    My general English teacher actually forced us to watch hannah gatsby. I forgot which one but halfway through the entire thing was just her screaming and crying like a baby. Anyways we were supposed to write about what we thought and how we can improve our upcoming speeches. So I basically wrote a 700 word essay on how unfunny it was and how no one wants to watch a comedian cry and scream instead of making others laugh

    I can't give you the Venom or Dune points. I agree what you're saying is important. And I believe in showing, not telling. REGARDLESS, I still like both movies, and I think they're both solid, good stories. Particularly speaking of Dune, Denis Villeneuve is one of the best when it comes to immersion, setting you up intricately, so your mind meets the beat of the film. We can't complain about wanting originality and innovative films, if we continuously completely discard any attempt at making them. We'd more than likely have a fully finished Blade Runner trilogy by now, if we as an audience didn't want everything cut, dry and simple. Not every film has to work the same. And I honestly didn't mind taking so long to know Eddie's character. I think the stretched intro is worth every minute, because you really get to know Eddie and his nature perfectly

    I agree with you on dune as well. Dune is a complicated story and I think requires a smoother intro into its world than an action scene as its first but that’s just my opinion. If you’re already in the theater, you’re not going to walk out because of an intro giving some interesting background.

  • @atunrandom7765

    @atunrandom7765

    7 күн бұрын

    @RileyLechmaier-jj4fl Dune Part Two works almost entirely in the opposite direction. I dislike the Nolan-like speeding through the story and lack of immersion. Unlike the first part, there's a lot more telling rather than showing after the beginning of the film. No doubt, a pressure laid on by the studio attributed to these types of opinions (the channel's). Still a great movie, with exceptional, defining scenery and effects. But it's just too rushed for me. I don't buy the chemistry between Timothy and Zendaya, nor am I into their love story. I don't get why introduce all these characters just to kill them. On that last note, I'm unaware of when the adaptation strays from the original story, and maybe it's just a matter of loyalty to it. But even then, what I do know is the extent of events and eras in the books. Maybe said events take proper time to settle in, instead of being flashed in your face. Still a great story too, just rushed, essentially.

    @@miniaturejayhawk8702 You're on the right track. Comedy doesn't HAVE to be offensive to be funny, but for it to really, REALLY hit the top level of greatness, there must be the perception that there are no limits. Once it is known that you absolutely will not say something non-woke, then your comedy is handicapped.

    *preface* I’m not defending Hannah Gadsby’s “comedy”. It doesn’t take a social person to put on a performance to a bunch of nameless, faceless boxes of noise. That’s essentially what the crowd is. It’s not a real social interaction, it’s a rehearsed, pre-written performance. The best public speaker in our school growing up was a kid who was notoriously antisocial. He was terrible at interacting with people, he made zero friends, but he could write words down and perform them in front of large groups with near prodigious oratory skill. He was also a whiz on piano, but he had shortcomings in other basic areas of life, especially social, due to his autism. Also, it seems you’re forgetting the most obvious example of a social idiot being amazing at public speaking. He was an Austrian man who was pretty popular in Germany in the 1930s-1940s.

    I used to work in the national office of one of the biggest corporations in the world. During a lunchbreak with team members we were talking about movies. I discovered that I was the only one who had seem some famous movie from the 90s. I don't even remember which movie it was, but one of those movies that seems so iconic that it's strange to meet someone who hasn't seen it (from a certain age group). Let's say it was Home Alone or the Terminator. I jokingly said, "Guys, you have to watch Home Terminator. Your life has no meaning without it." Anyway, some woman reported me to HR because I told her, "Her life has no meaning." Though to be fair, if you can't understand a hyperbolic joke about a movie maybe your life really doesn't have any meaning.

    That got me to laugh a little.....and then a lot. It's true. That's where the woke works great for the small community, but not at large. They laugh to support and because they HAVE to laugh and support. They cancel because they are told who to NOT laugh at. And want confirmation. Logically I don't think anyone could laugh that consistently and perfectly with her timing on things that are just sentences and not even jokes or humor. But then I read comments of how great and funny and how they laughed and cried. I think its mostly grandstanding, but I can easily see them going to that extent to sell it to themselves. And...if that's you. Great. But understand as you disagree, others should be able to as well. And that should be that. Think of how crappy society is and especially will be with you being controlled to laugh and not laugh. To losing your job, to going to prison 9r being executed. And these types lap that stuff up. Canceling. Wishing death. All in the name of righteousness. While most of their informed opinions are based on lies. But they must believe anything said, because not doing so means you are one of them. I almost want to start practicing sniffing my own facts to get used to being forced to live underground. Like a nukular war with no bombs, just their comedy routines and their loudspeakers. As you wait for the Religiously Foreshadowed Solar Flare to rise out from the ashes.

    I was at a comedy show in NYC a few months ago. There were 4 guys doing sets. 1 was Hispanic, 2 were black, the headliner, David Smalley, was white. All of their sets were just the same old tiring “white-guilt/shitting on white people” bits. Don’t get me wrong, I can laugh hysterically at all forms of stereotyping, but when it’s that one-sided, it stops being funny after about 10-15 minutes of it. Because, eventually, you know the same joke is coming over and over again. We get it, “white man bad.” Now tell me a joke about how women are bad, how straight people are bad, how gay people are bad, how martians are bad. Literally anything else will do! I don’t necessarily blame the comics for situation. What I do blame is the wokeness in society today. These comics nowadays are constantly walking on eggshells, especially the ones still trying to make a name for themselves. They’re too afraid to make jokes about the minority groups because they’re afraid the woke mafia is going to come after them and destroy their careers and lives. So they have to go the safe route and only make fun of whites to keep living paycheck to paycheck. Because that’s the only thing that’s safe to do in comedy anymore that’ll actually fetch a laugh or two. It’s just a really lousy time for stand-up comedy these days. The up-and-comers can’t be original and edgy because cancellation is always around the corner and the established comedians can’t write new stuff that’s as funny as their old stuff for the very same reasons.
