I think the main reason that Louis' output speaks to music heads so much is because it's basically one big in-joke, played with exceptional talent. I'm a huge believer that good music is basically comedy, and Louis' work is impeccable hilarity. Same with Thundercat, FlyLo, and Collier to some extent. Great music is funny as fuck.

God I remember being absolutely OBSESSED with Louis's stuff, his work is like a singularity of a gravitational force because he has his own musical language paired with absolutely ferocious passion. His harmonic content is just so rich and fun and crazy but I just think there is TONS of emotional range in his work too... I think Window Shop might be one of the greatest songs of all time - it mixes 90's anime synths with breakneck drumming and heart melting vocals from Genevieve - possibly one of the most satisfying pieces of music ever. Thanks for this guys, this was amazing.

...I have always listened to every musical genre appreciating the quality, imagination and talent, as well as the commitment of each artist, and in these years in which I have the impression that creativity has flattened, I find that Louis Cole brings something back in mind to my ears, perhaps not entirely new, but he certainly manages to give new life to something that was dying, I thank him because for me music is something indispensable, and I wish him the success he deserves, and he deserves it above all because his art is the fruit of his passion and not of the search for fame and success

28:42-29:20 this is the most succinct description of Louis' vibe I've heard yet. I can completely relate. I grew up in the Lutheran church as a son of two pastors, with my mom doubling on organ and flute most Sundays. Around age 14 I started to get into jazz and then Alt rock (Radiohead and Rage) and no genre really blended the beautiful chorale orchestrations with the driving and harmonically adventurous vibe that progressive artists were putting down at the time. Louis Cole is almost my 'church music' these days, and his art helps me trace a cohesive narrative of my musical journey through life. That's why I truly love and appreciate him and his vision. I hope I get to jam with him someday. Thank you guys for this interview!

Loved this one so much! I first heard of Louis Cole via London Elektricity, via the track "Night", which he dropped first on an episode of the Hospital Records Podcast (#412). Then I found the track Thinking and the rest of that amazing Live Sesh EP, then Knower via Die Right Now. Some of my absolute favourite music. I hope you guys have Louis back soon!

Only wish this was longer! For a great example of his 2 mic setup Louis talks about at the end. Check out how he mic’d his kit on Knower’s overtime. Killer drum sounds and makes me want to continue exploring during micing techniques

I'm a lifelong musician and this is my new favorite show. I subscribed immediately. I'm headed down the Cole rabbit hole for sure now. Everything was educational, entertaining and motivational. I love synthesis and programming and am trying to learn more about recording so this episode was just perfect. Catch you next week!
