    I think my voice stayed this way because I was always afraid of being too loud, and when you add that Edge in, you get louder normally so I avoided that all my life, now I am 19 and I sound like a 9 year old. The thing is will my brain get used to this and convert this to my natural voice, or do I have to keep working hard to get this sound? EDIT AFTER 3 YEARS: I am now 22 years old, my voice has stayed the same, but I am in peace with myself now. A LOT of people compliment how smooth and nice my voice is, and that it is different in a good way. Learn to embrace your insecurities people. It gets better.

    My voice sounded like a 9 year old, too, until I was about 22 or 23. For me, what worked was trying to find my own sound, and then learning to accept/embrace my voice. Other thing that helps is working on breathing. A person can really add warmth or brightness depending on the breath. Another thing a great singer told me was that to find your real voice, try singing like you're telling somebody off, or really trying to convey something to them. With these three things: embracing your voice, breathing, and not being afraid to let out what you feel will really help (in my opinion). Keep on singing and think about how much fun it is for you...after all, that's the best part!

    I’m 35 and 196cm (6’5). I have beard and always look angry to some people but when I speak I sound like a 14 teenage boy and most people don’t take me seriously when I speak. The thing is when I’m silent and use gesture to communicate they seem to be serious of me because of my look but when I speak they change their behaviour. Sometimes when I try to deepen my voice to sound normal like my friends I still sound like a 14 year old boy trying hard to deepen his voice to mock an adult. It’s the worst and awkward.

    It might help you to lower the larynx by yawning slightly instead of moving your tongue. Just a slight yawn and drop your larynx more only until it feels comfortable. Also with the edge sound it might help to not exaggerate it as much and try to keep the airflow through mouth not the nose. You can use your fingers to close your nose and make sure it's going through the mouth.

    so for those of us who do all sorts of voices and impressions must be crazy. Honestly though, I discovered Roger prob 15-20 years ago and to this day i recommend his teachings to other aspiring singers as I tell them I learned SO much from him - probably more than the 3 years of vocal classes in college!

    @@CoinCollectorUAE A slight yawn can help lower the larynx too (see for yourself in a mirror), but don't constantly keep the larynx in an unnaturally low position, just allow it to rest comfortably in your throat. Also the edge he is talking about basically means that the vocal folds aren't making much contact, so relaxing your larynx (and your neck and shoulders) will help with the closure of these. The vocal folds not making much contact can also cause damage your voice as it dries the larynx and can result in a raspy voice.

    Breathing technique also plays an important role, you need a book or his method to learn all of it As voice manipulators, singers and voice actors we can decide exactly how we'd like to sound, and you can do the same with a bit of daily practice, either buy his excellent method or book and go through it or get a singing or backing exercise on youtube an practice 10 15min daily talking rapping or singing what he demonstrated over it

    My voice was abnormally high even for a child. I got mocked all the time because of it. Had a voice teacher when I was ten. She recorded me while I didn’t know she was doing it. She played it back and I was so embarrassed to hear it. I asked her to stop playing it. But why did I sound like that? I didn’t benefit from her help. I was wondering if my hearing was way off because when I speak I hear a normal voice. But when I hear myself speak from a recorder, I sound completely different. It seems there is a disconnect from my hearing and my brain somehow. It’s been a lifelong curse. I can lower my voice, but it sounds artificially low in my ear and not at all like myself or what I perceive to be normal. I wish I knew what was wrong with me. I’m now in my 60’s.

  • @RogerLoveVocals

    @RogerLoveVocals

    Жыл бұрын

    First of all, I'm so sorry that you didn't get better counsel when you were younger. But be encouraged. I may not be able to solve everything here in a YT comment, but let me at least address some of your questions. As far as recording your voice goes, you will never hear yourself in the same way as a recording does. The reason is that what you hear when you speak is a result of bone conduction and directional sound. Your brain is actually getting more information about your own voice from the vibrations in your head when you make sound. And the sound that does leave your mouth is going away from you. The recording (depending on the quality of the device) gives a more accurate version of what other people hear because sound is directional. It is headed toward them and they don't get the added bone conduction from their own heads that you do. Regarding how artificial your voice sounds to you when you lower it, remember that you've been producing sound that way all these years and your brain is programmed to "recognize" you. Anything else will seem odd even if it's a result of better vocal production techniques. Here's my advice... Do the vocal exercises I outline here and lower the voice (even if it feels artificial at first). Then record yourself so you can see if you like the sound that others hear better than when you speak as you have been. Dial in the sound you like. Record often to measure your progress. After a while your brain will reprogram itself to associate the new bone conduction sounds as your "new normal." It takes time, but other than overcoming the years of vocal habits, age is not a factor. You can do this! Not exhaustive, but hope this helps, 😊

    First of all, don't be discouraged. Though some people's voices change earlier than others, it will eventually. Have you found the other vids/posts I have on here about "speaking with authority" or "adding edge" to your voice. Also try searching for any of the posts about low larynx exercises. Learning how to drop the jaw and lower the larynx will help shorten and thicken the vocal cords which will result in a deeper pitch. That's essentially the first step in developing your chest voice.

    I’m 20 and my voice just can randomly change from a semi high pitched 17 year old to a deeper voice that sounds like a guy going into his 30s. I can also do voice impressions so I can control my voice when I think about it and it can range anywhere from a deep dark menacing voice to a chipmunk so I have a lot of range but still. Sometimes pre-teen girls sound deeper than me sometimes. Idk why my natural voice changes. I don’t even talk that much which is weirder. I’m usually pretty quiet. Also no my voice doesn’t change like a voice crack. It doesn’t happen mid conversation. Just for a few hours I’ll have a way deeper voice and then later after not speaking I’ll speak again and have a lighter voice. Idk why it does that.

So we first realise that we are going to speak and then our natural voice will come. Try it and think about it. I say 100 % this is caused by psychological reasons . I’m gonna be honest, whenever I try to get my adams apple to go lower, it just ends up sounding like I’m trying too hard and not like my voice is genuinely deeper.

    @Quetzalcoatl I don’t know. To me it still sounds high, but people say my voice is deeper.

    @Quetzalcoatl I don't have any co-workers, and I hardly trust my family, but it does come from them mostly yes.

    @Quetzalcoatl The problem though is, it doesn't, and that's what I don't get. I'll listen back to it in a recording and it sounds Deeper in the recording than it does to me when I'm speaking.
