This week I head north to collect our new engine - but how this engine came about is genuinely humbling and we’re extremely grateful.

Oh Danni and Joe , you’ve had us in tears. Thank you for putting together such an awesome video. We are thrilled to have been able to play it forward and to a nicer couple it couldn’t have gone. May she get you to all the places you want to visit and create many many memories. All our love and see you both soon. Out there on the cut xx. Ali and Jon P.S. Many thanks for all the lovely messages. We are so very blessed xx

We’ll definitely cross paths again - with the better half next time! 😂 honestly can’t say thank you enough & we’ll be passing the gift on as you’ve done for us, just figuring out how! Thanks for your time it was amazing to meet you! xx
The phrase you were looking for early in the video: "Cutting off your nose to spite your face". I decided to look up the origin of the saying and found this online: The exact idiom did not appear in print until the 1700's. However, the idea of causing yourself more harm than your enemy goes back as far as a Latin proverb in the year 1200. Male ulciscitur dedecus sibi illatum, qui amputat nasum suum. He who cuts off his nose takes poor revenge for a shame inflicted on him. On a completely separate matter, amazing people you seem to get to meet on the waterways - Narrow boat Warrior - in a battle of his own, but keeping going and giving you an engine.
Joe what a great video. I did see you on James’ video as well. He was so happy to see you and literally ran off his boat to meet you. But I must say, it’s all about paying it forward. And I’m certain you will do that Joe just as you help others whenever you can. It was so nice to have someone pay it forward to you. What a wonderful couple. I will pray for miracle to heal John’s cancer.
Very heart warming video. The very best to that lovely couple who gave you the engine.

Yeah I really wish them well they’re amazing people!
I can’t think of the correct words to describe the kindness you’ve been shown. Sometimes, we don’t realise that we walk in the company of angels on this earth. God bless all - stay strong.

Very well put! They’re so lovely and I struggle to express how grateful we are!
Born in 52, In 95 I quit my job in research and set off around Australia as a folksinger! went 8 times round over 10 years in my old kombi! Live your dreams now, hey?
The kindness of strangers can never be overlooked. No matter how cynical we may be about the world and the people we share it with, there is always someone that renews our faith in the basic decency we have all been born to achieve. Pay it forward, be kind, life isn't a contest, it's at best a fun-fair. In the end, none of us are anything more than the memories we've left in someone else's minds. The only way to live beyond your mortal span is to insure that everyone whose lives were touched by yours remembers you as someone kind. Bill & Ted had it right, actually--as corny as they were at expressing it. Everyone has the capability of being heroes. Live every moment, wring every joy from it that you can, make the most of every day. Enjoy every sunrise, every sunset, every cup of coffee, every beer, every loaf of bread, every experience--only fate knows which one will be your last. As the Doctor once said, "we're all just memories in the end. Make sure it's a good one..." --Dan
Jenni and I were made up to meet you on Aleecia 11 , whilst on our way to Cropredy. Thanks for help locking, look forward to seeing that new engine go in ……think of all the spares you will have :-)
There words ring a cord with us, retired at 59 wanting to enjoy our retirement and do some travelling managed to do a fair bit but early 23 our lives changed forever my wife diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer I was diagnosed 2 weeks later with a kidney tumour had it removed and fortunately was caught early. But my wife is in palliative care and thankfully in remission. I can only say live your dreams know

Hi Joe I have always thought of the narrow boat community as one big family, always there to look out for one another. This story is just another example about how this special family has shown support. Jon and Ali are two very special people in the narrow boat community just like the previous owner (Mick Sheehan) of Nesha's boat (Driftwood Folk channel). Joe, do keep in mind why John and Ali gifted you and Danni with this special gift. Hopefully some day you will be able to reach out and reciprocate. Go safe and I will be sitting beside the canal waiting for your next video.. Mark Alberta, Canada

Joe/Danni, that special time will occur when you least expect it, just as it did for Jon and Ali. It may not be tomorrow, or next year or ten years from now but the opportunity for you to reciprocate will happen. Experience and age has taught me that. You two are already beginning to be known by the boating community as they speak of you. May you be healthy while you grow old and grey while traveling the canals. Mark Alberta, Canada@@DanniandJoe
I love the “Beer of the Week”. I love tasting new beers too. How fun!

What a couple, John and Ali ❤️ to you both
Wonderful heart warming video. A Few to many years ago my sister and I travelled to the UK. We cycled along many a canal and even in the sunny weather we had there were muddy parts to walk. A chance to slow down and talk. The ones I didn't like were where there was just a narrow foot wide deep track. Or what we call a sheep track. I'm small and ride a small(short height) bike. Several times my pedal caught the side of a deep sheep track, and over she goes. Lying on the weeds and rushes eyeing the canal water isn't the memory one expects to bring back! Hehehe😂. Kia ora from New Zealand. Remember the swans to...scary beasties!
That's a touching story that I can relate to. Wonderful people those two! I watch James's channel too and saw how stoked he was when he saw you coming up on his last vid. Cheers!
Good to see you pal - best of luck getting that engine in
What a lovely couple and im sure you will think of them when you are traveling around the network of canals using the engine ❤❤.
Nice one Joe ,like me improvise and survive 😊l opted out in1975 and never looked back.l used to fish at Sileby when l was a kid .

What a mint bloke… I hope he’s well.
The canal community is always helpful, but this couple has gone above & beyond !!!!!! Restores faith in people. Out of interest, how is your lithium battery performing???
What a wonderful gesture from John & Ali and best wishes to them. A huge improvement on your old engine which must be a constant source of worry for you after the problems with it over winter. Would be great if you can get the skin tanks replaced at the same time, it a golden opportunity when the engine is removed, good luck with it Joe.

I fell into the River Soar at Sileby Mill and imbibed about a third of a teaspoonful of Soarwater. On that cocktail of bugs and chemicals I have never been so ill and continued wretching for hours on a completely empty stomach whilst aching everywhere and running a huge fever. The doctor said some people with a weaker resistance would have died. BTW the "i" in Sileby is like "eye". I went to school there.
Real good episode. The couple who donated their engine are really special people. Best of luck to them in the future. My day used to take me to the tavern quite often when I was growing up and he always gave a couple of shakes of salt into his beer. Maybe that's what made hm thirstier and he would drink too damn much, lol. But that's a different story. Take care. Enjoy your content here in the US.
What a lovely and generous couple x Hope Danni doing well keep up the good work and look after yourself Joe xx

Fabulous vlog, Fabulous couple! So happy for you
Sometimes Angels do truly walk among us ❤ Wishing many more happy hours of cruising on the rivers to Jon and Ali; and looking forward to hearing the sweet purr of a better engine as we cruise along with Danni and Joe - when you can find an empty week in your hectic schedule! 👏👏👏 The bread looked fantastic 😋.
Good day from NZ, lovely to hear your accents, Bristol folk are you?, only forty miles down m4 from where I was born. Brilliant trip managing your vessel alone then a road trip. I have really enjoyed this vid and will view your others, I do love seeing the old countryside canals and rivers upon which I spent many hours happily fishing as a lad. I often wish I could go back for a trip but one thing or another prevents that. Have to laugh as I find myself muttering advice to you, as a mechanic of roughly 60 years would love to be able to help you but honestly you are a very adaptable, sensible young man. Anyway I struggle sometimes to do up my shoelaces hehehe. Looking forward to viewing further uploads, well done and good luck from us both. Hooray for now ...... Rob n Ann
Lovely video guys
A pinch of salt will take a bit of the bitterness off. Works the same way with coffee. Just a pinch.
Posh Coffee! We have been putting in salt for over a hundred years in our coffee. Cowboy Coffee.Cowboy Kettle full of water add coffee to the water, boil, add cold water and salt to settle the grounds then pour yourself a cup.
Fantastic couple.
What a lovely couple. Wishing them both good health, wealth, and continuous joy. Great video Joe.
Wow. Such kind and inspiring people in the world. Was really choked up watching that. What a fantastic couple ❤
Really heart warming vid, thoughts with the couple, can’t wait to see the engine fit vid

A very nice couple , and I do hope they have a very very long retirement together 👍👍👍👍🫵👌👍🫵👌👍🍺🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
Job well done! Kudos to John and Allie for their kindness. John will be in my prayers.
Awwww do 🙏things can work out well for them what kindness is so very rare you have been blessed tc now every one the oldies 😔
Sending my very best wishes for Jon and Ali, what a perfect gift to receive Thank you so much to you both. Unfortunately it is so true, so many live wishing their life adventures away until retirement and no longer able to fully enjoy those dreamed adventures fully. Please don’t! Go out there and enjoy great adventures, living life to your fullest and being kind. Life isn’t living to work, it’s more working a little to live a lot or having/learning the skills to help fund the adventures. 🤗
Joe, That was a hell of a Vlog. So glad he decided to let you have that engine, 😊
Great vid Joe! 👌 was lovely to see Jon and Ali gifting you a nice new engine....there is some lovely people in the world ❤. All the best to them 😊. Enjoyed the vid as always, loved the singing n dancing in the van lol 😂xx
What a lovely couple, we met the last owner of warrior and was considering buying it... lovely boat.
this was a corker! well done Joe! ♥️🙌🏻 loved it. So glad you’ve got the engine and from the best people! ☺️ a great message we also feel so strongly about! ❤ lots of love
Hi Danni and Joe. Fabulous video looks very it. Hope your both ok ❤❤❤X
It’s pronounced si al bee 😂😂 and that’s so awesome of them bless them. Good luck with the engine swap 👍🏼👍🏼
Speechless! Such a wonderful gesture from John & Elli. I hope I got their names correct. Good tears and such a motivational video, Joe. Best.
You are so dang lucky
Good Engine by the looks of it. It will make your boat sound more like a narrow boat too!! Job well done!! Good luck with it all. And thanks for sharing your lovely surprise. John
What a lovely thoughtful couple.💚 Good luck with the engine transfer. Say hi to Jo. 💚
Brilliant vlog and yes not a truer word spoken. Life is too short. I still hope to do a narrow or wide beam life once my treatment ends this year. Hopefully. Very well put together. Best wishes
What a lovely heartwarming video and an amazing gesture from John and Ali. Yes you should definitely live your dreams tomorrow is never promised. I got a cancer diagnosis at 49 in 2020 and am recovering from a recent operation. I had so many plans for adventures and travel which have all been put on hold though hopefully not indefinitely. And yes life insurance with critical illness cover would definitely be helpful if you do face an unexpected illness. Looking forward to seeing Danni next week.
Love this so much, heartwarming ❤❤ but I agree we’ll deserved, such a nice couple,☺️

In the US salt on a beer glass or can was very common years ago. My grandfather and his buddies always had a salt shaker handy if they were enjoying a cold one out on the porch in the summer.
Good luck to that couple

Enjoyed watching Mike, thanks for the GPX looked a cracking day out. Definitely worth a ride and maybe back my way on the TET. Rode a couple of the lanes on our return back from riding the Dutch and Belgian TET routes back before the COVID lockdown. 👍🏻
So great for you to meet James. I kept thinking you might run into each other.
Great video Joe. Your last one was incredible with all your different shots of you driving the boat. It must have been exhausting! Being from America, I oftener wondered why your toe paths are paved for as long as they have been around and the amount of people that use them! Give Danni our love ❤
We love watching your vlogs, this amazing couple have given you an engine, real stars, why do the nice people get cancer?? Would you consider putting a small solar panel on the boat just to keep the starting battery in good nick. Keep smiling Tony & Helen, Tenbury Wells. (Your bread is the dogs bollocks, looks so good)😊😊
Lovely Vlog Joe, now I’ve watched it in its entirety after just landing from being away on our NB. I only got to the beer tasting bit 🤦♂️🤣then had to sort stuff as you do. I recon a new pair of Leopard Print shorts are in order for the Summer mind 😎👍🏼
I can resonate well with @Nbwarrioronthecut. What a beautiful yet sad story. I truly believe actions are worth more than money. I have very recently at the age of 57 had 3 minor heart attacks, so now i am in the slow lane for a bit. Life should be enjoyed not endured! I follow you as it is nice to see two young people living in a way that doesn't require a huge amount of money, giving you guy's more you time.
It's pronounced Si-el-bee! love the content thanks for keeping me going!
Was that the short history podcast you was listening to? Great video as always.
Good luck on your engine swap…stay safe!!

Amazing video and story been loving your videos. Slight difference note who was it you recommended for boat insurance
A really lovely vlog, such a kind couple to give you their engine, and it really makes you think, life is for living as you just don't know what's around that corner 😢 We hope that Jon will be OK and sending him good wishes. The narrowboat community is such a great one, people helping each other warms my heart. Thankyou for sharing with us. A quick question joe how did the cratch cleaning product work? Did it clean off all the green marks? We have the same problem and I'm looking for something that works. Take care and love your vlogs. Allison narrowboat pica pica xx
Hi Joe Would you consider doing a video about taking the engine out and putting the new one in. Mark Alberta, Canada
I can take my pension in 2 years time after 37 years of paying in. We are but a small speck of dust in time. Make the most of it. x
My mum had a similar experience, retired for and 3 months and had a life changing stroke 😢 anyway Bread! How long can you keep it For? I've only tried flat breads so far so the smaller the batch the Better! Freezing didn't work out well rolled out, as did plain Dough! Love your channel mate, with luck I may get my own canal boat one day! And hi from my mum who's just seen your video 👍👍
Ever since I’ve owned a boat ive met some amazing people, must be a boat thing 😂 What an amazing couple, such a great gesture ❤ Love a Moretti, I definitely approve 🍺. Joe how is the solar cruising going ?
Great. XXX
What a lovely couple John and Allie are. A very humbling video and thank you for sharing and that engine will make all the difference to your cruising. I thought you had sold your blue multi coloured campervan. I watched it on fleebay and thought you had sold it. Did you keep it and is this the one you are working on shortly?
Probably one of your best ever choices to use Aylesbury club dry Dock the best ever facilities I have used make sure to leave it clean when you leave unlike the people that used it before me last time I was in there
Enjoyed this one guys. John could be David Gilmour's brother. He probably hears that a lot. Cheers!
Also Joe how did you start the engine with the flat battery? Skills!
Sileby is said - Sy-ul-Bee ☺️ just down the road from me!😊
nice
What an inspirational video. Ellie sounds a bit South African and if so I wanted to say Ubuntu Ellie. God Bless you guys. 😊

There after 12:22 talking about the beer of the week, my brain like to do a thing with words or phrases, if Posh Coffee was a band's name, what would they play?
