and additive manufacturing can be valuable for creating designs that are optimized for additive manufacturing processes, and can be especially useful in industries such as product design or prototyping. Ultimately, the key to creating demand for yourself as a SOLIDWORKS designer is to develop a strong portfolio of work that demonstrates your expertise in the areas that are most valuable to your clients or employers. By specializing in a few key areas and consistently producing high-quality work, you can establish yourself as a valuable asset to any design team.

    Could I make a mold with clay and then scan it? I’m new into 3d printing and just saw something about scanning objects, or is that cheating? Lol

  • @with-Aryan

    @with-Aryan

    7 ай бұрын

    That is not cheating, since that is exactly how cars are designed. The artist builds the body of the car form clay, and then the CAD engineer takes the scanned clay model, to model the car and take it into manufacturing.

    Good day, I need your advice for switching career change in my live. I completed mechanical engineering bachelor and master degree. After completion I've started working in the chemical and oil&gas field base jobs due to better salary. However now I am tired working in the field so I am thinking to refresh my knowledge in CAD tools and start working as freelance or change my career and work as data scientist (I have programming knowledge, I've learned when I was on sick leave). What will better for me for future?

  • @with-Aryan

    @with-Aryan

    Don't go for pure freelance. Learn a CAD and start building your own product. That's a more promising way if you ask me. But I cannot give you a better advice as it depends on many factors and on yourself

    I have a question, I learned the basics of Catia v5 in University and then I made an internship 5 months and worked with Catia v5, so I improved my skills little bit in this software. Should I stay with Catia and expand my knowledge or would you say jump to solid works and learn solid works? I also relized that Catia v5 is not so transparence, so you always have to try to keep a good Structure in Modeling, Kind regards

    Catia is made by Dassault Systems which is also made by SolidWorks. If you know Catia, you essentially know SolidWorks. All CAD have the same general functionality, meaning if you mastered one, you have essentially mastered all. The only learning curve is understanding the UI.

  • @with-Aryan

    @with-Aryan

    Catia is highly known for its surfacing tools, so if you plan on going into the Class A automotive section of designing you might find it being used. But if you plan on working on mechanisms and general engineering, SOLIDWORKS is preferred due to the speed of its modelling workflows. Thus I would highly recommend going on LinkedIn, and checking out the dream position that you want to reach, and see which software is being used at that company.
