Why would Palestinians want a return to 1948?

The chant "We don't want no two state, we want '48" rejects the two-state solution and harks back to a time before the state of Israel existed. But why?

Even pro Palestinians never say that there was an official state of Palestine, but the land was known as Palestine since at least the 1800s. By helping overthrow the Ottoman Empire, the Palestinian Arabs were promised independence, but were placed under a British mandate until 1948. Regardless of whether or not there was ever an official state of Palestine, Palestinians have the right to return to their homeland and rule themselves autonomously.

Sure. They have the right to space, Israel has the right to space. Palestinians have the right to negotiate their space and every negotiation offers them more than it offers Israel. Every negotiation results in either a direct military attack on Israel or a terror based intifada. Palestinians deserved space, but they’ve repeatedly lost space trying to annihilate Israel entirely, because that’s the only solution they want. If you lose a war you start, you are not a victim of anything but your own hatred. The repeated calls for peace and space for Palestine never take into account that they don’t want peace. They want to repeat October 7th until Israel is gone.

İf you want some facts Not really Even though the ottoman empire did control the land (they taxed it ) But the people living on the land have land ownership documents and worked on the land Second the British promised those people owning/living on the land that they can have a state (called Palestine) Third the British also promised Zionists the land (and call it Israel) The difference is one people (that call themselves Palestinians)worked on the land and lived on it The Zionists where in Europe (İ will let you decide who has a clam here) Fourth when the British broke there promise with the Arabs (Muslims, christians, and Jewish) and allowed Jewish mass migration (note the Arabs living on the land didn't accept the occupation by the British and there was no democracy what so ever) Sixth when the Zionists took over Palestine they didn't create a fair government instead they decided to kick out all the Palestineans from there land And never allowed any Arab come back to his house the house he built and lived in for years And Rightfully those 700000 people kicked out in 1948 tried to fight back again and again (not because they are terrorists because they were kicked out of there houses and had no were to live ) Let's say California was invaded by Muslims Then after 76 years told the Californiaens there is nothing called California it was for the native Americans and America colonized it for 300 years And the Muslims kicking every American out of California and never letting them go back because the British promised the Muslims this land (America was colonized by britch for a while)

The Jews residing in the area also fought with the British. Look up the Jewish Brigade. And the British have promised the land to the Jews countless times. The thing is there were, for many years, both Jews and arabs living in the area. Further Jews came following the holocaust and the violent expulsion of Jews from Arab countries, and further Arabs came from Egypt and Syria seeking employment in the British mandated land. The Brits were promising the land to both groups. At the end, the Jews, who had spent all this time legally buying land and developing it, agreed to share the land in a two state solution. The Arabs, who only showed interest in the land once others started developing it (those were wastelands before), didn’t. Don’t show only half of the history.

There never was a ‘state of Palestine’ … there was a British mandate of Palestine which expired in May 1948 which is why the British in 1947 turned the issue over to the UN which passed a resolution to partition ‘Jewish lands’ and ‘Arab lands (since the Arabs didn’t refer to themselves as Palestinians… the Israelis accepted and declared their state in May 1948 and the Arabs chose war with Israel and lost.

Your misleading a lil with that addendum at the end… The partition split was between ‘Jewish lands’ & ‘Arab Lands’ were referred to as such as both groups were considered Palestinian(having lived in the British mandate of Palestine). Ntm you leave out the partitions gave much of the best land the area had and given the population ration a lot more of it. The official declaration of the independence of Israel was also preview before the Nakbah ethnic cleansing campaign the main reason for the following war Do kurds not deserve a state? Did the croats/Slovenes deserve theirs in the 90s? Just because a nationality hasnt had an represented government doesnt remove their right to self determination.

HASBARA BS!!!. The Romans got it from the Greeks. The term "Palestine" appeared in the 5th century BC when the ancient Greek historian Herodotuswrote of a "district of Syria, called Palaistinê" between Phoenicia and Egypt in The Histories. Herodotus applied the term to both the coastal and the inland regions such as the Judean mountainsand the Jordan Rift Valley. Later Greek writers such as Aristotle, Polemon and Pausaniasalso used the word, which was followed by Roman writers such as Ovid, Tibullus, Pomponius Mela, Pliny the Elder, Dio Chrysostom, Statius, Plutarch as well as Roman Judean writers Philo of Alexandriaand Josephus. -And actually the origin of the word dates back to “1150 BC: Medinet Habu (temple): records a people called the P-r-s-t (conventionally Peleset) among those who fought against Egypt in Ramesses III's reign.”

Before the British Mandate in Palestine, it was "South Syria" under the Ottoman Empire. Before that, the territory was controlled by Egyptians, Romans, Greeks, and yes even Jews. That’s true but the modern state of Israel is less legitimate than a Palestinian state because the vast majority of Israelis either migrated to the land or their parents or grandparents migrated to the land whereas the Palestinians are descended from people who were already in the land before Jews came from Europe and started massacring them and ethnically cleansing the land. Having said that, the reality is that now both have been in the land for generations, the Palestinians longer than the Israelis, and kicking either out of the land at this point should not be a suitable option. However, what Israel is currently intending to do to the Palestinians is just that. Just because the Palestinians have never had a state doesn’t mean they’ve never had a homeland. They were in the land longer than the Jews currently there. They were just ruled over by the British and before that, the Ottomans, and before that, other Islamic caliphates because of the Arab Muslim invasion of the Middle East. In my view, we should not judge this matter based upon who had statehood in a land in the past. Neither Israel nor Palestine had statehood before 1948, and when Israel was created, many Jews migrated there and took not only the land allotted to them but more than that, even though most in the land before that were Arabs. So we should not judge based upon who had historical statehood, but we should judge based upon the well-being of the people who currently exist and seek justice for all. If Jews deserved statehood in 1948 when the British left, then Palestinians also deserve statehood. And today, more and more countries are recognizing Palestinian statehood. If that’s all Israel needed for statehood was international recognition, then that’s all Palestine needs as well.

Literally not true. Palestine has never existed. in 1948, the region was being ruled by Ottoman and Jordinian empires. British invented palestine because they knew they needed oil to win wars and they wated to appease the muslim states. Second, in the actual naqba of 7th century, barely 10% of jews left the land. Most jews that are living there have always lived there. Third, the jewish state goes back 3500 years before Islam and Christianity was even a religion. And no it was not renamed palestina. palestina was the name given to a fort of the romans in one tiny village from where the combines Roman and Persian attack had been launched on israel. The Persians, Egyptians, and all other countries continued to refer to it as Judea/ Canan/ israel etc. And then ottoman and Syrian empires took control. THERE WAS NEVER a PALESTINE before 1900's when colonial nonsense invented it. Moreover, Palestinians are known to weaponise self determination. look up the fidayeen, And the civil wars and bloodhsed they started demanding a palestinians state from Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and TUnisia. It is a made up political ideology, nothing else. palestine has not right to israeli land. I like how Hamashole justification of this squatting and terrorism always comes down to "hey we did a lebensraum of Jews in their own homeland" and eugenics. How much more nazi can you get?

Jewish migration to the Mandate of Palestine began in the 1830’s and picked up in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s until the Second World War which would see them migrating on mass. The video earlier even stated that the Jews have been in the land and were fighting to get the British out. There were around 200,000 Jews living in the British Mandate of Palestine before the events of WWII.

@@joshuakausmann5504 those numbers also weren’t natural migration. they were being deported by other nations or attempting to flee discriminatory states. the land, which Britain illegally occupied, could’ve become a peaceful territory. instead of that, Britain promised both populations their own state. The colonial admin made no attempt to ensure peace between Palestinians, a population comprised of Jews, Muslims, and Christians mind you, and new arrivals from Europe. The new arrivals used their superior support from the British to exploit the situation. the Jews were a minority before WW2, and they were a minority after. however, they were given a totalitarian diktat over the region. much like how Americans have cause many conflicts by giving the Shia or Sunni minorities of a region absolute control over their religiously and ethnically distinct neighbors. remember, Britain’s original plan was for Israel to have the entire levant essentially.

But Israel should also stop bombing civilians and humanitarian aid. And you know, the whole ethnic cleansing. The last Palestinian election was in 2006. For all but 6 months of the last 73 YEARS, Israel has occupied Palestine in what experts are now calling an 'apartheid state'. You remember apartheid, yeah? South African genocide? Fun fact, the International Criminal Court is issuing Netanyahu an arrest warrant for violating the Rome Statute and participating in genocide against the Palestinian people and Israeli arabs. Hamas =/= All Palestinians. If you were being oppressed for decades, your land and homes stolen, your movement restricted, your family relocated and denied basic human rights, Israeli arabs being denied citizenship, seeing your friends and family slaughtered by an occupying force....what would you do? Would you politely ask them for your rights, or vote for a group promising to defend you and give back the rights you've been denied? We know what the US chose, but I'm gonna take a guess that you don't have a problem with that detail. Most Palestinians and Pro Palestine protestors and supporter do NOT support Hamas, I would even guess that the majority of Palestinians would be okay with a two state solution if it meant stopping the violence and murder and death. Unfortunately, Netanyahu has said he wants all Palestinians "wiped from the face of the earth completely," considering Palestinians "inhuman animals." Where else have we heard of an an entire group of people being labeled sub human/animals/infestations? I'll let you figure that bit out. These people are angry. They are terrified for their lives, and one of the biggest militaries in the world is supporting Israel. So many people believe the propaganda that Jewish people can't commit genocide because hitler (oh hey, its the answer from up there ^), and their homes and hospitals and schools continue to be bombed, their children continue to live in a literal war zone, and the international community continues to do nothing. You'd be angry and scared too. You'd be looking for any help you can get too. The last time Palestine had an election was 2006. 18 years ago. Imagine if Trump or Biden (whatever side you're on) was president for 18 years and kept registries of all minorities and sectioned off certain areas of cities minorities are allowed to live in. If you were one of those minorities, how would you feel then? I am not defending Hamas. Their actions are reprehensible. But to have that opinion when Hamas does it but not when Israel does it is pure hypocrisy. One can understand why a thing exists without condoning or supporting that thing, and just because a group has experienced genocide in the past does not mean they are incapable of committing genocide themselves.

1948? In 1948, neither palestine nor israel existed as a sovereign state. In 1946, neither jordan nor israel nor palestine existed as a sovereign state. Well i wonder what exactly does *we want 1948* slogan mean for these protesters Do they want british to rule that region again? 😁

Why did Reagan believe that the Israelis were "Illegally and Immorally" occupying Palestinian land? (His words.) Why did he let the U.N. pass 21 resolutions condemning Israel? Why did he take Hafez al-Assad's side over Israel once? Why did he even take Saddam Hussein's side over Israel once? Because he wasn't a Leftist Neocon America Last and Israel First lunatic who put the interests of the Democratic Party Colony that calls itself Israel over his own country.

I seem to remember the French being so butthurt by being taken over by the Nazis that the leader signed off on as many as 120,000 dead French citizens when Americans warned them they were invading Normandy... Only 60,000 French citizens were killed by the end of the struggle. Funny, French seemed wildly butthurt then.
