Q: what do you think of blackthorn? I have a lovely shillelagh that seems hard as iron.
Locus is another hard wood. We used to cut them for fence posts back in the 60's, and an axe literally wouldn't cut it. Ironwood was another rock-hard tree too.

Do your canes use standard tips that can be bought commercially, or do you have them in stock?

Is there a significant difference in weight between the 'hickory with heart' and the 'pure hickory', or is the difference minimal?

Hi there! Pure Hickory is just a little bit heavier than the Hickory with Heartwood.
I have one cane I got first which is white oak, then years later, I tried to get its complement in heartwood hickory. I called up the original order for the oak cane and used that same measurement. I was dismayed to see that this new cane was a couple or three inches SHORTER than my original cane. Since you can't add length, I didn't try to ask for some kind of repair, as I might if it were overlong. So I have a lovely hickory heart cane with a striking edge and grips, but it's too short to use comfortably. Can you do or have you done a video explaining how to determine the length, since going by the previous order's length was such a disaster? If that length wasn't correct, how am I supposed to measure more accurately? This has been very frustrating over the years.
