Who The F**k Are These Clowns?!

Ойын-сауық

It's time. Today I am going to introduce you to the genius that is Clown Core. I absolutely adore these clowns. They remind me of a lot of my favourite musician in the world, Louis Cole, however they are only rumours that he is he part of this duo. Don't be alarmed, give it a chance and allow yourself to be swept away by the majesty of these ancient master of transcendent music.

Mr Bungle or Primus is not at all in the same genre. Just listen to the music. Clowncore is very jazz when they chill out, neither Bungle or Primus have any real jazz in them. Both are essentially rock bands with experimental side. Clowncore is a half drum and bass, half Death Metal parody. But with a spine of Jazz through it all.

I completely disagree. In the place where they're playing, there is nothing weird at all about shit. In fact, shit is one of the two most normal things to be there. Music, though, music is abnormal in that setting - unless it sounds like a percussionist's wind chimes, or a beginner on the tuba. And these guys don't.

@@Baribrotzer There is nothing weird about shit. Shit is about as normal as it gets, like breathing, eating, sleeping, drinking water. People who say they don’t give a shit are announcing an intention to die. Let’s hope they change their mind before it’s too late. But I digress. I think it’s fine to call something interesting which has triggered your enthusiasm “weird shit”. But “weird as shit” is just a bad simile. You might as well say something is “weird as the sun rising in the east every morning” or anything else that happens with regularity. We either need a new comparison, or we need to augment the simile. If you don’t mind, I’ll take a whack at it. “Something something weird as shit AFTER I ate and digested a beet, corn, and cyanobacteria casserole.” (I’ve never actually done this-eat a casserole of beets, corn, and cyanobacteria-but I’ll bet money that the resulting shit is weird, especially if you eat the entire casserole.)

Clown Core is an amazing gem. It is 100% Louis Cole, his sister has a blog and she spilled the beans. Here is the copy paste: 12.05.2008 Louis Is A Senior! My dear, sweet, tall brother, Louis turned 22 yesterday. And to celebrate, USC's Thornton School of Music held their jazz program's Honors Combo recital. Unfortunately, because I work all the time, I couldn't be there (please don't judge me). But, Good Ol' Reliable Father brought his mp3 recorder, and sent me a tune. It's entitled "When Was the Last Time." Louis wrote the music and lyrics, and played drums. It features Cassie Peterson on Vocals, Adam Bravo on piano, Hans Bernhard on bass, and Sam Gendel and Doug Mosher on horns. I was really impressed-- It's a great tune. It is certainly quite a contrast to Clown Core, which, if you don't already know, is also a Louis creation. I love my brother's musical schizophrenia.

Aha Mr Hawkins. Here you are appreciating the genius of ClownCore. I'm approaching 70 years old, been a muso all my life, and up to seven years ago was very stale of anything purporting to me music. Then I stumbled across Moonchild, and thus Knower. They're part of the same geographical stable of young guys showing the world that they are brilliant. I saw Knower in Manchester two years ago, and they were brilliant. Then the following year watched Louis Cole do a 90 minute show on his own. Absolutely staggeringly brilliant. And now, just when you think they cannot do anything more wild.....ClownCore comes along and wow, I'm a fan of all these young guys doing what they do. I'm too old to be active on this front, but my goodness me, what a dusting off of my cobwebs there has been in the last few years. Love the channel. You have a great voice man.

I'm glad you like these guys, I found them a couple of years ago. They're awesome! A fair amount of jazz, some grindcore and DNB plus the sound is a little bit lofi. Yet how those components are put together is what makes it unique. And it's the smoothness too, despite the seemingly disparate elements. I don't feel that riffs in this kind of music are very important. It's more about the progressions and how they are decorated - and punctuated.

Always thought the Darkness were good fun to listen to but serious respect for covering a band as mental as Clown Core. Would be easy to just go for popular stuff. Want to see you cover stuff from all sorts of genres now as your take on stuff is interesting! :) P.S. CHECK OUT THE ARMED

This music reminds me of being at school in music class before I could play guitar. They'd split us into groups and ask us to compose some music and we could pick some instruments from the cupboard. None of us could play anything so we'd just bang a violin, strum a drumkit and blow into a keyboard and come up with something that sounds similar to this. Very nostalgic listening to this. We were innovators 40 years ahead of our time.

CLOWNCORE!!! The van comes by way of Toyota, a Previa, depending on the model, it may be supercharged. The engine is mounted between the axles, thus giving us a supercharged, mid-engined, all-wheel drive, 6 person, performance vechicle...this was brilliant! Thanks for bringing to the masses!!

It would take a full essay to really describe what they do and even reading the best description wouldn't set you up for experiencing them for the first time. When I saw "hell" for the first time I thought it was absolutely brilliant but I also thought it was kind of a joke. I thought you can't pull something like this off more than once. It made me so happy to discover that yes! They can pull something like that off more than once and they did. Thanks Justin 🤘

When I first saw these guys come up in my suggestions feed, I tried to ignore it. It kept coming up in my feed and finally I was like, “Ok, if I watch this will it finally go away?” Then I knew I was going to hate it. I just knew I was going to hate it. 30 seconds in I was completely in love with this band. Just stunningly original and great. Big fan now.

Another drummer with skills to do this is Deantoni Parks. Check out his solo stuff, old stuff with Kudu, scoring work with Nicci … and his supergroup of sorts, Bosnian Rainbows. They’d be great for an episode. Would love to see more stuff on Louis, Nate or Vulfpack.
