Bought a crazy horse belt and just changed out the buckle thanks to this video. The scotch tape trick really works! Best belt I’ve owned since the 1970’s!

Hello, I don't own any of your products, but I wanted to thank you for the Chicago screw removal tip. I have a leather strop for shaving and I want to clean the linen side, but I've been driving myself insane trying to get the Chicago screws off. I'll consider your products in the future, thanks!

Star tool used by me was a T10 X 50mm. It worked for me on the same model belt.Very easy with the tape. I left the tape on as I slipped on the new belt loop. Then re-tightened without removing the female half.

Which size screws are needed for the “gunner” 1.5” belts, 1/4” or 3/8”?
@HanksBelts
9 ай бұрын
You would want the 3/8" for the gunner

Well I appreciate the quick response, but your description under each of the sizes is vague and frankly misleading in regard to the CCW/gun belts/gunner, etc. I just placed an order about three hours ago for the quarter inch size because that’s what I figured would work based on the information provided. Very frustrating.

@JohnnyTaxonomy sorry you had trouble with this. Under each belt is a tab that says Specs. The screw length is listed there. Let me know your order number and I'll see if I can catch it or email support@hanksbelts.com and they will help you out.
Ok tried the tip with tape on smooth side, of the Chicago Screw. Did not work! Now, what other options? To be fair, it is not a hank belt. It came from Crossbreed Holster. Nonetheless, it is constructed with Chicago Screws Please help!

Hey David. I am not sure on other brands. They may LocTite them from the factory which we do not do because of this. Maybe contact them directly and see if they have any suggestions. Thanks for checking!

I too had a VERY difficult time removing the bolt. Scroll down to Ralph Garza's post and my reply there to find what measures I took that worked.
Think I got a belt that had been loctited or something, I tried the tape trick and it didn't work. Nervous about using pliers or something and making a huge scratch.

So rare that tape doesn't do the trick. Make sure to place it across the width of the belt and press it down firmly on the head. Duct tape works the best. If you still have issues email support@hanksbelts.com and they will help you out further. Thanks!

I don't know if you are still looking for a solution but I found one. I too was having the same problem and had tried all the methods listed above and more including using a hammer-drill. I super glued an aluminum block 0.25x1x1 inch to the top of the screw Aluminum was just what I had handy. I also had to roughen up the gluing surface of the aluminum with a file to get a better adhesion... for the second try. Let it dry for an hour. I then had a surface that I could hold onto while I used a screwdriver to loosen the other side. It was still ridiculously tight. I then removed the super glue by submerging the bolt and Al block in acetone/fingernail polish remover for a couple hours. The other bolt on the buckle came off with no problem so I didn't have locktite or any other chemical adhesive. Good luck.

Weaver leather sells Chicago screw pliers they work great
Use a coarse file on the side without the screwhead to get a good grip in order to get them very tight.
