Real simple, no money. Same thing happened in 1996 when DTM became ITCC

As always, Mercedes is to blame. When they left after 2018, a ripple-effect started to carve its way through German automobile higher-ups, leading them to believe that Formula E is the future. The reality is that Formula E is an even larger sinkhole for money than DTM was, and that fans are actually okay with GT3 Machinery. It's still better than no DTM at all. And it's definitely better than a works effort by Mercedes Benz destroying another racing category by constant cost-oneupping like they did with Group C, The first iteration of GT1, The first iteration on Class One in 1996 and finally, the second iteration of Class One in 2018. Moral of the story: Never let Mercedes play with you!

Great comment Johannes. I don't know enough about it to know how right you are but I have seen the results of manufacturers leaving. In other series BOP has its problems, but if you just leave it up to manufacturers to throw increasingly large amounts of money at a series that becomes a recipe for disaster as well.

You're a little bit off. DTM dates from the 1970's when it was run to Group 2. It went to Group 5 in the late 1970's. Then after 1982 it went to Group A.

The series from 1972 to 1985, which was the successor of the DTM was the DRM (Deutsche Rennsportmeisterschaft). After 1982 they introduced Group C as the top division, not Group A. The DRM was a seperate series. In it's last season in 1985, the DRM cooperated with the Interserie in almost all races. The ONS created seperately the DTM with a new, cheaper ruleset. The DRM's predecessor was the DARM (Deutsche Automobil-Rennsport-Meisterschaft) which ran from 1966 to 1971.

We all really know who is to blame. The CONES... DTM killed so many cones. If they didn't stand at the edge of track limits... but they're non-Chantal , care free attitude. Boom Merc Bumper rad in your cone.

obviously not. had 1 good year because it was so much more advanced, lost after that, hard. not even close to being the best of all time lmao.

DTM should get back to its old Style with "normal" Cars and not rebuild like a Rocket...less is sometimes more !
