I work with engineering CAD software on a daily basis. It is my job to do so. I cannot wrap my head around the mindset needed to design a free-form design. I have tried to use blender to design simple things. However all my years of experience in SolidWorks, Siemens NX and Fusion 360 are useless the moment I open Blender. The way of working is just completely different to the point that it might as well be the difference between English and Chinese. Yes, you can make similar things with those pieces of software, but you cannot just move from one to the other and expect not to struggle a lot at first. I have a deep respect for people who can create a model with blender using a method I can only describe as sculpting with clay. It's just not for me. My brain doesn't function that way.

Hi there, I have a question. Solidworks is just a tool for design right? Even if we master the tool we still need to master design right? Without knowing design what I am going to do with tools or am I wrong here. If I am correct how to master design, how to have ideas to solve different problems we are going to face in real engineering world?

  • @with-Aryan

You describe and explain things extremely well, without unnecessary details. Many times even before I think logically and put my self in the place of the manufacturer and to ask myself "why would this be like that", you already mentioned it. Your videos are also well made and the content is easy to follow. Nice work and keep going.

NO....Pretty springs will slow you down and do nothing to improve design functionality. Flexible assemblies can sometimes not update correctly. Model springs as a cylinder..if you model them at all...especially if they are dynamic. Nothing worse than presenting a design to customers and watching SW swirl just because you wanted to show a cartoon. You just showed them that you are at the mercy of your software and not in control. This looks cool...but is totally avoided in the real world until DS can recode their software. SW users are used to crashes...but customers don't appreciate it.

Well, calling these tips is a bit of a stretch. Maybe "tools you learned recently?" Also, that hole callout is showing a wrong depth for your holes as the part is only 5mm thick where the holes are. Otherwise, good video.

Do you like to work in multi body or you prefer use assemblies? I design balustrades and i prefer to use multi body and if i have ready made parts i prefer to import in the main part rather than create an assembly, unless there are moving parts like gates, i feel i have more control on my model, what's your thoughts?
