I went from 4 birds to over 20 in months. Great homestead animals for someone with not a lot of space. Quail are more cost effective- but they’re not the best at raising their chicks, so pigeons are better for a self reliant situation

New subscriber here from northern Minnesota. Was looking at videos to build a quail cage/pen and stumbled on your videos. Looking forward to eventually viewing all your videos. What an awesome Christian family! Love Route 66 history and had to have been past your place a couple years ago as I was through Arizona on the I-40/Rte 66 corridor. God bless. Tom

My grandpa raised them for food, but I was young grossed out. Lol. Now looking for different meat sources. I can see pigeons being a good option for folks living in the city. How are the eggs and how do they taste?

Alan, great video(s). I love the simplicity and natural flow of the dialogue. My question is, do you harvest the pigeons for protein or are they strictly pets?

Are they all from the same pair? The color combination is just awesone. But I suggest you bring in new blood in the flock.

Thanks so much for sharing all this. I found a couple feral pigeons and it has been real interesting engaging with them and keeping them alive. I see God’s miraculous work in them all the time. Do you use their dropping for fertilizer? Haven’t done any research on it. Also, do hawks or birds of prey ever eat them when they fly around? “Joy to the world, the Christ has come…” I love that song man. Thanks for the reminder

I had one pigeon and in a month I saw two hawks and an owl when I never saw them before in my particular lot. They were all two feet from me because they’d swoop under my awning to chase the pigeon.

Reading through the comments, he said he didn't care for the taste. They are a red, gamey meat so you have to like that sort of thing from what I hear. We do so we just bought some to raise ourselves. Hope you don't mind that I answered instead of the channel.

It looks like your raising your pigeons for meat. If so do you give them any medications? If they are not leaving the coop i would think you would not need to give any medications.

Pigeons like 2, when they lay there will be 2 eggs! If you remove one of them the will lay another so there will be two again. If they have only one hachling they will lay another egg so they can have 2. You can fill an incubator by removing one egg every day. If you remove both eggs they will pannic and find a new location to build their nest.
