Why do we hate our own voices while others don't even mind.

Let's say you like any burger more than any pizza. If I offered to buy a burger for you but it turned out to be a pizza, would that be somewhat disappointing? The same thing is going on here. You have a higher expectation of how your voice sounds, because you can hear it better. That is why it is disappointing when you hear how others hear your voice. On the other hand, other people never get to hear your bone conducted voice, so they don't expect to hear better than what they are hearing. Thus, they do not mind.

That's how everyone feels about their own voices because of what we're used to hearing when we speak. However, to everyone else, you sound perfectly normal.

Everyone says my voice is REALLY good, my aunt says I have a 'voice' and my friends say that my voice is good, when I record and try to post it, I say: "Eww.. Is that my voice..? It sounds a bit deep.." and then I delete it XD

I know, I hate my voice too.. when i sing I feel like I have a good voice but when I watch the video of me singing.. damn I want to freaking delete it. I cringe so hard. I wish I had Ariana’s voice, then I’d be proud of my own singing.

I think my voice sounds weird

I'm a singer so I've gotten used to hearing my voice over and over again. After awhile you just get used to it. But I still kinda hate it when I talk and I go 'wow do I really sound like this..?'

I speak like I have a deep voice but when i hear it through a recording i sound like an innocent girl with a cracking voice. (Im a girl) I always feel like my voice doesnt fit my face and i get anxiety from it omg help

I actually always thought that I was squeaky and was really self-conscious of it up until about 16 where I was told that I have a very deep voice and in some cases I sounded black. The reason why I heard my voice like this though was probably because I always despised my extremely squeaky voice before I hit puberty, which I hit pretty hard.

I had the same question! I mean what about film actors? Like both hearing and seeing yourself at the same time must be so weird! In that case, it's makes sense why some hate watching their own movies.

Urgh I thought I was the only one I do audios with my friend them I barely listen to them cus it sounds so deep
