Why The Very Strange Ferris Bueller's Day Off Spin-Off Failed

Ойын-сауық

Ferris Bueller's Day Off is without a doubt one of the best comedies of all time. From renowned director John Hughes, Ferries Bueller's Day Off is a movie that spans generations of fans. Though it was a major surprise when it was announced the Ferris Bueller was getting a TV Pilot adapted from the movie. To no one's surprise, the Ferris Bueller TV show was so bad it was cancelled almost immediately.

OK I think some of what your commenters are saying helps to establish my point if the Ferris of the TV show had a movie based on his life all of his fourth wall, breaking powers couldn’t exist think of the movie Ferris, like a superhero version of the TV Ferris, and you might get my point that being said all of the moments of fourth wall breaking simply could not exist that being said one(1) way to write around this problem would have been to trick the audience into thinking tv Ferris is talking to us, but then cut to a response shot from his parents and sister, hearing him bitching about the movie, ruining his life, and then the movie/TV show style format switches to a normal single camera set up with an omniscient view to allow us to see tv Ferris’s interactions in his world also from what you said, it seems to be Ferris before he met Sloan, and such which means the ferris in the movie is doing things our TV Ferris hasn’t done yet, hmmm… anyway, I hate to make these comments because I hate to feed you the energy to allow you to be successful when you’re the Pawnee resident hating asshole with your parks and recreation theory!!!! Dan aka one(1) very angry and very loyal Pawnee resident wannabe!!!!

One of the things that worked about Zack Morris on Saved by the Bell (while it did) was that Zach's schemes and hijinks didn't work out, until he learned his lesson and had to redeem himself somehow.

They really missed the point of the original characters. Cameron lacked his tragic film back story, Ferris lacked charm, and Sloane was a blonde instead of a brunette. "Parker Lewis Can't Lose" was a similar show which aired around the same time, and they made fun of Ferris's cancellation.

I can see why Ferris Bueller didn't work for television. It reminded me of when Dirty Dancing was turned into a TV series. What's the point of turning Dirty Dancing into a TV series if there isn't much to expand on other than having Johnny have a new student each week?

It lasted one season and premiered a year after the movie came out. I only knew about it because WatchMojo featured it in their video about signs a TV show isn't going to be good. On the third entry of that list which was the show is based on a movie, specifically a very popular one. They had the gall to feature Time of My Life as the show’s theme song.

As an 80s kid who grew up in Switzerland, I actually remember comparing the Ferris Bueller and Parker Lewis TV shows among friends, and I think we all preferred the latter. Though, I doubt neither of us had watched the Matthew Broderick movie by then. So, even to us, Parker Lewis was just the better show. For the longest time, in my head the original tagline for Parker Lewis was just the English translation of the German tagline we got: Parker Lewis, der Coole von der Schule - Parker Lewis, the Cool One from School. Thanks to which I'm always weirded out when I see the real tagline of, “Parker Lewis Can't Lose.”

It will never cease to amaze me that Ferris Bueller the TV show was released the same year as Parker Lewis Can't Lose only for Parker Lewis to do it better causing Ferris Bueller to get axed mid season and Parker Lewis drop the Can't Lose (literally) along with the Ferris Bueller formula a couple of seasons later to attempt to be more like 90210 and get ignominiously dropped for the effort.

Weirdly I know of both shows but haven't watched either - your video is the most I have seen of either😂 I think your last point is probably a big reason why it failed - certain characters are tied to the actor and you can't just swap them and their characters out for someone else. If you are doing a tv version of the movie, it needs to be like the movie or totally change what you are doing. Frasier would have bombed if he went back to Seattle and the show was based in a bar, and a few people from Cheers showed up. That is kind of what they did here - same character names but not the same characters really. Plus it isn't as easy as it seems to take a comedy movie and make it into a sitcom. Things that are fine in a 90 minute movie because annoying real fast when you see them weekly.

Some of us think the original Ferris was already a bit of a psychopath who uses people like Cameron (and Sloane. And his parents. And Jeanie. And... well, everybody) for his own personal gain. Yet he cons everybody into thinking he needs help ("Save Ferris") -- even Jeanie sticks up for him in the end -- because Matthew Broderick is so darn charming.
