Wilkins was, and still is, my favorite player of all time. It's really sad how the Hawks and the NBA did him wrong. The most exciting and underrated player I can remember, and that's a long list! He didn't even get nominated for the "50 best players" list which was sooo wrong. Right after that list came out Larry Bird even said Nique should be in the top 5 :/

It was mainly the fact that coach Lenny Wilkins hated that Nique was a "me first" type of scorer instead of a team guy, and that Nique wanted a lucrative contract. Nique wanted a 3 yr - 21 million deal ( LOL . . that's a mid-level contract these days ). The Hawks wasn't willing to commit to a 3 year deal, seeing that Nique was 34 at the time. But to trade for that BITCH Danny Manning PLUS give the Clippers a 1994 1st Round pick, without a guarantee that Manning would re-sign, is about as an idiotic of a move that has been ever done in the NBA. Manning would bypass the Hawks ( turning down 5 yrs and 35 million ) and sign a 1-year deal with Phoenix. Then karma struck that little BITCH and he tore his ACL in the middle of the season. Phoenix still signed him to a 6 yr - 40 million deal the next season, but Manning never returned to his All-Star form. From a Hawks perspective, Manning not signing with the Hawks DID open up enough cap room to sign Dikembe Mutombo in the summer of 1996, so that slightly eased the pain of losing Nique and having that BITCH Manning bail on us. But most Hawks fans have never forgiven ownership for trading away Nique in the one season in which the East was wide open.

Dom2k Dominique Wilkins at 95-96 season signed with the Euroleague team Panathinaikos .He may was a corpse of himself but it was enough (with the help of some crazy blocks by Stojan Vrancovic) to bring to our team our first Euroleague title (Panathinaikos have 6 now) .He was the cornerstone of this team .Then he hooked up with a waitress ,his wife found out ,and he took him back to Usa .Dominique broke his contract for that reason just few days before the last match of the A1 (Greek national champion) finals ,which resulted losing with a blowout by our arch rivals Olympiakos .

He played the best ball of his career with Denver. But George Karl was always funny about what he wanted/expected from his stars. Similar in Mil, too. Always preached D, wanted offensive stars, then soured on em' when they "disappointed" him. Ditto at Mil with Big Dog, Allen. A.I seemed to mesh well with Carmelo, at least.

One (HUGE) reason the Sonics traded Gary Payton to Milwaukee was because he wasn't shy about voicing his displeasure with the new owner, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz buying the team from longtime owner Barry Ackerley. "He don't know basketball" Payton kept repeating. He was right, but Schultz wanted no part of that. To this day many of us heap a lot of the blame for the Sonics leaving Seattle on Schultz when he sold the team to Clay Bennett and his OKC based ownership group, claiming he believed that Bennett had every intention to keep the Sonics in Seattle. Maybe Gary's Spidey sense was tingling.

It's a sad scence to see those great players diminished in skills and prowess.
