I remember first seeing it in a British Railways Stories episode before learning about it for myself. I always have this headcanon of Spencer's motives to try and get Hiro scrapped in Hero of the Rails because of this and he probably wanted to erase any bad memories of what happened in WWII despite that he and Hiro were built in the same decade, but still.

But Hiro was a Japanese locomotive, not that Spencer cares, to him, the enemy killed his brother and his cousin, in his mind, scrapping Hiro would be justice

@@marsandcobblesproductions3501 ... I know Hero of the Rails was a decent first outing for CGI Thomas (even with the dumb Miller era stuff to come after it...), but that sounds like untapped potential for a classic/RWS esque adaption if I've ever thought of a remake.

I was just going to mention that
As a child I had a book which taught me about Sir Ralph Wedgewood and its tragic fate. The A4 has always been my favourite locomotive class, so I was horrified to see one in such a mangled and damaged state.

The only A4 locomotive who didn’t survive the bliss
Spencer’s family sure had crazy lives!
I’m really enjoying these wacky AI images with the odd number of driving wheels! Also, your voice and flair for narrating is getting better and better! It certainly has a sense of class and drama that improves the video heavily.

I don't think that was a train. I believe it was a locomotive, or engine.
I always love these sorts of channels, it gives a history lesson and a railway lesson, you keep on doing a great job my guy
The first time I heard about this incident was in episode 10 of British railway stories one of the best episodes in my opinion
Thanks to Simon A.C. Martin and his series, I know the full info on Gadwall’s (Sir Ralph Wedgewood) fate
What an amazing video!! Way to go!

I haven’t seen the channel yet, but if you haven’t done Grand Parade, you should, very interesting story there, a real life incident that will seem horrifying in Thomas the tank engine (Grand Parade the A1 crushed under another engine and after being scrapped, a new A1 with the same name and number took its place)
@andrewtaylor5984

Grand Parade was never an A1. It was one of the first batch built new as an A3.

Grand Parade crashed into the rear of a train from Dundee, consisting of seven coaches and a fish van. The van was completely demolished whilst the next two coaches were wrecked. I am not sure to what extent the other five were damaged. The engine of the Dundee train D29 Dandie Dinmont would only have suffered slight damage, if that. Dandie Dinmont was still running after Nationalisation. The date of this accident was 10 December 1937.

Hey I was wondering if I can use your profile and thumbnail for a video I’m doing a history video on the Waverley and i was wondering if it’s ok if I use your profile and thumbnail?
GWR hall 4911 Bowden Hall was destroyed around the same time.
As said in the video, the tender from No. 4469 was salvaged, and put behind A2/1 No. 507 ‘Highland Chieftain’. The engine shown in the picture was sister engine No. 509 ‘Waverley’. Just for reference, no nitpicking meant haha.

Imagine that. A locomotive with a wheelbase as tall as me (6ft) with a 3 chime
Spencer: Oh My God!!!!! Oh Shit!!!!
Is the engine's whistle still kicking about, if so, give it to beamish, they are making a new buuld Y8 and to have that on it would be great
Spencer, no! SPENCER, NO!
wow, just wow. didn't even know this could happen to an engine, rip sir ralph wedgewood the first
The whistle was removed from the Y8 in 1946.
Seen this in a book was one very damaged engine when it was destroyed
So horrific yet so interesting
Rest in peace gadwall😔😔😔😔😔
They did my boy sir ralph wedgewood dirty #freemyboy
Wow, such a devastating story. I can't believe World War Two led to that engine's destruction. 🙁
No train was bombed at that time and place. The locomotives, engine, prime mover, loco, was bombed. A train is a group of two or more vehicles, connected together, or the trailing portion of a long garment. 4-Cor EMU is a unit, train and a train of 4 coaches, with two power driving motor coaches, each with one motor bogie, with 2 axle mounted nose suspended 225 hp series-wound traction motors. 1 coach is not a train. It’s a coach. Less well-educated people call it a railway carriage.

Unfortunately, although the loco could have been repaired, the engineering staff at Doncaster had other priorities in the War. Apparently, there were no suitable spare parts available. (There were some parts exclusive to the A4 Pacifics.) It is significant that only eight locos were bombed and not repaired in the Second World War. The LNER lost an A4 and a B16 at York, a J17 in London, and an M&GN engine in Norwich. The GW lost Hall 4911 at Plymouth, and a pannier tank at Castle Cary. The Southern lost a T14 at Nine Elms, and the LMSR lost a Caledonian 4-4-0 at Greenock. In 1946, the LNER renumbered all its locos. The "new" 4469 was a J35, and it was one of the six members of the class withdrawn before Nationalisation. 4469 was therefore an ill-fated number on the LNER.
Poor engine just got bombed by the Nazis Rust in Pieces Gabwall or Sir Ralph Wedgwood 😔😔
