Joe Lonsdale is a co-founder of the data analytics firm Palantir; OpenGov, which provides cloud software services for governments; and the University of Austin, which seeks to reform higher education. He's the managing partner of 8VC, a tech and life sciences venture capital fund, and is chairman of the board of the Cicero Institute, a nonprofit working to "restore liberty, accountability, and innovation in American governance."
Reason's Nick Gillespie asked Lonsdale why he relocated to Texas from California, how to curb government overreach while providing essential services, his goals for his podcast American Optimist, and his 2020 article, "Libertarianism is Dysfunctional, but Liberty is Great."

Really enjoyed this Lonsdale interview. He doesn't seem as nervous as he usually does -- probably bc it's Gillespie interviewing him. Dude is always preternaturally calm. Like a human Ambien
It's great to hear voices like this. Sane steady smart.
“Friends left for Switzerland or Singapore” this makes sense, they are the two countries which are still sane.
@51:36 pooping street, as the homeless educator since 2010. The reason homeless poop in streets is because there are no public or business restrooms available to them. In NYC many business, like some Starbucks have no restrooms for their customers.

Kinda missing the point.
Good interview. I get what he said about libertarians. Most are good at discussing their principles and even the kind of society they would like to live in, but most don't actually effectuate much change in order to bring about a more libertarian society (myself included).
I live in the fecal state (Cali). Lot’s of people fleeing. Not me. I live in a nice area.
Holy timestamps batman! Glad I see them on your long form podcast. Super helpful
Congress should spend a year getting rid of laws
Smart guy. He gives hope that all is not lost.
Great guys!!
49:48 “My experience with libertarians [...] is it was kind of like you sit on the couch, and you yell at the TV and tell the government to stop doing things, and you maybe put some money to try to stop the government from doing things, and then the government ends up eventually doing it anyway, and it ends up being even more dysfunctional, and it keeps growing, and you're kind of angry.”
much love all
Great conversation 👍
Love the interview!
Palantir a generational company.
lonsdale is the man
But...Texas is not as free as Texans like to pretend.
Palantir is the definition of a government backed company. Read Whitney Webb.

People who are worried about Palantir aren't worried enough about what the govt does *without* Palantir: unsiloed databases, lack of accountability for data access, and so on.
Austin is a sanctuary city and they got rid of a lot of their police officers. It’s turned into a crime ridden mess.
Can you say tax abatement?
Should have asked him whether Palantir offerring more than 100 jobs to (woke) jews only, was ethical or not...
Adderal: It gets shit done.
Nick Gillespie bias is very evident @24:08 he attributed his senior moment to Trump and not Biden? Is he that dense?

Your bias is showing when you look for problems that dont exist, because Nick has always disliked both.
It sucks to get a computer when you have a problem with something. This guy is spewing hot air
