I had a PSP 1000 as a kid, got it a few weeks after it came out. I loved it to death, and once my dad hacked it for me I had unlimited access to any PSP game I desired. I played it daily, and it was a lifesaver during baptisms and weddings where I would be stuck for hours just sitting at a restaurant table. My cousin spilled Coke on it at one of these weddings, and it got underneath the screen, making the image somewhat brown, but it still worked perfectly for months, until I saved up enough money to get it fixed. Soon after, my mother (thinking I needed to grow out of gaming), gave it to my cousin without telling me, and had a go at me when I insisted I wanted it back. The whole thing left a sour taste in my mouth, and I haven't owned a PSP since. I wasn't sure if I should buy a new one now, but this video convinced me I should get back into it. Thank you for the quality content.

The second half of your video is what I've been thinking about and trying to discuss with others. An android+gaming hybrid device that had all the PS1, PSP, and PS Vita games available (and games more advanced than the Vita's), possibly with a gaming phone esque setup like the ROG where you can attach and detach the controls. It would be everything the PSP and Vita were but better. And on top of all that, with the benefits of Android, you could also hook it up to a TV for media consumption. Or possibly a computer monitor, keyboard, and mouse to turn it into a basic computer for everyday use (assuming Android one day natively gets a Samsung Dex-like mode).

It’s perfect for hacking too, something I’ll be doing as soon as I get around too it. I just have a fetish for handhelds and need to get a 2000 model as I think it’s pretty much the best mode. The psp GO if I’m really lucky. Edit: Maybe it is the 3000 I want. I thought the 2000 had the best screen. Oops. I just found a really nice 3000 the other day online. Perhaps I should order it.

I played on my PSP 2000 for years, with CFW and all the goodies you can get with it. I also got an adapter and put a 128 GB MicroSD card in it giving me a lot of room. Originally it was 2x 64 GB cards, but I then move to a single 128 GB card when I got a new adapter that had a single MicroSD card slot (to Memory Stick Duo). The 128 GB was originally from my phone before I upgrade my phone with a 256 GB, leaving the 128 GB free for something else. I played SNES games on my PSP Emulator a lot and I can also confirm many games did have slowdowns so I had to turn on frame skipping (at least 1). I will say a month ago, I did buy a PS Vita on eBay. I originally wanted a Vita 1000 but they sent me a 2000 and it had issues (the left analog stick didn't work and replacing it didn't help, so I think it was the board itself). I did try various emulators and the GBA and SNES games I tried worked fine without any slowdowns. I know the Vita has a higher clock rate which makes it possible. It was good to know it worked very good on the Vita. I did however end up sending it back as they did lie in the description and with a broken left analog stick (even though they said it "worked great"), I was completely in eBay's return policy of product as not described. I did restore it to the original 3.73 I got it in before sending it back. The point is, while the PSP worked well, Vita also lets you play PSP games as well. Due to the UMD is just hella slow, I backed up my games to the memory card and they load much faster. Trying those same ones on PS Vita, I did see some games have good performance. I remember when I loaded up Jeanne d'Arc, some parts would get dropped frames, at random points on PSP, but on Vita, I think It was a smoother framerate. Not saying everybody NEEDS to go out and buy a used Vita, but it can be a good alternative if you want to play many Vita and PSP games, while also having better emulator performance. Edit: Yes, I know this video was from 2019 and things may have changed from the Vita since then, so you don't need to mention it.

Bro I’m not gonna lie, your hands are pretty big. I mean those things are some huge honkers. I thought my hands were big but when you said you get cramps on the vita I was like: “come again my guy?” Good video nonetheless. I am actually considering one of these just because I love my vita but sometimes it can feel like a luxury product (plus I still can’t give it a clear shell).

I still think the vita is the better system to own. You really stressed how uncomfortable it is, but I’ve only ever had a problem with comfort while using the analog sticks. When I’m using it for retro emulation just using the d pad and face buttons, it’s very comfortable, and it still isn’t that bad to use the analog sticks. There’s a lot of benefits to a vita over a psp. Adrenaline is a homebrew app that just straight up turns the console into a modded psp which runs everything exactly the same as a psp would, so it automatically has more functionality since it can do everything a psp can do plus it’s own stuff. And it can even do some psp stuff even better than a psp would, because of the dual analog sticks for fps games and ps1 games that would need it. Plus it’s way more powerful, so there isn’t really any issues with 16 bit emulation anymore, and there’s even an n64 emulator that came out only a couple weeks ago. It isn’t perfect, but it’s still being worked on and can already run easier to run games like mario 64 and mario kart 64 pretty much perfectly. And then of course there’s the vita library which has some excellent games.

Also if you feel holding the portable console is uncomfortable you can always get an after market grip case. I have one for my ps vita and nintendo switch and it does make a world of difference in terms of comfort when playing games for long sessions.

The PSP definitely has better feeling buttons, better dpad, and debatable a better thumbstick than the vita, but the benefits of the vita allowing you to play vita games, having a great screen, better resolution and performance for emulation including PSP games, all make the vita my go to way to play PSP games

The PSP ROCKS. I own the original 1000 and I prefer to the others. Yes the screen isn't as good but the whole design is better IMHO. I like the thicker style and the UMD drive ejection is so cool. I'm now a Vita fan and use it more but to play games like Y's and other RPGs it is still more comfortable in my big hands.

Has it been 15 years already... Damn XD I still have the PSP 1004 (with the Logic3 speaker) and PSP 2004 laying on my desk :D They're never leaving their proud spot on my there, even though they're mostly just collecting dust :S I think I'm still more impressed by the PSP compared to my current flag-ship smartphone...

As someone who struggles with neck issues whenever I would want to play a portable game for any period of time, the PSP's ability to plug into a monitor (with the appropriate cables) much like a Nintendo Switch has proven to be a real godsend for me in terms of ergonomics. It also plays just about everything I ever cared about from Sony's back catalogue with respect to the PS1 classics. It's also arguably one of the hardiest handhelds ever made in that you can run it completely independently of batteries (3000 series at least, not sure about the others) if you plug it into a wall, so you can still use it long after your last Li-Ion battery has died. I've never loved any other handheld game console as much as I love my PSP.

Don't forget the PSP can change battery which is still made by third party. This make the device's life time much longer than the other later handheld devices.
