As Thomas Sowell says, teachers are detached from the working world. They live sheltered lives in their safe spaces. I was a teacher for 17 years. I met alot of people with warped know it all mindsets, who (at college / university level) often stray off the subject they're teaching, instead injecting their opinions and politics into the minds of their students.

I love his question- " where does this right come from?" if you ask a leftist where all those rights of free food, free housing, free education etc. etc. come from, they cannot give an answer based in any material fact, but can only fall back on the premise that it is a natural right of man. This then elevates man above all other things and begs the question of why man is so special in the universe, which logically leads down the path of us being created for a special purpose. Unfortunately you cannot claim special rights and privileges without acknowledging a power which endows you with those rights.

There are basic things about human behavior that are really not all that complicated to put your finger on in my opinion. That's not to say that what evolves out of that simple, basic behavior or propensity is not complex, because it can be. I am 61 yrs old now. I've been fortunate to live a very, very broad life, and I can tell you that the issue in academia (for most) is the simple fact that just like a schoolyard child, they want to be smarter than everyone else, and they want the world to know it. The ridiculous robes and tassels at a graduation ceremony that the faculty wear are a testament to that. I know "common" business people that could run the country better than Biden and his bunch...and better than some Republicans too.

If you check the top 10 Economics textbooks at the College Level you'll find a recurring pattern. They are almost exclusively, by a wide margin, either directly based on the writings of Karl Marx. Or they are inspired by the writings of some other author who admitted openly to having been heavily influenced, even inspired by the writings of Karl Marx. With the recurring theme of extensive Government Intervention being required to address the excesses in the Market that are physically impossible without extensive Government Intervention.

Your comment at the end gave me something to chew on. I agree that we should be taught how to think rather than what to think. "Learning how to learn". But I was taught to look at opposing viewpoints in school, I was taught about logical fallacies in speech class. I was taught the difference between facts and opinions. I'm guessing most American students did too. I could be wrong, but I'm just musing. I'm just wondering if the problem is less to do with us not knowing how to think for ourselves, we're just afraid to do it. It's an issue with peer pressure and fear of authority that makes us unable to think for ourselves, regardless of how you're educated.

Wealthy countries should supply health care for their people. it makes economical sence to have a healthy population and due to that a happier nation. Some of the poorest nation's on the planet have the happiest people due to healthy food and strong community spirit. Wealthy nations can afford health care for all, EG: Australia

It's true that only the top 1% of academics "work" in academia, that only the best of the best academics work in national laboratories doing research. They ARE good at what they do, and some of them make real contributions to their field. Now, that said, Dr. Sowell is correct about the arrogance that infects these people, that so easily extend their excellence in a narrow field to excellence in all things and above all people. Power corrupts. I've rarely seen an academic that was able to deal with the "real world". I did know a Physics Professor that was also a general contractor who built houses, but he was at a state college and hardly the cream of the crop. However, he suffered (we suffered) from his arrogance and superiority complex.

Economic liberalism is an ideology that is an integral part of conservative social thought about minimal government intervention in the economy of a nation and about complete freedom for individuals in the economy. In history, countries had the highest rates of GDP growth and living standards in those times when the state intervened in the economy, supported domestic producers, subsidized them and provided them with preferential loans. Examples, Russia (period 1929-1955), China, South Korea. Data for countries around the world whose economies grew at double-digit (almost double-digit) rates for more than 20 years in the 20th century are given below: 1. 13.8% - Russia - average annual growth for 22 years (1929-1955). 2. 11.5% - Taiwan - average annual growth for 27 years (1947-1973). 3. 10.4% - China - average annual growth for 25 years (1983-2007). 4. 10.2% - South Korea - average annual growth for 23 years (1966-1988). 5. 9.7% - Japan - average annual growth for 23 years (1948-1970). 6. 9.2% - Singapore - average annual growth for 24 years (1966-1989). Thus, in the twentieth century, the world's largest national economic growth for more than 20 years was achieved in Russia in 1929-1955 (minus four war years). During this period, real wages grew 4 times, citizens’ deposits in savings banks grew 5 times, and the economy grew 14 times. And: - First place in the world in terms of the share of mechanical engineering in the total volume of industrial production. - Complete technical and economic independence of the state has been ensured. - First place in the world in terms of agricultural mechanization. - First place in Europe and second in the world in terms of absolute industry size. - First place in Europe and second in the world in terms of labor productivity in industry. - The latest industries and advanced technologies: nuclear, space, rocketry, aircraft manufacturing, instrument making, radio engineering, electronics, electrical engineering and others. And sanctions did not prevent such economic growth in Russia!!!

I actually agree with Sowell’s statement that people are taught what to think instead of how to think. That makes perfect sense to me. So how does one explain the lack of intellect and wisdom among those who say, I’m a staunch conservative Republican ? The MAGA movement has nothing to do with Conservative ideology or principles, yet has been sharply aligned with it & only a few have stepped forward to denounce it as pretentious at best, which I agree. My question is, why are there not more Conservatives calling out what apparently appears to be a Coup of the Republican Party by radicals with a hate-filled agenda based on nothing more than a visceral dislike of certain factions of the public? I’d welcome any thought provoking views. Please be respectful with your comments.

Many of the so-called intellectuals are an envious bunch because they can't get past the fact that people who create and innovate make more money and are met with more acclaim than they are, even though all these successful people are clearly inferior to them in so many ways. It's an injustice in their eyes that can only be corrected by a bureaucracy that will allow them to play the role they were born to play, master of the universe. The Loony Toons episode where Wiley Coyote shows up at Bugs Bunny's place, introduces himself as a genius, and tells Bugs he should just give up now illustrates the mindset of the academic elites better than just about any book. As for obama calling health care a right, he does that because in his mind rights come from government, not God, so anything he and the rest of his brain-trust deem a right becomes a right by fiat. It's why we are expected to play dress-up with mentally disturbed people. It's not enough to simply let them be, they have a right to impose their delusion on the rest of us because how they feel is more important than reality, which is malleable in the minds of the intellectuals anyway. As Brad Pitt puts it in the movie Twelve Monkees: "There is no right or wrong, there's only popular opinion." It's like they take the work of Einstein and twist it into such a crazy pretzel that up truly does become down. It's all a matter of personal perspective. So long as you play within the rules the elite set up of course. Stray beyond that and you become the one who is disturbed. And it is all done in the name of progress because as Dr. Sowell points out, that is the lie that has been pimped since the enlightenment. All forward motion is progress just like change for the sake of change is good simply by virtue of the fact it's not what came before. “The modern age is built on the Myth of Progress…Believers in the Myth of Progress hold that progress is better than the past, and the future will inevitably be better than the present. This myth is a powerful tool in the hands of would-be totalitarians. It provides a transcendent source of legitimacy for their actions and frames opposition as backward and ignorant…Thus does the Myth of Progress become a justification for exercising dictatorial power” ― Rob Dreher: Live Not by Lies: A Manual for Christian Dissidents

ignorant uneducated people don't make government policies, or maybe they do. Or maybe what you call ignorant uneducated people are the ones you call when you need your plumbing, electrical, or car repaired. Trying to survive connects one to reality.

Free markets, no matter what else the requirements are, also needed to annihilate indeginous people then steal their land as well as evslave people from other lands. Slave plantations and slave farms were capitalist money-making enterprises. Anyone that worked for AT&T at the corporate or blue collar level would have intimate knowledge of its strengths and weaknesses. We're not contemplating God or heaven here. Everybody has had personal experiences of life. Sometimes two people experience the same situation in different ways. James Baldwin and Thomas Sowell both grew up in Harlem New York. The time frame of their lives there overlapped each other's. Yet they described what life was like in Harlem in ways that were the opposite of each other. Thomas Sowell, evidently, enjoyed his time at AT&T. A high salary would soften almost any insult or blow. Thomas Sowell can only speak for himself. Not for you, not for me.

FOR THE TRULY IGNORANT READ AND BE EDUCATED: The word "woke" is broadly used to describe a state of being "aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues especially of racial and social injustice" according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary. While it originated from African American Vernacular English (AAVE) in the early part of the 20th century, the term has become a common part of American slang. Its usage has evolved and grown so much that conservatives now use it as a pejorative to refer to progressives or left-leaning liberals. The phrase "stay woke" has long been used in Black communities to indicate staying alert to others' deception Radio host Lana Quest wrote on Twitter that the first documented usage of the term "stay woke" was by Black folk singer Lead Belly when he was talking about his 1938 song "Scottsboro Boys." According to Quest, the song referred to "nine Black teens falsely accused of raping two white women in 1931, [who] were sentenced to death. NAACP forced repeated retrials. They were finally freed but never recovered." White Gay Libs poured the Kool Aid (Highjacked the term) and y'all are drinking it! Bottoms up!

Have you ever considered that people with a greater capacity to think perhaps become more liberal? Certainly in my 73 years I believe I have become wiser, and I have moved from Conservative to Liberal an the political spectrum. And forget about "woke"! That's just a minor (but important) distraction that's been blown up by the press.
